Lucas POV
Lucas sighed to himself. As much as he was excited to have finally found his mate after all these lonely years, he was not too keen on it being the daughter of Alpha Antonio. Although, it is better than it being the wife of Alpha Antonio. That could have gotten really bloody. ‘Would have gotten really bloody.’ Leo corrected in his mind. Lucas nodded in agreement with his wolf. A true mate was too precious to give up just because she was married to someone else. Thankfully he didn’t have to worry about that though.
Still…of all the luck he could have had when finding his mate. Why did it have to be that do gooder’s daughter? The Moon Goddess sure had a sense of humor up there with this match. Pairing him with the pack that he has tried so hard to avoid over the centuries. Now he’ll have no choice but to accept them as allies and go along with whatever scheme Alpha Antonio has been cooking up.
Lucas wasn’t sure what this scheme was, but he knew that there was one. Why else would he continuously attempt peace summits and go through so much trouble to make this one work? Lucas looked around at all of the offerings again. He snorted to himself. Alpha Antonio is essentially trying to bribe them into an agreement.
Lucas was a bit surprised that the do-gooder was willing to w***e out his she-wolves in order to seal the deal though. That was highly unexpected of Alpha Antonio for sure. And appeared to be winning over the votes of many of his warriors. What was even more surprising was the fact that his Beta Sebastian has barely spared any of the scantily clad she-wolves a glance since the Luna and her daughter had exited the tent.
Lucas glanced over at his second in command and studied him. His face gave nothing away. At least no outsiders would be able to read anything from Sebastian’s face. But Lucas wasn’t an outsider. Lucas has known Sebastian since he was a pup and basically raised him. Which is why the switch in the father son dynamic was laughable to him these days.
Lucas could see the shock and the undercurrents of pain underneath Sebastian’s mask of calm. What could have Sebastian so bothered? ‘It better not be our Luna!’ Leo growled in Lucas’ mind. Lucas, who had been staring at his beautiful mate, whipped his head back towards Sebastian at Leo’s words and a growl escaped his lips before he could hold himself back.
Sebastian turned his head his way and raised an eyebrow in question. ‘Problem Alpha?’ he mind linked to Lucas.
‘That depends, Beta.’ He said emphasizing Sebastian’s title to remind him that he is beneath him in the pecking order. ‘What is your interest with my mate over there?’ Lucas growled through the link.
Sebastian raised his brows in surprise and glanced back over at the women that had finally made it to Alpha Antonio’s side. Alpha Antonio, Luna Rose, and their daughter Summer stood there staring at the two wolves. They could tell that the two were having a discussion in their minds and didn’t want to interrupt.
After a brief moment of assessing the two women he turned back towards his Alpha before responding through their link. ‘The daughter is your mate.’ He said without question. Sebastian has known Lucas long enough to be able to tell from watching his eyes. Though he was sure that Alpha Antonio and his Luna had not noticed the sudden interest Lucas had shown in their daughter.
And from the quick glances Sebastian could see the daughter giving in Lucas’ direction he would bet that the she-wolf could feel the mate bond as well. Sebastian’s chest swelled with joy that his Alpha had finally found what he had been longing for and a grin spread across his face, which eased the tension in Lucas.
‘He’s not after our mate Leo.’ Lucas said to the wolf pacing back and forth within Lucas’ mind. The wolf sighed in relief and laid his body down to swoon over his beautiful mate.
‘Uh guys…what’s going on with you two?’ Came from Gamma Tobias through their shared connection.
‘Our Alpha has found our Luna.’ Sebastian responded with pride.
Tobias gasped through their link and had to force himself not to start searching around at all of the she-wolves that were present. ‘Which one?’ He asked instead.
‘The Alpha’s daughter.’ Lucas said lovingly. Stealing a glance her way with his eyes only.
‘Shit.’ Came Tobias’ response. ‘We’re going to have to ally ourselves with these wolves now aren’t we?’ Tobias whined through the link which caused Sebastian and Lucas to both chuckle through the link.
‘My thoughts exactly.’ Lucas responded.
Alpha Antonio finally got tired of waiting and cleared his throat to get the Alpha’s attention. All three men’s eyes turned and focused on Alpha Antonio.
Summer’s POV
Summer stood by her mother’s side, silently assessing her mate across the field. Who is the wolf that the Moon Goddess has deemed the perfect match for her? He stood across from her father with two other men so he must be someone of importance to the Blood Moon pack.
Summer waited patiently while the men in front of her seemed to be having a conversation through their mind link. She stole glances of her mate, careful not to let her parents see the interest she had for him.
She wasn’t sure why, but she had a feeling that letting her parents know of her newfound mate would be a bad thing right now. So she settled for the secret glances that she shared with her mate. ‘Look at him.’ Miri said dreamily. ‘He’s so beautiful. And masculine. And delicious.” She said, licking her chops.
Summer chuckled out loud causing her mother to cast her a glance. Summer shook her head to let her mother know it was nothing. ‘You’re going to get me into trouble Miri.’ Summer hissed in her head.
Miri laid her head down and whimpered. ‘Sorry Summer.’
It was hard for Summer to continue to be upset with her wolf, especially when she a hundred percent agreed with what Miri said about their mate. He appeared to be around six and a half feet and had the most gorgeous green eyes Summer had ever seen on a person with specks of gold sprinkled in. Though she could be biased due to their mate bond.
Her mate had shoulder length jet black hair and it was luxurious to look at. Most men don’t look good with longer hair, but her mate was an exception. He sported braids throughout his hair which only spoke to his close ties with the viking pack the Crimson Fang.
Summer couldn’t wait to run her fingers through his hair while she begged him to.. Summer was ripped from her imaginings when she heard her father clear his throat. Summer jumped with a start and looked down to cover the blush she got from her embarrassment over her thoughts.
In her head Miri chuckled and encouraged Summer to keep going with her thoughts because she liked where they were headed. Summer rolled her eyes at her wolf and listened quietly as her father addressed the men before them.
“Gentlemen, I aplogize for the interruption of your conversation, but if you would care to follow me we could move to somewhere more comfortable and out of the sun.” Alpha Antonio gave a hopeful smile to the men while pointing to the tent that Luna Rose and Summer exited from a little bit ago.
“Apologies, Alpha Antonio. Please, lead the way.” This came from the man standing to the left of Summer’s mate. ‘He must be the Alpha.’ Summer thought to herself.
She looked back to her mate wondering what his role in the Blood Moon pack could be. Gamma maybe? Or more likely the Beta. Her mate and the man to her left looked to have more of an Alpha/Beta relationship than anything else. Summer could tell by their interactions.
Coming from her musings, Summer followed her father and mother back to the tent. She was highly aware of her mate standing close behind her and felt shivers run down her spine when she felt him take a whiff of her hair.
She had heard how strong a mate bond could be but she wasn’t expecting this instant electricity and attraction that she was feeling for her mystery mate. If she wasn’t careful everyone around them would begin to smell the scent of her arousal. With that thought Summer began to walk a little faster to catch up with her parents.
When they reached the tent, the man Summer took for the Alpha put his right hand over his chest and bowed to her and her mother. “I apologize for my Alpha’s behavior. He forgets his manners quite often I’m afraid.” He said, chuckling.
Summer opened her mouth to respond before freezing in place when his words reached her brain. Her eyes went wide in surprise and she locked eyes with her mate. The Alpha of the Blood Moon pack.
When her eyes met Lucas’, she found him staring at her intently. Miri perked up in Summer’s mind when she heard our mate was the Alpha. Summer controlled her features before her parents could notice her shock and turned back to the man who was speaking.
“I am Sebastian, Beta to the Blood Moon pack.” He said, bowing again.
‘So I was right about their relationship, just wrong about their titles’ she thought to herself before responding to Beta Sebastian. Putting her right hand over her chest, Summer returned the bow that Beta Sebastian bestowed upon her and introduced herself. “I am Summer. Daughter to Alpha Antonio and Luna Rose. Pleasure to meet you, Beta Sebastian.”
She turned to her mate and offered the same bow and introduction to him. “And your name Alpha?”
Her mate returned her bow and reached for her right hand. When he caught her hand he placed a light kiss that sent waves of pleasure rushing through Summer and caused her to hold her breath in anticipation. When her mate finally spoke it was the most beautiful sound she had ever heard and it intensified the hunger running through her veins. “I am Lucas, Alpha of the Blood Moon pack.”
