The tale of Chu Qie

Chapter 18

Pitter, patter, the rain outside was so strong. However inside the cave was quite impressive. There were little vines and flowers crawling on every wall. Glow worms even happen to shine brightly making it brighter inside. I sat near a stone made seat while the fire slowly crackled and provided warmth. It was so peaceful, only my mind is very chaotic and my heart is stressed this day.

I secretly threw a glimpse at the stoic-faced deity in front of me. Then inwardly sighed, when he confessed to me that night I really thought I have a place somewhere in his heart. It is quite unfair because my heart has always been occupied by him, even when I lost my memory I still can feel my heart beats for him. Mai Cui tell me truthfully are you trying to enter my life with one foot left outside my door? Do I really have a place in your heart? My eyes stung and silently I grieve inside.

"General, are you alright?" I tried opening a conversation and he also seems to be caught in the trail of his thoughts. Hearing my question he snapped and look at me for a moment.

"Chu Qie, do you like g*n Liu Hyun? Do..you enjoy his company?" his sudden question startled my poor unprepared brain.

"g*n Liu Hyun? Why ask about him?" I look at him intently and he was doing the same thing. I hurriedly look away and waited for his answer.

"I don't know but I seem to be bothered by his presence, even though I know you still have feelings for me..."

"You! When did I ever have feelings for..."

"Still denying it?"

"I...when..no..way.." shutting my mouth is the best option and I threw a glare at his smug face.

"And what if I have feelings for you. What are you going to do about it?," I ask him boldly making him turn speechless.

"Chu Qie, I also like you but..."

"You also like Kang Zue," I ended his statement which made the atmosphere between us turn more awkward.

"Mai Cui, can I be selfish and at least feel I have a place in your heart just this night," my voice cracked and the endless pain came back. I walked to him, gazing with love, gently caressing his cheeks. My eyes pleading while I let my emotions take control.

Just this night, let's forget about your feelings for Kang Zue and at least just feel our love. Closing my eyes I covered his thin lips with mine.

Cutting our kiss I look at him and smiled, "Mai Cui, even if time has let us forgot many things my heart will always remember the love I laid for you. I will always love you."

My heart felt lighter after confessing my feelings. He looks at me intently and his lips drawn into a genuine smile.

"Then let me also tell you..." he pulled me closer to him and gently he whispered the words I've always wanted to hear for the longest time.

A sweet feeling painted my heart and happily, I looked at him and give him a kiss which he also happily responded. Our desire for each other slowly ignited and those tiny little flames started spreading in making us lose our senses.

And inside the cave, we showed our love and desire for each other.

When morning came, I woke up with a face as red as a lobster. Hurriedly I fumbled on my clothes and changed. Looking around it seems he is gone, smiling bitterly, I look at the stormy scene outside. It was quite rainy and showed no sign of stopping.

I tried going deeper into the cave hoping I could find some exit. I carefully walk through the steep and slippery rocks. The glow worms helped me see the paths. As I ventured inside I was astounded at what I have recovered. An underground lake and big diamonds were surrounding the lake making it look so pretty. The water shined sparkly blue thanks to the lights reflected by the stones.



However, the place was quiet so nostalgic like I have been here before for a very long time.

Suddenly a small white fairy appeared in front of me surprising me for a second. It gives a cute sound while hovering all over me.

"Hey, what's your name?," I ask giggling while I played with it. She landed on my hand then signaled me to touch her head, curious I did what she wanted me to do. My finger lightly landed on her, then I felt a strong yang energy entering my body, it felt so refreshing.

However, a memory flashed in my eyes.

Two figures were walking on the path the same as this. A lady beautiful as a flower while the other was a cute child smiling foolishly. Beautiful fairies surrounded them as they were happily talking. When one fairy suddenly fell all weak and depleted. Her last breath was only a few seconds before she is gone.

"Mama, the fairy is dying," the child pitifully cried while embracing the fairy.

"Child, this is the law of life even in heaven and the netherworld. This little one had outlived her life," the lady explained while gently caressing the little creature.

But the child did something horrendous, a little warm yellow orb covered the fairy. And before their eyes the fairy happily sprinted and flew.

"Mother," the child happily pointed at the fairy however when she looked back. What she saw was the panic-stricken expression of her mother.

"Child I am sorry for doing this but I need to erase your memory on being able to have such ability. Because your ability is too precious that evil forces would use you."

"Mother," my eyes were suddenly covered and I can feel someone calling me while being shrug.

"Chu Qie are you alright?" it was Mai Cui. I thought he left, looking around I was back in the same place lying on the same spot. I can no longer see the underground lake and the fairy.

It was already a week and we have been staying in this cave. I don't really know what happened but Mai Cui suddenly becomes indulgent to me. And would always be sweet, caring and loving. And of course, my heart was happy. I am indeed a fool in love and I am happy.

It made me feel like I was living a beautiful dream.

"Cui'er, what are you really afraid of? Is it the heights or something else?"

"Well, actually I am afraid of the cliffs because during my youth. My father was also a general. And he loves to take me to train in the wilderness. One time, he threw me on a den of hellhounds. Another, he threw me in the lair of hell walkers. And the next is when he suddenly kicked me in the cliff and shouted I need to survive the fall or else I would be disowned. Later on I was found hanged in a small growing tree on the cliff. After that I kept on dreaming I am falling on a cliff and I would be stiff as a rock when I will fall on a cliff," he explained while sighing helplessly.

In my heart I couldn't help but pity him. Aye, a brutal father indeed.

"Say when we get back, would you treat me the same way like you do in here?" I ask while playing with my hairpin.

"Of course," he smiled while gently rubbing my tummy.

We heard someone calling and it was no other than g*n Liu Hyun. I was happy because we were finally going out. And at the same time unhappy because my beautiful phantasm has come to an end.

We were already at the manor when an eunuch from the imperial palace was waiting on our gates.

"Your grace, Fourth Prince is engaging on a battle with the devils," I heard the eunuch inform Mai Cui.

His face turning serious, with a whistle. Kuo appeared then getting the message he left.

With a flick of his hand he was dressed in his armor. Kang Zue also pulled out two demon horses and fixed it.

He went to my direction then gave me a peck on my lips which startled me. What is he doing!?

"A charm for me to return," he grinned then left with Kang Zue.

"Oh~ I smell something! Hue~hue~ Lady Chun this prince knows your hiding something from me! So what did you do in the cave?"

I happily entered the Mai Manor while being pestered by the insect, g*n Liu Hyun.
