Chapter 7- Preparations

Lucas POV “It’s not too late to send a messenger saying that we regret to inform them that we will not be attending this useless peace summit.” Lucas said, giving his Beta Sebastian his winning smile that had won over many a she-wolf. Sebastian snorted. “Not a chance Lucas. Now stop acting like a spoiled child and get your pack ready to go make peace with our neighboring pack.” Lucas stuck his tongue out behind Sebastian’s back. “I saw that Alpha.” He said, punctuating the title of Alpha. Lucas straightened his shoulders and stood tall. “I don’t know what you are talking about old man.” He said while walking past Sebastian out to the courtyard where his pack members had gathered. Lucas stood proud and tall when he addressed his pack. “Today we set out to attempt the first peace summit with the Crescent Bolt pack in thirty years. I do not know how things will go this afternoon with our neighboring pack, but I do know that no matter what you, my brothers and sisters, will be protected from any threats that might try and take advantage of our absence.” Cheers broke out amongst the crowd of wolves. Lucas waited for everyone to settle down before he continued speaking. “While we are away we have increased border patrol and Sentinels around the castle. So please rest assured that you are safe within the castle walls while your Alpha and Beta are away. Enjoy the festivities that Meghan has planned for you all.” More cheering and howling erupted from the wolves in the courtyard. When everything died down Meghan stepped up to address the crowd. “Thank you Alpha for the recognition, but it was a collection of the Omegas that made these festivities today possible for us all.” Lucas glanced over at Tobias and saw pride reflecting in his gaze as he watched Meghan speak. That man has got it bad he chuckled to himself. Lucas realized he hadn’t been listening to what Meghan had been saying and was at a loss when he noticed everyone was looking at him expectantly. ‘They’re waiting for you to release them from the assembly” Meghan chuckled through their mind link. Lucas smiled at his pack. “For the Blood Moon!” Lucas yelled, then howled to the heavens. All around him his pack followed suit before wandering off into varying directions to enjoy the activities provided in the castle. Sebastian walked over, slapping Lucas on the back. “Look at you acting like a real Alpha.” Tobias chuckled and Lucas sent him a death glare that did little to scare him. “Seriously! Why do I keep the both of you around?” He asked growling. “Because you would be nothing without us.” Came from Tobias with a laugh. Lucas snorted. “I think I would be much better off without the pair of you hanging around.” “Keep telling yourself that Lucas.” “Okay you two. That’s enough goofing off. It’s time we meet the warriors outside the castle walls and head to the border of our territories. We’re already running late thanks to our mighty leader taking his sweet time getting ready this morning.” Sebastian said, smirking. “One of these days old man.” Lucas said, shaking his head and walking away. Sebastian chuckled and followed Lucas out the castle gates with Tobias following behind them grinning. When Lucas, Sebastian, and Tobias reached the warriors waiting for them outside the castle gates they all stopped joking around and stood to attention. ‘I guess there are still wolves in the Blood Moon pack that still respect me as their Alpha.’ He mind linked to Sebastian and Tobias, chuckling. Lucas could hear Tobias laughing through their link. But for those looking at him they never would know it. Tobias stood proud and strong in front of his fellow wolves taking his position as Gamma seriously. Lucas addressed the one hundred and five warriors standing before him. “Who's ready for a peace summit?” He asked howling. All one hundred and five warriors, plus Sebastian and Tobias howled back in response. “Does everyone know their positions?” Lucas asked, even though he knew that Tobias could be trusted to have it all covered already. When all warriors nodded their heads in the affirmative Lucas put his right fist in the air. “Let’s get to this peace summit then. With any luck we’ll be back before the unmated she-wolves are too drunk or occupied by another.” All the wolves put their right fists in the air. “For the Blood Moon!” Lucas howled. “FOR THE BLOOD MOON!” With that Lucas walked to the front of the pack and led his warriors to the border of his territory and that of the Crescent Bolts. After twenty minutes of walking Lucas signaled for everyone to halt by holding his right fist in the air. All the wolves sniffed the air for danger while looking at their surroundings wondering what caused their Alpha to stop so suddenly. “What is it?” came from Sebastian, and “Why did we stop?” from Tobias. Lucas put one finger to his lips as a sign not to speak out loud before saying out loud, “I figured these lazy wolves needed a small break before we reached our destination.” Sebastian and Tobias nodded in understanding and waited for Lucas to mind link them as to what the problem was. The rest of the wolves stayed on guard not put off by Lucas’s comment about them needing a break. They understood without being told that Lucas feared being overheard by other wolves in the area and stood patiently for their next orders. ‘Do you smell that?’ Lucas finally asked through their mind link to Sebastian and Tobias. Lucas watched as both Sebastian and Tobias sniffed the air non-chalantly. ‘I don’t smell anything.’ came from Tobias and Sebastian inclined his head in agreement. Lucas sometimes forgets that he’s much older than his Beta and Gamma so their sense of smell wasn’t as strong as his. ‘There’s magic in the air. Those do gooders brought witches with them. I don’t know if I should be worried or impressed that they took initiative this time around.’ Tobias’ face showed shock for a split second before he smoothed out his features, while Sebastian gave nothing away. Both men sniffed the air a little more deeply this time and found the faint traces of magic that Lucas was talking about. ‘How did you smell it without searching for it?’ Tobias asked in amazement. Only Sebastian knew the secrets of his past so he wasn’t surprised at all about his Alpha’s abilities. ‘That’s why I’m the Alpha Tobias.’ Lucas said proudly. ‘Yeah, yeah. So should we be worried? Should we turn around? Gather more men?’ Lucas pondered Tobias’ question for a moment before responding. ‘No, we stay the course but stay on guard. Sebastian, mind link this new information to the warriors and tell them to keep their senses on high alert.’ Sebastian nodded in response and Lucas saw the surprise on the warriors' faces before they stood up taller. Lucas was far more intrigued by this peace summit with this new information. Why would the Crescent Bolt pack bring witches to a peace summit?
