The Lost Doctor Luna

Chapter 8

Drake's Pov

I am in my office keeping myself busy with some paperwork. It has been two days since the attack on Mason and the quiet is starting to get to me. Mason has been staying with us while waiting for his men to completely heal before they head back to their pack. He had discreetly reached out to his sister and uncle to see if they knew more about the stories his mother used to tell him. His sister did not even remember the stories, but his uncle might have some more information for us. Mason has agreed to go see his uncle and report back to me if his uncle has information that can help us.

I mind link Aiden and Mark to come to my office so we can decide on the border patrols for the upcoming week. A few minutes later they both enter my office and sit down so we can schedule the border patrol. We look at the map of our grounds and this list of people scheduled for patrol this week.

Mark looks between the list of names and the map and then he turns to me and Aiden and says. "I think we should send groups of two on patrol. The last attack was the worst yet and they killed one of Mason's men and we still don't know how. And after the attack when we ran after them we were able to track them for a while and then they just disappeared again."

Both Aiden and I nod our heads in agreement. "Yes I think that is a good idea. Especially because these wolves like to attack from behind. It would be better if you had someone to watch your back." I say looking over the list one more time.

We finish the border patrol schedule for the upcoming weeks with groups of two wolves.

Mark takes the schedule and says. "Great, I will go put this up on the board so everyone can see the new schedule."

" Thank you. I think we should have a pack meeting too, so we can explain why we changed the border patrol to groups of two. I just want the autopsy results from Mason's pack member before we have the meeting." I say looking at both Aiden and Mark.

"When is the body going to be here so our pack doctor can perform the autopsy?" Aiden asks.

" The body should be here any minute now. Vincent was released today so he is bringing the body with him."

Aiden thinks about it then says. " Thats great news. They must have done something to him to prevent him from being able to heal."

Mark nods his head in agreement. " Yes, okay I am off. Let me know as soon as they have arrived and we have the results." Mark walks out of the office.

I look at Aiden and say. "With all that has been going on I don't know if I told you, but Nicole was one of the doctors who tried to save Mason's warrior."

Aiden looks at me very concerned. "That must have been her first loss. How is she doing?"

"She seems to be handling it really well considering the circumstances. We have been texting for the past few days. We are going to the beach party on Friday and your sister is tagging along too, if you want to join us."

"Yes, sure it sounds like fun. I have some work to get to. Let me know when you have the autopsy results." Aiden turns and walks out of my office to continue with his work.

A few montes later I hear knocking on my office door. I answer without looking up from the paperwork. "Please come in."

Vincent walks into my office and stops in front of my desk and says. "I dropped off the body at the doctor's office. He is ready to start the autopsy as soon as you give the all clear."

I look up at Vincent and say. "Thank you. How are you feeling?"

"Everything is healed and I am ready to get back to work. I want to start training again today."

"That's fine. Just don't over exert yourself."

Vincent nods at me and says. "Thank you, Alpha." Then he turns and walks out of my office.

I mind link Mason to meet me in front of the pack house so we can go to the doctor's office for the autopsy. I get up and walk out to the front of the pack house to wait for Mason. Once Mason arrives I gesture for him to follow me.

"The body is with my pack doctor now and he is waiting on us to start the autopsy." I say as we start walking to the doctor's office.

"Thank you for this. I want to know what happened to him so I am able to give his family some answers once we get back home."

"Of course he was killed because you tried to help us. If you need anything else don't hesitate to ask."

Mason shakes his head. " No, I am good thank you. I talked to Oliver this morning and he said Dr. Kane said he is almost completely healed and should be released tomorrow. Then we have to get back home so we can have a proper burial for Josh."

"I understand, sorry about all of this."

We arrive at the doctor's office and go in. I lead Mason to the morgue where the doctor is waiting for us to start the autopsy. When we enter the morgue, doctor Malcom is already busy inspecting the body and taking notes. I clear my throat to get his attention. Dr. Malcom looks up at us from the body with a puzzling look on his face.

"Good you're here. Come have a look as this." He says, looking back at the body.

Both Mason and I walk over to take a closer look at his body. Doctor Malcom uses his pen and points to a substance on the edge of Josh's wound.

"All his wounds have this substance in them. I will have to run some tests just to confirm my suspicions. I believe the wolf that attacked him had wolfsbane on his claws. The wolfsbane prevented the wounds from healing and that is why they were not able to stop the bleeding and once the wolfsbane reached his heart it caused his heart to stop."

We look at Josh again and see the substance in all the wounds. "How long will the test take to confirm your suspicions?" I ask looking back at Dr. Malcom.

"It will take me about an hour to run the test and confirm if it's wolfsbane, but I will need a day to determine what type of wolfsbane it is." Malcom says and starts to get supplies to take a sample of the substance.

"Thank you doctor, let me know as soon as you have the results. I want to hold a pack meeting before the rumors start panic."

Mason and I walk back out of the morgue to the pack house. When I start thinking out loud, "This is the first time they have used poison in their attacks. I think the first attacks were just to test us and see our weaknesses. But this last attack was with the purpose to kill and I believe they were trying to kill you because of the information you shared with us." I say looking at Mason.

"Do you think they might try to come after me again?"

"I am not sure, but just to be safe, I will send some of my warriors with you tomorrow to make sure you make it back safely to your pack."

"Thank you. I am going back to my room to call my beta to tell him everything we know so far so they can prepare for in case they decide to go after my pack. I will be leaving first thing tomorrow as soon as Oliver get back."

"I understand. I am just waiting for the doctor to run his tests and confirm that it is wolfsbane then I will have a pack meeting too."

Mason nods and walks off to his room in the pack house to warn his pack about the possibility of an attack.

I go back to my office as well to try and get some more work done. About an hour later, I hear doctor Malcolm's voice in my head. "The test has just confirmed it, the substance in the wounds is wolfsbane."

I mind link the doctor back. "Thank you doctor, I will have the pack meeting in half an hour. Keep running the tests to see if you can identify the wolfsbane they used."

I end the mind link with doctor Malcom. Then I send out a mind link to the entire pack to gather in front of the pack house in half an hours time. I mind link Aiden and Mark to meet me in my office so we can discuss what the autopsy revealed. After a minute or two Aiden and Mark walk into my office.

I start explaining immediately. "Doctor Malcom has confirmed that they used wolfsbane in the attack and that is what stopped Josh's heart and why he was not able to heal. He is running some more tests to see if he can identify the type of wolfsbane they used."

Aiden and Mark stare at me with shock written all over their faces. Aiden is the first one to speak up, "So this time they attacked with the intention to kill."

"Yes but I believe their intended target was Mason not Josh."

Mark thinks about it and says, "Then there must be truth to the story he told us. Why else would they go after him?"

"Mason wants to leave tomorrow as soon as Oliver is discharged from the hospital. I said I would send some of the warriors with them to make sure they make it back safely. Now I want to have the pack meeting before the rumors start and the pack goes into a panic."

Mark and Aiden both voice their agreement and we walk out to the front of the pack house to start the meeting. When we walk out, silence falls over the entire pack. I walk over and start the meeting.

"Thank you all for coming. I am sure you all want to know why I called you here today. As many of you know, there have been two attacks on our pack and two days ago Alpha Mason was attacked leaving our land. One of Mason's pack members was killed in the attack. They used wolfsbane to prevent him from healing. Now I know this sounds scary, but that is why I called you all here today. I don't want to start a panic, but you deserve to know what is happening. We finally have a few leads to follow and we are working hard to put an end to this. But until we do, I want to ask you all to be careful and keep an eye out for anything suspicious. We have also decided to double our border patrol by sending out teams of two. If anyone has questions or information, my doors are open."

I dismiss the pack and everyone goes their own way. As they walk away you can hear the murmurs as they all discuss what I had just told them.
