Five.
I smiled at his offer, he looked keenly at me as if he wanted me to know he meant the words he said.
“It just doesn’t happen that way, does it, Mr. Kaid?” I asked, and he chuckled softly, lifted his glass, and clinked it against mine.
“You’re right.”
“If you want me, you should get me.” I took my glass and sipped. His eyes twinkled at me, I could tell I had caused an excitement in him with the way he stared at me.
“Properly, I mean,” I added.
“Asking you to be my wife isn’t proper enough?”
“We are here for a business offer, not for pleasure.” I countered, and he nodded, smiling while holding his glass.
“I have sent you the business proposal, and how much you’re going to make if you get it done.” He stretched out his hand to me. “I hope we become good business partners.”
I took his hand and smiled at him.
“I think my offer is good enough, you should look into it. I bet anyone would want to pay twice as much as I did.” He stated confidently.
“You may be surprised, someone may be willing to offer ten times more.” I did a slight shrug and chugged the drink from my glass, I kept them on the table and held onto my clutch.
“I think we are done here, and I need to take my leave.” I got up from my seat.
“Allow me to drive you home, I don’t feel safe letting you leave just like that.”
“I’ll look over the business proposal when I get home, and I’ll send my feedback, if I want to work with you or not.”
“You wouldn't have been here tonight, if you didn’t consider working with me, Raven.” He called my name softly. “Can I take you home?”
“I want you to be safe.”
“I've got fangs.” I showed him my fangs and he chuckled.
“I can protect myself quite well.“
“I can sense that from you, Raven, that you're a powerful wolf.” He got up from his seat, he was tall, and he was making me feel small compared to his height.
“But it doesn’t mean I can’t help.” He lowered himself a bit. “Let me give you a ride.”
“You just want to know where I live.”
He smirked, and I shook my head at him.
“When I’ve gone through your proposal, you will receive my email.” I turned and walked out of the place, his gaze was tailing me, even when I walked through the door.
My driver bowed at me, opened the door, I got in, and closed the door. One of Kaid’s guards watched me, went back to report to his boss.
“Take me home,”
“Yes, ma’am.”
I got home and undressed, walked into the bathroom, filled the bathtub to the brim, and slid in with my glass of wine. I exhaled, it was past my kids' bedtime, and I hadn't talked with them. After the last conversation I heard from them, I don’t know if I should bother calling again.
It hurt that they think that way about me, and it was all because of Ethan.
Ethan hadn’t sent the documents either.
He really wants me to take him to court for it.
I came out of the bathtub, dressed in a red robe, and sat on my desk, close to my bed, and opened my computer.
Kaid’s business proposal was in the mail, and a couple of others. I searched to see if there was anything from Alpha Stone yet, but he still hasn’t reached out.
Kaid’s business was to hack into a website, so he will be able to access it.
There was an email invite to a gala next Friday, and it was taking place in the pack.
I accepted the invite to the gala, started to work on my design, and set up a meeting with my startup team members.
I worked late, and when I was done, a message popped up on my phone.
Alpha Stone.
“Will you be my date for the Gala, Ms. Raven Winters?” He asked.
That was it?
I thought he wanted something from me, he said he had been looking for me, and he just wants me to be his date for the Gala?
The Gala was going to be an award night for Alphas, and dignitaries, an annual sponsored event, filled with different Alphas from all around the country.
I stared at his messages.
Another came from him.
“We will get the chance to talk about business when we meet for the Gala. The choice is yours.”
I huffed, and read his message a few times. I didn’t want to reply immediately, and it seemed desperate to him.
I left his message for a few minutes before responding.
“I will think about it.”
His response came instantly. “Take your time.”
I almost rolled my eyes, it wasn’t what I expected from him, but I had no intention of pushing things with him.
I wanted to know why he said he had been looking for me, which kept me curious.
What does he want from me?
The next morning, I was at the company of my booming startup Tech design and developer. I had a brief meeting with the workers.
I had put in so much work secretly for two years and some months, as a secret tech director. I worked from home, and had never been here. This was the first time I was showing up at the company where I had been a tech director.
They gave me a grand welcome to the company, I never expected it, but since the expedition went well, I had informed them, I will be coming but not frequently.
I was a bit nervous, working online was different from being there in person, but my father was once a leader, and I had to trust the guidance he gave me before he passed.
When I saw Ethan walking through the door with flowers, I halted, what was he doing here?
“I came to congratulate you, I hope I’m not too late.” He said, holding the flowers to his chest.
I dismissed the workers from the space, and we were left alone, close to my office. “What do you think you’re doing?”
“I came to see my wife,”
“I think it’s time for you to come home to the kids.”
“You are a mother, you shouldn’t be doing this.” He bit his lower lip. “This ain’t normal.” He tried to touch my shoulder.
I shrugged his hands off. “But it was normal for you to cheat on me, you even wanted me to see you with her. Ethan. All that was normal wasn’t it?” I stared at the flowers, this was the first time he had brought a flower to me since we got married.
“I’m sorry that I cheated, sorry that seeing me with the woman I love pissed you off so much.”
“Get out,” I grunted.
“Don’t ever come here again, Ethan.”
“Get out!” I screamed at him.
“You were the one who has been a snake all along, you secretly kept this away from me, what was your plan?” He poked my shoulder with his fingers. “…this? To take back your pack, and watch me fall? That must have been your plan all along, and you are pretending to be a saint, the victim. You were the one who tried to hurt me, you were just waiting for an excuse to do this!” He tossed the flowers on the ground.
I flinched.
“You were never a good wife, never a good mother to the kids, you were never anything good!” He pushed me and grabbed my face roughly. “Now, you want to divorce me? Do you know what that will cause me?”
“A divorce because I was with another woman, you want to divorce me because of that?”
I swallowed as he held me tightly, I couldn’t speak because his hand was over my jawline.
“You plan this, Raven. It was what you wanted all along!”
