"Boss, Someone is here to see you" The security guard spoke.

"Who ?" I questioned not in mood for any more business right now.

"No clue. She says she knows you and has something important to tell you"

"Check her and let her in" I said needing to make sure she doesn't have any weapons first.

*knock knock*

So she was clean I guess…

I walked over to the door with no idea of what to expect. Who would have something important to tell me all of the sudden ? Especially someone I apparently don't know..

"Hey, Uhm.. is Elijah Black here ?" She said almost stuttering as I opened the door and was met with a pair of glowing hazel eyes.

"Who's asking ?"

"Uhm.. my name is Valerie.. Valerie Sterling" she said as I stood there still not recognizing the name.

"I'm Elijah, come in" I said moving to the side as she seemed unsure but made up her mind shortly after and stepped in the house.

Immediately her eyes wandered around looking at the mansion she had just stepped into. I guess when you live here you don't observe it as much since you're so used to it.

"What brings you here ?" I asked before walking over to the sofas and taking a seat gesturing for her to do so too.

"Uhm.. you.." she said barley able to get the words out and stopped to take a deep breath.

"I honestly don't know myself.. you knew my mother. Before she died she told me to come here" She said looking at the floor making me try my best to remember but I couldn't recognize her by any chance.

"Who was your mother if you don’t mind me asking ?" I finally asked.

"Kendra Sterling"

"If you don't mind me asking Valerie, but how did your mother die ?" I asked trying to be as soft as possible.

I need to get information and she seems like the type who would scare away easily. So I needed to be careful here not to scare her.

"She was diagnosed with cancer.." she said and didn't really seem like someone in the business. So why the hell would she send her to me. Also, who the hell is she ?

"Elijah ?" Alex said walking into the living room but stopped as soon as she saw the girl sitting on the sofa.

"Oh I didn't know we had guests" Alex immediately apologized making the girl stand up.

"Oh I'm sorry.. I'm gonna leave anyway.. I just thought I would do what she made me promise and here I am" The girl named Valeria said giving Alex a smile before heading towards the door, making me smile gently at her.

"Thank you for letting me in" She said before walking over to the door and walking out.

"Who was that ?" Alex said just as confused as me.

"No idea, but I'm gonna find out pretty soon" I said having a feeling this will be a big ass problem for all of us.

"What great power do we have to thank for you showing your ass here ?" Enzo said making me sigh as I took a seat in his office.

When we had Nik, we decided to step back a little bit. We started legalizing most of our work, which of course brought in less money than before, but it is safe to say that it was still plenty. When he grew up, we taught him a bit and made him the underboss. If anything would happen to me and they needed someone in charge, he would step in. That’s why he gets updates on everything that happens from Enzo. Otherwise, none of us head near the business unless we have to. Enzo did not have the heart to leave it, neither did Alessandro. Just like the past, Enzo and Alessandro were our right hand men who took care of everything.

Sure, me and Alexandra were still in charge at the end of the day, but since we joined together The Black Snakes and The Salvatore's we had more people who could handle stuff and me and Alex were just needed for the more serious business with other organizations. Other than that we could happily depend on Klaus, Alessandro and Enzo.

"Valerie Sterling" I spoke, telling Enzo.

"Who the hell is that ?" He asked not recognizing the name either.

"Great question.. that's why I'm here. Look her up. Background check, family history, where she lives, what she does, what she has for breakfast.. Enzo I want everything" I said making it clear I don't wanna leave a stone unturned.

"s**t man, what happened ?"

"She came knocking on my door this morning, she said her mother made her promise to come to me before she died"

"Who's her mother ?"

"That's what I want you to find out. She said her name was Kendra Sterling, she died of cancer.. the rest is up to you"

"You have a theory about this, don't you ?" He said making me sigh nodding as he unfortunately was right.

"Everything has been going.. good for years.. I have a family Enzo.. you do too. The business is better than ever and only going up, hell 90% of it is even legal. Everything has been wonderful for years.. I feel like all the s**t have been saved to be unleashed now. It feels like the calm before the storm." I admitted as he sighed too.

"Don't overthink this.. and if you're right we will survive this.. I'm sure nothing can be worse than what we have already encountered" he said, and I prayed to god he was right.  I can't lose any of them. I would rather die first..

"Go home.. see your wife and I'll update you as soon as I have the information" he said as I nodded before standing up and heading towards the door. "Elijah" He said making me turn around.

"We got this"

"Thanks p***y" I said as he shook his head sighing.

I just hope he's right.

"Y'all live in a mansion yet you still haven't found a room ?" Enzo said walking in making us pull away.

"What did you find ?" I sighed as Alex chuckled.

"She eats oatmeal with honey and berries for breakfast" he said placing some papers on the counter beside us making me Alex shake her head.

"Stalker alert" she whispered before walking towards the table and continued cutting up the fruits.

"No but for real.. her record is very normal.. graduating college this year with some pretty good grades, lived with her mother until she passed away a few weeks ago, played soccer for a few years.. just a normal girl.. the only thing a bit unusual was that there's absolutely no information about another parent"

"Maybe adopted ?" Alex joined the conversation.

"Maybe, but again there's nothing on her record about that" Enzo replied.

"What about Kendra ?" I asked.

"I knew you would ask about her without even telling me to run a check.. but luckily I'm smart and did so anyway" Enzo said as he took out another thin stack of papers making me throw a piece of grape from the counter beside me on him.

"You'll regret that, Black" He said.

"Yeah sure"

"See her mother actually had some shit.. she didn't exist until 22 years ago" he said as I raised a brow confused.

"What she couldn't have had the girl when she was..5.. could she ?" Alex asked as confused.

"My point. So she might have changed names 22 years ago, and somehow got rid of her old identity so no one could find it" Enzo explained as I knew this was going to be f****d up.

"Any associates?" Alex asked as the leader side of her came out making me unable to hide my grin.

"No.. no family history, no friends, no nothing"

"Now what ?" Alex asked.

"Get ready girls, we are going back to college" I said letting out a deep sigh never thinking these words would come out of my mouth, ever again.

"You have got to be f*****g kidding me.." Alex said making Enzo unable to hold his laugh in for any longer.

I f*****g wish I was..

“Can I just point something out ?” I heard Nik speak, making us all turn around.

“How long have you been standing here ?” Alex asked.

“Long enough..”

“Where is your sister ?” I asked, noticing how quite the house was. Usually they would be at each other’s throats.

“She’s in her room with some friends, now can I just point out something before you all get going ?"

"What's up ?"

"Excuse my language but.. how the f**k are you going to get into a college?" he said stretching the ‘you’ for too long.

Have a kid they said.. it will be fun they said.

"Uhm wow that's rudely true.." said Enzo, standing beside him.

"We'll just go to the principle and tell them we have to speak to Valerie Sterling for important family matters"

"Yeah and why the hell would they say no to two shady looking grandpas" he said making Alex burst out laughing as she grabbed her phone.

"We raised him f*****g incorrectly"

"Oh no trust me honey, he's better than I hoped" she said as I sighed.

"Well I guess that's where Alex comes in. Having a female will make it look a bit more genuine" Enzo explained.

"Fine, y'all need anything from me ?" Nik said at last standing up and taking his phone and keys.

"Na piss off" Elijah said

"Bro watch your f*****g language" Enzo hurried before Alex had the chance to give us s**t for talking like this in front of Nik. But he was probably a bit too excited causing Nik to let out a chuckle, shaking his head as he walked out but Enzo stopped him.

"Guess whose life got a s**t ton easier ?" Enzo said looking up from the laptop.

"Whose ?"

"Ours 'cause she goes to the same college as the kids"

"So the principle isn't a problem anymore..?" Alex asked as Enzo nodded making me smile as I put my gun in my waist strap.

"You said Nik didn't know her ?" I asked wondering if we could maybe skip this whole road trip.

"I didn't recognize her from the pictures. So no. It is also my first year and hre last so nah. Good luck with your trip down memory lane though" He said leaving us three.

"Well, let’s get going to college!" Enzo said with too much excitement in his voice running to the car.

"Why is he so happy about it ?" Alex asked making me remember the past.

"He wanted to go to college when he was younger, but he never had the money to” I explained as we started making our way out. I was just hoping this whole situation won't be as shitty as it seems in my mind.
