Summer POV
The sun was shining when Summer peeked from under her pile of blankets. Sighing she tried to gain motivation to get out of her warm cocoon of pillows and blankets. Today would be the first peace summit that she attended with her mother and father. The Alpha and Luna of the Crescent Bolt pack.
At twenty eight, Summer wasn’t alive the last time the Crescent Bolt and Blood Moon packs attempted their last peace summit thirty years ago. To be honest Summer didn’t understand why they bothered with another one now. It’s not like any of the countless others over the last five hundred years or so has done anything to bridge the two packs before.
And really, what is so special about the Blood Moon pack anyways? True, they have the fiercest warriors of any of the packs. But we’re not currently at war so we don’t need them as allies. Even the rogue wolves don’t dare to attack the Crescent Bolt pack. Which really makes no sense to Summer because we’re not a very strong pack.
The Crescent Bolt pack is filled with Historians and Scholars. Not a very intimidating bunch if you asked her. Not that anyone ever bothered to ask Summer. If they would only listen to her when she tells them that we shouldn’t use this time of peace to continue to be complacent and that we need to train warriors in case of war.
But what do I know? I haven’t been around long enough to know about the world. Summer rolled her eyes. As if age gave any of those idiots any wisdom. But maybe that is why we have shown so much interest in the Blood Moon pack over the centuries. Maybe the Elders aren’t as useless as they appear. Summer snorted at that thought.
Father could also be after the wealth that I’ve heard the Blood Moon pack holds. There are tales of the money their Alpha has been able to amass for the pack over the centuries. They are known as the wealthiest pack in the area. Quite possibly of all the packs.
This is all speculation though. The Blood Moon pack tends to keep to themselves with their only allies being the Crimson Fang pack north of their border. The Crescent Bolt pack doesn’t associate with the Crimson Fang pack much due to them being a Nord and we are Grecians. They like to drink and fight, we do not.
Those likes are exactly why the Blood Moon pack is allied with them. Stories circulate of the shenanigans those two packs get into on the regular.
What Summer wouldn’t give for some freedom like those two packs to just be herself and let loose every now and then. Unfortunately the Crescent Bolts don’t condone those things. Especially for the daughter of the Alpha.
All of their holier than thou s**t drives Summer up the walls. But alas she has no choice but to play the part of the obedient daughter. While secretly longing for more than what our pack provides.
And that brings her to the only reason she is excited to go to the peace summit this afternoon. Summer has heard the maids whisper about the beauty of the warriors of the Blood Moon pack. Especially their mysterious Alpha. Summer sighed dreamily.
What she wouldn’t give to find her one true mate this afternoon and be whisked away from the boredom of the Crescent Bolt pack. Summer loved her parents dearly but she’s at an age where she wants more for her life than the constant monotony that comes with being a part of her pack. Especially being someone of importance to the pack.
Lately Summer’s father has been pushing for her to settle down with one of the Lord’s sons but Summer is reluctant to settle down with someone who isn’t her mate.
I know I might never find my one true mate, but I’m not ready to give up yet. Wolves can live for hundreds, and for some thousands of years, why should she have to settle down when she’s only twenty eight. That’s a drop in the bucket of the length of her potential life.
Summer sent a prayer up to the Goddess Hera to take mercy on her and to help free her from her father’s wishes for her to marry.
Just then there was a knock at her door. “Summer. Are you awake?” It was Summer’s mother Luna Rose of the Crescent Bolt pack.
Summer sighed to herself before responding. “Yes I am awake Mother, you may come in.” Luna Rose didn’t wait for her daughter to finish speaking before she entered her bedchambers and tsked at her daughter for still being in bed.
“Why are you still in bed and not up getting ready for this important day? Are you trying to anger your father today? Hmm?”
Summer groaned and pulled the covers over her face. “No Mother. I was just getting up before you came to my room.” When Summer pulled the covers off from her face she saw her mother walking around gathering items.
Summer’s bedroom was more like a not so tiny apartment within their modest castle. Attached to where her bed was located was a sitting area equipped with couches and a TV. Not that Summer watched TV much. She preferred to spend most of her time reading.
Next to that was a small kitchen area that had a mini fridge, two seater table and chair set, and a microwave for the times where Summer didn’t feel like going down and eating with the pack. Which wasn’t as often as she would like because it was ‘not appropriate for the daughter of the Alpha to sit in her room all day and not associate with the pack’. Summer rolled her eyes.
This caused Luna Rose to frown at her daughter. “Don’t you roll your eyes at me little wolf. Today is an important day and you will be the perfect Alpha’s daughter and not embarrass me or your father.”
Rising from her bed Summer looked to her mother and nodded obediently. It was easier to just go along with what she was saying than to argue with her mother when she got like this. Besides, it was better if her mother thought she was only going because she was being told to go, not because she actually selfishly wanted to go.
Kissing her mother on her cheek Summer walked into her expansive full en suite bath and got busy getting ready for the day. Today was going to be a good day. She could feel it in her soul.
