Hearing that announcement, I hid my finger behind my back and then turned to face the door like the others. My heart pounded harder even though I tried to hide how nervous I was at that moment.

What will Alpha say when he sees that my blood has soaked up on the chopper and the vegetables? He would definitely scream at me in the presence of these servants, giving them more reason to make fun of me.

He took a good look at the other servants, and then at me.

‘What is he here for?’ I thought, breathing faster.

Suddenly, I felt my wolf whine in me. I loved that feeling, but I didn't dare to expose it or a sudden smack might land on my face for I dare not smile before the Alpha King as a servant unless I'm told to do so.

‘Mate! Mate!’ My wolf whimpered joyfully.

He is our mate but doesn't know who we are. Does that make sense? Can't his wolf help him come to his senses?

“Your Majesty,” the royal chef drew his attention as he was in the middle of the kitchen, approaching me. “She cut her finger, and her blood had soaked up in the vegetable to be used for your dinner. I wonder why she's so careless. She deserves to be punished.” the chef uttered, sparing me a dirty glance.

I had my back glued to the cabinet. How was it my fault that I cut my finger? Did I intentionally do that?

When I was still Luna, they made several mistakes, and I forgave them. Why is she so cruel? How long has she been seeking an opportunity to troll me?

Alpha Nikolai ignored her and walked over to me. It seemed he had seen my blood dropping on the floor because the first thing he did was grab my hand, exposing my cut.

Our gaze met. I was short of words. Should I apologize or just beg for my death?

The more I looked at him, the more my wolf whimpered, wagging her tail joyfully.

What was that look?

“Vina!!” An unexpected word left his lips.

Did he just mention my name? That's how he pronounced my name from the day I came into the palace. He must have recalled something about us together, right?

“Why were you so careless that you cut your finger, soaking your blood in the Alphas…..” He sneezed out, cutting his words. I watched his Adam's apple as he gulped and then faced me again. “I must have caught a cold,” he muttered and turned backwards, his eyes meeting the other servants.

I was so perplexed. What was going on with him? If Alina finds him here, I will bear the cross, and he will do nothing other than to obey her.

“Get me the first aid kit….” he ordered.

For some time, the servants stared at themselves. They seemed shocked just like I was. Not until the royal chef headed to the right corner of the kitchen and brought out the first aid kit. She brought it to the Alpha and dropped it on the cabinet.

“Your Majesty,” I winked, trying as much as I could to hold back the tears that suddenly gathered in my eyes. Whatever he's up to made me recall the good days we spent before the accident took place. “You can't do this…. for my sanity. I will take care of myself.”

He seemed to be ignorant because he turned a deaf ear and opened the kit. I was speechless, staring at his face while he cleaned my wound and bandaged it with a little plaster, making me feel at ease.

“You can continue when the pain dissipates,” he said to me and closed the kit. “I will wait for the meal patiently, so take your time.”

My heart was so heavy as I watched him tap my cheek and stroll out of the hall. I couldn't hold the tears any longer. The least I did was to back the other servants and wipe the tears constantly.

Did he recall me? Has he been pretending? I don't even know what to believe right now. Let's say it's the matebond that brought him here and made him act nice to me. He can suddenly become cruel again.

‘That's not true. Can’t you recall how he looked at us in Alina's room?’ My wolf chipped into my thoughts.

I sniffled. That's true. There was a lot behind that look that I couldn't understand.

“Dammit!! How can Alpha be nice to her after not recalling who she is?” I heard the voice of the royal chef, and when I turned, I saw her leaving the kitchen.

What was her business? She was a chef when I came in here and is still a chef. What is her problem with how Alpha Nikolai acts?

I caught a glimpse of the drop of blood on the floor, so I grabbed the mop and sprinkled detergent and water on the floor before I began cleaning it.

While still on it, Evangeline rushed into the kitchen and took the mop from me. I stood aside, dumbfounded, watching until she was done, and then she washed her hands.

She took a look at my bandaged cut and smiled. “Did he look at you in a lovely manner? I bet the mate bond won't let him forget you entirely.”

“Help me prepare his meal,” I said to her, and she agreed, and then we got into the work.

Along the way, I recalled my thoughts earlier and broke the silence between us. “Evan, how do you think I will know if he's pretending or he truly has amnesia? I can't get over this…especially now that my wolf is active and the bond is becoming stronger.”

She glanced at me. “I have a way,”

My eyes widened as I rushed closer to her. “What is it? Tell me fast!!”

“Make love to him and see how he feels with you.”

My brows wrinkled. Is she insane or what? How will I get a man that has no memory of me in bed? Not that I don't want to feel his touch, but he will likely have me thrown into the dungeon.

“That won't work….” I snapped at her and contorted my face.

She sniffed, “It will. Just have s*x with him and monitor his words, feelings, and every other thing. That way, you will be able to know his state of mind.” she whispered to me persistently.

My eyes were affixed on the wall. How will I do it? Won’t I regret it later on?

“Why not stay back when you serve him? That way, no one will even draw you out. You might be punished…but you will get an answer to your worries.” she added like she was so sure of herself.

I nodded, believing that it would work. “Fine! If the royal chef leaves to call Alina, then she will be here soon. I should leave before she comes in here." I muttered and began disclosing the seasoning I was holding.
