Chapter 8- Peace Summit

1212 Words
Lucas POV Five minutes later the one hundred warriors split from those attending the peace summit and went to their positions in the woods. The Crescent Bolt pack would be able to sense the wolves presence, but that was okay. Lucas wasn’t trying to keep their presence hidden, unlike Alpha Antonio with his witches. The point was to show the Blood Moon packs strength in a way that wasn’t threatening. As if saying, we have the power to wipe you all out, but only if we need to. Not that Lucas, his Beta, Gamma, and the five best warriors under Tobias’ command wouldnt be enough to wipe out the three hundred wolves that Alpha Antio brought along with him. But it’s always good to come prepared just in case. When they finally reached the clearing that borders the Blood Moon packs territory and the Crescent Bolt, Lucas saw that Alpha Antonio had giant tents set up with comfortable seating underneath. As well as tables that were filled with baskets of what Lucas assumed was supposed to be bribes. Lucas lifted an eyebrow at Sebastian when he saw his Beta turn his way. Sebastian’s face remained stoic as always. Sebastian would fit in perfectly with the Queen of Englands Palace Guards with how expressionless his face can remain even in times of stress. Meanwhile Tobias was distracted checking out the fifty or so she-wolves lined up along the sides of the offering tables. ‘This peace summit is getting more and more interesting by the minute.’ Lucas linked to Sebastian. Sebastian of course showed no indication that he even heard Lucas speak and they continued walking. All of a sudden the most tantalizing scent filled the air causing Lucas to stop in his tracks and sniff the air deeply. Sebastian stopped and raised an eyebrow in question. Lucas ignored him and continued looking around for the amazing scent that was coming from somewhere on the Crescent Bolt packs side. It smelled like fresh roses mixed with a hint of vanilla and the scent was driving Lucas’ wolf crazy. Leo was going crazy in his head, pacing back and forth. ‘What is your problem Leo?’ ‘Mate. Mate. Mate.’ Leo said back excitedly. Lucas froze. His mate is over in the Crescent Bolt pack. “s**t!” he said out loud causing Alpha Antonio to look at him in confusion. ‘Are you okay Lucas? You’re acting strange right now.’ Tobias asked him in concern. ‘It’s nothing. Just keep walking.’ Lucas commanded before continuing to walk towards the tents set up in the distance. All the while looking around to figure out who that delicious scent was coming from. When they reached Alpha Antonio, Lucas reached out to shake his hand not really listening to anything the Alpha was saying. Thankfully Sebastian was paying attention and speaking for Lucas while inwardly cursing Lucas for acting childish yet again. A kick from Sebastian caused Lucas to snap back to the present conversation happening in front of him. “As you can see Alpha Lucas the Crescent Bolt pack has prepared these offerings for our most recent, and hopefully last, peace summit.” Last peace summit indeed, Lucas thought to himself. “We appreciate the gesture Alpha Antonio, and I regret to inform you that we didn’t bring any offerings from our pack. I was not informed that we should bring gifts with us this time.” Alpha Antonio waved him off. “Don’t worry yourself Alpha Lucas. The Crescent Bolt pack just wanted to show our good will towards the Blood Moon pack with a few things that we grew in our happy little pack.” With that he turned and gestured towards the tables lined around the tents. “We have fresh fruits and vegetables from our gardens.” With those words five she-wolves smiled and pointed towards their table of baskets. Lucas nodded, not really interested in the she-wolves or what Alpha Antonio was saying. Standing closer to Alpha Antonio caused Lucas to smell faint traces of that alluring scent coming off of him. Could it be that Antonio is married to his mate? Wouldn’t be the first time that someone found their one true mate just to learn that they were already married to some other wolf. Lucas growled, causing Alpha Antonio to jump and stop talking. “Apologies Alpha Antonio.” Sebastian said politely. “Our Alpha doesn’t get out around other people often and has forgotten his manors.” He said pointedly. Lucas sighed inwardly. Get it together Lucas. At the rate we’re going you’re going to be the thing that causes this peace summit to end abruptly. ‘And then how would we find our mate?’ Leo pouted in his head Lucas apologized and listened as Alpha Antonio showed him the other tables full of offerings from the Crescent Bolt pack. All the while the she-wolves at each table were sending Lucas seductive glances which Lucas ignored in frustration. None of these wolves was his mate. How dare they look at him like that! By the end of the gift presentation Lucas was brooding quietly. ‘Stop sending everyone angry looks and get it together Lucas. What in the hell has gotten into you since we showed up?’ Sebastian asked through their mind link. All the while listening avidly to what Alpha Antonio was saying. ‘Leo smells our mate somewhere on the Crescent Bolt side of the border. He’s been hounding me since we got close to find her.’ Sebastian couldn’t quite hide the instance of surprise at hearing that Lucas had found his one true mate and she was here somewhere. “Thank you so much for all of these offerings for the Blood Moon pack. Our members will appreciate the gifts immensely.” Sebastian said, bowing his head slightly in respect. Alpha Antonio brightened at his words. “I am so happy to hear you say that. Our pack worked hard to prepare these gifts for Alpha Lucas and the Blood Moon pack.” Sebastian looked around faking innocence. “Are these all your pack members that are in attendance Alpha Antonio?” Sebastian asked, gesturing to the wolves scattered around in the open. Alpha Antonio looked around before a light clicked on in his eyes. Smiling brightly he replied, “This is everyone except for my lovely Luna, and my daughter Summer.” Lucas perked up at his words and looked at Sebastian, grateful for his quick thinking. Lucas turned where Alpha Antonio was pointing towards a tent at the back of their set up. After a moment two beautiful women came walking out from the tent. But Lucas only had eyes for one woman. ‘MATE. MATE. MATE.’ Leo kept howling in Lucas’ mind, prancing around excitedly, demanding we rush over and claim our mate immediately. Lucas sighed in contentment as he stared at the most beautiful woman he has ever laid eyes on. Lucas looked her over starting from her feet and slowly moved up to her face. When he reached her face he saw that she was staring at him right back. When their eyes met it was like his whole universe clicked into place. The loneliness was finally over.
