To keep up the charade, I am spending time acting like the lovesick mate.

Nilo and I are meeting my brothers and their mates for family movie time. My brothers enter with their mates and I introduce Nilo as my mate and let them know I have agreed to accept his claim. Mary squeals, "I am so happy for you two." My brothers Dale and Thomas slap him on the back and tell him how lucky he is to be with a higher-ranked wolf. Mauro shakes his hand and says, " you better be good to my sister. I will kill you if you even think about hurting my baby sister." Micky shakes his hand and says sternly, "same here I don't like you to start with so don't screw up." Nilo replies, "Don't worry your sister is in good hands with me. I will treat her like the princess that I know she is." Cora gave me a wink and said, " I see you will do anything to avoid having me as your Luna." We all laugh as we know she is just joking. She is the humor that my brother needs. Cindy chimes in, "now Cora you know that's not it, she's avoiding having me and Micky as her Beta." I wink at her and laugh, "you figured me out."

Mary's mindlinks me that she is worried about me and happy at the same time. I scrunch up my face and my mind link back to "why?" She said, "because he shares Dale's viewpoint. He doesn't support Mom being Alpha." I nod that I understand. Mom and Dad enter the room and we all bow our heads immediately to show respect to them as our leaders and as our parents. Mom gives me half a smile and hugs Nilo welcoming him to the family. She mindlinks me," you hang in there and be the strong woman I raised you to be." I don't want to alert Nilo, so I just nod. Dad pats him on the back and says," this has been a long time coming." I ask Dad, " what do you mean?" He sighs and says "finally all of my pups have grown and found their mates. Now Momma and I will be free to travel the world." I nod and smile and for just a moment I see Mom frown and furrow her brow. I understand part of her concern but wonder how much more I don't know.

Well now that we've made the round of congratulations what movie would you like to watch? Everyone looks at me as if it is my turn to choose. I look at Nilo and say, "how about you choose." He smiles and Instantly says, "Must Love Dogs". How does he know that is my favorite movie? Humans don't know that some actors are werewolves. I'm not allowed to out them. Let's just say the dogs aren't the only furry characters. We sit down to watch the movie.

a couple of hours later...

Vaughn looks at me and Nilo and says so all those heading back to the Flintwood pack I'm leaving in 5 minutes. Mom says you gentlemen should stay for dinner. I give puppy dog eyes Vaughn pleading please stay. He nods and I let out the breath I was holding. Mom says dinner is in 30 minutes. I squeal in excitement and ask Mom if she needs help setting the table or anything. She said no you go spend time with your handsome mate. She mindlinked me don't worry we'll talk later. I ask everyone if they wanted to play a game while we waited for dinner to be prepared. We decided on Pictionary. We played boys against girls and Vaughn volunteered to be timekeeper as he was essentially mateless. We all wrote the names of movies on slips of paper and put them in the hat Vaughn has been wearing. We agreed no mindlinking is allowed. Vaughn suggested the girls go first. I will draw for my team. of Marissa Torme. Mary guessed it pretty quickly and then it was the guys' turn. Nilo was first up and drew hearts and dogs. Thomas guessed Must Love Dogs. We continued through going from youngest to oldest. We didn't get Patty's The Fast and the Furious. They didn't get Thomas's, Princess Bride. It is Cora's turn she drew a man with a gun and we didn't get it. John Wick, go figure. Mauro is up and if they get it then they win. He drew a house with a boy holding his cheeks. Dale instantly yells Home Alone. We congratulated the guys on their win. They said since they won they deserved a prize. Patty Cindy Cora and I gave each of our respective mates a kiss. I just gave Nilo a peck on the cheek. He looked sad and so I leaned in to kiss him on the lips. He grabbed hold of me and pulled me closer. He then nipped at my bottom lip and plunged his tongue into my mouth. Our tongues fought for dominance and he won. When he released me I was blushing and gasping for air. He then swatted me on my butt and said, "that's how you kiss a woman." My brother Micky had his hands balled into fists and let out a warning growl. Mauro shook his head and told Nilo to show his baby sister respect. At that moment Mom announced dinner was ready. I let out a sigh of relief. We headed to dinner. Mom made spaghetti with meatballs, Cesar salad, and garlic bread. She served wine for everyone except me. I was given sparkling white grape juice. I sprinkled parmesan cheese on my spaghetti. We don't talk at the dinner table. Mom finds it rude. When everyone is done eating I help Mom clear the table and the men go to the den to drink something stronger and talk pack business. When the men are done talking and the women are done cleaning up from dinner, we prepare to say our goodbyes. My brothers and their mates live in the pack house so they won't leave till after the company leaves. I give Nilo a peck on the cheek and this time he doesn't push it.
