Chapter 4 - Lucas

Lucas POV “Don’t look at me like that Sebastian.” Lucas says to his Beta, while turning away in frustration at his disapproving look. Sebastian has served as Lucas’ Beta for over 200 years and was the closest thing to a father Lucas has ever had. Which is the only reason he put up with his disapproving look right now. “As the Alpha of the Blood Moon pack you know you are expected to be there today.” Lucas groaned. “Can’t you just go in my stead? Isn’t that the whole reason that I have a Beta?” Lucas knew he was whining like a child but he was tired of trying to make peace with the Crescent Bolt pack. He already knew how this peace summit would end. In some kind of disaster that would cause the talks to be over. Sebastian said nothing. Just stood there with his massive arms crossed over his ever impressive chest and waited patiently while Lucas worked things out for himself. The years have been rough on Sebastian. Lines were starting to form around his eyes and gray was starting to appear around his temples. These signs of aging only made him more irresistible with the ladies and Sebastian saw more ass than Lucas did these days. Not that Lucas has shown much interest in any she-wolves lately. More and more Lucas yearned for his one true mate that will likely never come. True mates were hard to come by with most wolves never finding that one person that was made for them. The lucky ones that he knew that had were better in every way after. They found a strength that could not come from working harder but came from an unbreakable bond shared between two people. “f**k!” Lucas pulled his six foot six inch frame from his seat and stalked over to his wardrobe mumbling about “political bullshit” and “waste of time”. All the while Sebastian just stood in the doorway with his arms crossed over his chest. Lucas scowled at him. “I really should demote your ass, you know that?” With those words Lucas threw open his wardrobe and grabbed black slacks and a black v-neck shirt. Sebastian raised an eyebrow at his wardrobe choice. “Get off it old man!” He growled. “No one said I had to dress fancy for this complete waste of my f*****g time. I could be home, balls deep in some she-b***h slut, but noooo I have to go to yet ANOTHER peace summit with those annoying f*****g do gooders.” Sebastian yet again raised an eyebrow at Lucas’ outburst. “Oh, shut up! I got up out of my seat.” He said while pointing at his comfortable chair that was calling for him to return to it. “I am getting myself dressed.” Said while throwing his dirty clothes at Sebastian’s stoic features. “And I will drag my ass to the 50th f*****g peace summit that I have been forced to attend over the years.” He finished while slamming his wardrobe shut. “You talk too damn much Sebastian. You know that?” Lucas growled. That got Sebastian going. He bent over bursting into laughter. Lucas looked on in disgust. “Oh ha ha. Laugh it up you Hefner wannabe.” That got Sebastian going even more. “You do more than enough talking for the both of us Alpha. Now get your sorry ass moving before we’re late to this waste of time as you called it.” With that Sebastian turned and left Lucas’s room and headed downstairs to the kitchen. Lucas mind linked his Gamma Tobias to check in on security preparations for the peace summit. ‘Tobias’. ‘Alpha’ Tobias linked back. ‘Heard Sebastian went all Dad mode on you to get your ass moving’. He chuckled through their link. ‘Does nobody in this bloody pack respect me as the Alpha’ Lucas growled, shaking his head in frustration. More laughter was heard through the link with Tobias. ‘Of course we do Alpha. Those close to you just don’t fear you as much as the other members of the pack.’ Lucas could picture the wide grin that was gracing that soon to not be pretty face of his Gamma and he brushed his hand down his face. “I am going to replace the lot of them.” Lucas grumbled to himself, forgetting the reason he mind linked his Gamma in the first place. ‘Uh, did you need something Alpha? I’m pretty sure it wasn’t to talk about your scolding from Sebastian.’ Lucas heard more chuckling through the link. ‘I did not get “scolded” from Sebastian’ he responded incredulously. ‘He just stood there staring at me the whole time.’ Lucas growled in frustration and kicked his dresser with more force than intended putting his foot through it. “f**k!” Now he really was going to get a scolding from Sebastian. “What a STUPID f*****g day!” Speaking of today. ‘How are the preparations for security for the peace summit this afternoon coming along?’ Lucas mind linked back to his Gamma. All business now, Tobias responded just as seriously back to his Alpha. ‘We have a group of five of our warriors that will stand behind us at the border of our territory and the Crescent Bolt pack territory. We have an extra one hundred warriors that will be stationed a hundred yards back as back up in case anything goes wrong.’ Lucas snorted. More like when something goes wrong instead of in case something goes wrong. Lucas sighed to himself questioning why he agreed to another peace summit to begin with. That’s right, f*****g Sebastian with his ever brillant ideas. Snapping back to the conversation with his Gamma, Lucas asked Tobias, ‘What about border security for our pack members not coming to the summit?’ ‘I have increased patrol around our border, teaming everyone up during their patrol. All members are attending a family fun day at the castle with separate activities for teens and unmated wolves within different rooms in the castle in order to keep everyone together.’ Lucas nodded to himself as he gathered up the papers he would need for the peace summit later. ‘That’s a good plan. Keep all the wolves in one place so it’s easier to defend against an attack. It was Meghan’s idea wasn’t it.’ He said teasing. Lucas could hear his Gamma rolling his eyes before he responded. ‘She might be an annoying little brat but she is very good at activity planning and will excel in strategizing when she’s out of school.’ Lucas could hear the tenderness in his Gamma’s voice as he spoke about Meghan. Meghan has been following Tobias around with stars in her eyes since she was six and Tobias was twenty-eight. With Meghan about to be eighteen in a few weeks and almost old enough to gain her wolf and find her mate, Lucas wondered more and more if Tobias and Meghan would be mated together. A pang of jealousy went through Lucas before he brushed it away. He would be ecstatic for his best friend if he was lucky enough to find his true mate. And for Meghan as well. ‘She will be a great addition indeed.’ Was all Lucas said as he walked out of his room and down to meet his warriors in the Great Hall.
