She's My Mate! (the Excruciating Pang!)
Jared's POV.
"Please! Please don't hurt me, please!" Sarah cried loudly, her voice shaky as she suddenly tumbled to the ground.
She was undeniably terrified of me, horrified by the monster standing right before her eyes at night. I had gotten out of control and couldn't stop the rage I felt within.
And at this point, her pleas fell upon deaf ears as I felt my humanity slipping away.
My eyes shifted, turning into an eerie, glowing crimson red, reflecting the intense fury consuming me.
Shiny, sharp claws extended from my fingers, their frightening gleam capturing her trembling gaze.
My relentless steps toward her left Sarah with no choice but to desperately attempt to crawl away, to distance herself from the approaching monster.
Yet, no matter how she struggled, my inner wolf's main desire was to tear her apart, to shatter her, to unleash her wailing hollers into the night.
"Pl…please… not me! Not me!" Her desperate screams fell upon unfeeling ears.
In her attempted escape, she unfortunately collided with the tree looming right behind her, cornered and helpless.
I was at the brink of capturing her, or rather, my savage wolf was on the verge of tearing her apart.
As my hand ascended, poised to deliver the final, deadly s***h, her trembling eyes underwent a sudden, astounding change.
They shifted from fear to a radiant, vibrant green, and a wave of intense agony and heartache surged through my veins instantly.
"Ahhhhh!!!" A guttural, agonised growl erupted from my lips. I clutched my head with my hands, as if attempting to wrench it from my very skull.
The surreal, excruciating pain was a torment I had never experienced since my cursed life as an Alpha.
"Ahhhhh!" I involuntarily roared out, my eyes squeezed shut, and I stumbled backward, attempting to rein in the seething rage that coursed through my veins.
"Alp… alpha Jared?" Sarah's voice pierced through the uproar of emotions that raged within me. I struggled to regain my composure at this point.
"Alpha, are you okay?" She inquired, her voice laced with genuine concern and worry, even though I had nearly killed her in the grip of my uncontrollable fury.
Sarah, to me will always remain a weak and naive Omega, who was ignorant to the danger she was in.
She was supposed to run, to escape while she still had the chance. However, instead of retreating, she drew closer to me.
"Get away from me!! Get out while you still can!" I warned, still striving to protect her, yet she remained stubborn and seemingly ignorant to the seriousness of the situation.
At that moment, Sarah reached out to me, her trembling hands resting on my shoulders. I couldn't help but wonder why she had come so close despite her obvious fear.
"Alpha Jared, you need to…" She began to say when the intense pang, fueled by my raging wolf, surged once more, and suddenly, a deafening wail pierced the air, causing my heart to pound even faster.
In an instant, I realised the source of the agonised cry: it was Sarah herself. At that very moment, the excruciating pain abruptly ceased oddly, prompting me to release my grip on my hair and swiftly turn around in search of her.
My eyes fell upon the sight of Sarah's bloodied and lifeless form, laying on the ground before me.
"Holy f**k!" Panic surged through me as I rushed toward her in terror. My eyes widened with regret, my body trembling in fear.
"What… how… what have I done!?" I murmured under my breath, my voice shaking. My hands instinctively reached for her lifeless body, cradling it in my arms.
My right hand gently supported her neck, while my left hand trembled as it touched the deep gash on her chest.
"What have you done, Jared! What the heck have you done to your mate?" I muttered repeatedly, my eyes blinking incessantly as I struggled to control my overwhelming emotions.
I felt an odd blend of sadness and guilt, a confusing feeling because, truth be told, I hated her so much. I despised every aspect of her and had never wished to see her again.
But here I was, feeling sad seeing her in such a state.
I had indeed scratched her with my claws, but it wasn't entirely my fault. "I warned you! I freaking warned you!"
Just then, I lifted my face and realised that we were deep in the woods, an isolated and secluded place where nobody would easily find us.
"Where do I go from here? How did I even get here?" I panicked, my eyes darting around as I held her lifeless body in my lap.
I was still grappling with how to escape this situation when suddenly, I heard Beta Lucian's voice resonating through the quiet woods. I bet he must have probably traced us with the loud cry heard from Sarah.
"What happened to her, Alpha Jared?" Beta Lucian asked, his tone tinged with confusion, intensifying my overwhelming guilt, even though no tears welled up in my eyes.
I was unable to find words, my head simply shaking in a chorus of guilt.
"Alpha!?" Beta Lucian instantly rushed towards us, the urgency in his voice undeniable.
He reached us and exclaimed, "We need to get her help immediately! She's bleeding! She needs to leave here now!!" His tone left no room for delay.
"What difference will it make? She's like this because of me, and I doubt she'll even breathe anytime soon!" I responded bitterly, my voice resisting his advice.
"She will bleed to death, Alpha, and everyone will tag you as a heartless Alpha! The Alpha who killed his Mate right after they were Mated!" Beta Lucian's voice trembled with urgency and anger, but I remained stubbornly reluctant to heed his words.
I was consumed in confusion, uncertain of my own desires but one thing was clear, though: seeing Sarah in this state shook my soul, filling me with dread.
It intensified the nagging feeling that I was indeed a monster, just as they labelled me.
"Alpha Jared!?" Lucian called out once more, his voice cutting through the conflict of my thoughts and at that moment, a surge of determination coursed through my veins.
I would save her not just because she was mated to me, but because of what had been said about her.
To break the curse, I needed her, and to fulfil her role as a mate, she needed me.
With this belief ringing in my head, I gathered her into my arms and lifted her, holding her in a bridal style.
Her head lay against my chest, her eyes tightly shut in unconsciousness.
"Lead the way, Lucian!" I ordered, my tone deep and scary. However, Lucian appeared rebellious.
"I can carry her myself if you'd prefer, Alpha… she…" he began to say, but I swiftly interrupted him.
His words had sparked an unexpected irritation within me, an overwhelming sense of possession coursing through my veins.
"She is my mate and my responsibility! How dare you even think of touching what belongs to the Alpha?"
I retorted, my voice laced with possessiveness and protectiveness.
