Elara's Point of View
I was woken up by the sound of the alarm on the nightstand. I looked at it to see it was seven in the morning. I got out of bed and headed to the bathroom to shower. Once I was finished showering, I put on my clothes and brushed my hair and teeth. I decided to wear some blue jeans and a light blue T-shirt. I just combed out my hair and put it in a high ponytail. Once I was finished, I left the bathroom and went to wake Clara up.
"Clara, it's time to get up," I said, and she groaned before sitting up on the bed.
"Do I have to go to school today?" Clara asked
"Yes, go get ready. I have some things to tell you once you are," I said, and then I left her room. I still hadn't told her the good news. I was sure she was going to be very happy when she found out that we no longer had to worry about anyone trying to take her away from me.
I headed to the kitchen to make something to eat. I hadn't checked to see what was in there. First, I looked into the refrigerator to see it was fully stocked. I checked the cabinets and saw that they were also stocked up. I decided to make bacon, biscuits, and eggs. About an hour later, Clara came into the kitchen. She was wearing torn up black jeans and a short sleeve white shirt.
"You cooked. This looks so good," Clara said as she started to make her plate
"There is something I need to tell you," I said
"Please don't tell me it's bad news," Clara said
"No, it's actually very good news," I said
"What is it?" Clara asked
"We don't have to worry about the State trying to take you away anymore."
"Really?" Clara asked
"Yep, Kyle had his lawyer take care of it for us. I am officially your guardian," I said
"Kyle, you mean Mr. Black?" Clara asked
"Yeah."
"So you are on a first name basis now," Clara asked with a smile on her face.
"Clara, it isn't what you think," I said. I could only imagine what type of thoughts were in her head.
Really, then what is it?" Clara asked
"He is my new boss. He is only trying to be nice," I replied, and Clara laughed
"He has helped us so much. You really think he did it just to be nice? I don't think so," Clara said
"You are overthinking it. He is definitely just being nice. I mean, look at all of the people who stay here. There are a lot of people that work for him that lives here," I said
"That might be true, but I doubt he has done all the things for them that he has done for you," Clara said
"Clara, just stop. There is nothing and will never be anything between Kyle and me except for a boss and employee relationship," I said
"Okay," Clara said and I just looked at her for a while as she ate her food. There was a knock on the door and I went to see who it was. Kyle was standing there wearing black business pants and a blue dress shirt. The shirt didn't hide how muscular he was. I couldn't help but stare at him. he was so handsome.
"Good morning?" Kyle said suddenly. I looked up at his eyes and I was sure I was as red as a tomato.
"Um, good morning," I replied
"I came to see if you and Clara were ready to go. Can I come in?" Kyle asked
"Oh, yeah. Come in," I said as I moved out of the way for him to walk into the room then I closed the door
"Good Morning, Clara. How are you doing today?" Kyle asked as Clara walked into the room
"I am fine. Good morning. Elara told me what you did for us. I wanted to thank you," Clara said
"It's nothing. Um, did you tell her about the school situation?" Kyle asked.
"Oh, no," I replied
"What school situation?" Clara asked
"Well, since we live here now, Kyle thought it would be a good idea for you to go to the school here," I said
"It is a good school, and I am sure you will love it," Kyle said
"That's fine with me," Clara said
"You are not upset that you have to switch schools?" I asked
"No, why would I be upset. The kids there were always starting stuff with me and the teachers just let them get away with it," Clara said
"I am happy to hear that," I said
"We should get going," Kyle said. I went to get my purse out of my bedroom and we left. Kyle ended up driving us to Eclipse High School so we could enroll Clara in school. When we got there they were already expecting us. It looked like a good school and I hoped that she would like it. After that, we went to state to sign the guardianship papers. I thought Mrs. Jenny would be there but her supervisor was the one that was there instead
"That is it. You are officially Clara's guardian," Mrs. Jenny's supervisor said. I was so happy. Now, Clara and I wouldn't have to worry about anyone taking her away from me.
"I would also like to apologize to you for what happened yesterday. I had no idea that Jenny would do the things she did. I want to let you know that she has been fired."
"Really?" I asked
"Yes, I couldn't let her treat another family the way she treated yours." I had a feeling that the real reason Mrs. Jenny was fired was because of Kyle.
"Let's get out of here," Kyle said, and we headed to the car. I thought about the things that Clara said this morning.
"Why did you do this?" I asked as soon as we got in the car
"Excuse me?" Kyle asked
"Why did you help me?"
