Chapter 6

Drake's Pov

We are standing in front of the pack house still in shock after what Mason has told us. When I see Mark's eyes glaze over from a mind link. Mark looks even more shocked when he looks at me again.

"What's wrong Mark?"

"Just as Mason was leaving our pack borders they were attacked."

Without saying anything else, we all shift and start running in the direction of the attack. When we arrive there are still five wolves attacking Mason and his men. Mason is putting on a good fight but they were ambushed and the fight seems to be going down hill fast. Mark goes after the first wolf closest to us when we arrive and Aiden also joins the fight. I see a wolf stalking Mason from behind. I tackle the wolf just as it jumps to attack Mason from behind. We slam into the ground, roll a few times and get back to our feet and growl at each other. The wolf bares his teeth at me and growls before charging at me again. I wait until the last minute to step to the side and swipe at his side, leaving five deep cuts on his ribs as intended. The wolf whines and looks around and takes off. I look up to see that all the wolves are retreating.

I mind link Mark to take 2 wolves and follow them and I tell Aiden to stay with me and help Mason and his men. Both Aiden and I shift back to human form at the same time. I walk over to Mason who has also shifted back to his human form. We both walk to Mason's men who were injured in the attack.

Mason looks at me and says. "He is still alive but he has some very serious injuries. We need to get him to a doctor."

I bent down to inspect the other man's injuries. "He is still alive but barely. I have mind liked someone from my pack to bring vehicles so we can take them to the hospital, they should be here any minute now. Aiden you stay here with the men that are already healed and make arrangements for Mason and them to stay the night at the pack house."

The words barely leave my lips and then the vehicles show up. We load the two severely injured men into the van and take off to the hospital in Cape Point. Once we get in the van we find clothes for me and Mason to put on. I look over at Mason after putting on some clothes.

"How are your injuries?"

"Nothing to bad most of them have already healed."

I nod my head. "That's good news. What exactly happened?"

Mason looks deep in thought as if reliving the attack before he answers. "We were driving back home nothing unusual and then one of those wolves ran into the Jeep forcing us to stop. When we got out of the Jeep the ten wolves already surrounded us. Our feet were barely on the ground before they attacked. But five of them just ran past us while the other five attacked from behind I think the other five were just to distract us." Mason says thinking back to the attack.

I replay his words over in my head a few times before I look at him again. "This is the worst attack yet and with more wolves. The first attack was only two wolves but they did not really hurt my warrior. I think they were scouting and he stumbled onto them and they just chased him away. The second attack was five wolves and they targeted my warrior and jumped on him from behind too. They seem to favor attacking from behind like real cowards." I add the last part more as a thought to myself.

Mason thinks about it and answers. "They seem to appear out of nowhere from your land too, but my biggest concern is how did they know I was here and why did they target me. So far they have only attacked your pack members and they waited until they were alone."

"There must be more truth to your mother's ghost stories than we realized. The stories you told are the first lead we have found since the attacks started. Maybe their orders were to take you out before we could figure out how or why your mother's ghost stories came to live."

"I can ask my sister or uncle if they remember more from the stories. I did not really pay too much attention to the stories, I thought my mother was only trying to scare me into behaving."

"If we could get more information that would help alot, but you were attacked because you knew to much. I don't want to put anyone else at risk or in danger so if they know anything we should keep it under wraps."

Mason only nods his head in agreement. We pull up in front of the hospital, there are already nurses waiting outside with two beds when we open the van doors. We put the two injured men on the two injured men on the beds and roll them into the hospital. When we enter the hospital I see Nicole waiting with Dr. Owens. They take the warrior who is barely alive and roll him into a room while Nicole starts accessing his injuries and determines what they need to do to save him. Dr. Kane takes the other warrior and rolls him into a room too.

Both men get rolled away into different rooms to try and save them. After a while, Dr. Kane comes walking out of the room and walks straight to me and Mason."I was able to stabilize him. He is still sedated but his healing is starting to improve. I will take him over to the VIP wing now." Then he looks over both me and Mason and asks. "Do you two have any injuries that need to be looked at?"

Mason and I answer simultaneously. " No, I am fine."

"That's good news." He says and walks back to the nurses and points to the room where the warrior is.

Some of the nurses walk to the room and they take him to the VIP wing. One of the nurses walks over to us and points towards a waiting area with seats. "You can sit over there while you wait for an update on the other patient." She says and walks back to the computer.

I nod for Mason to follow me so we can get out of their way and wait in the waiting room. We sit down for a few moments when Mason get back up and starts pacing.

"I hate this waiting and not being able to help or do anything." Mason suddenly says.

"Yes I am not a fan of this part either."

"Why is this taking so long his healing should have kicked in by now."

Just as I want to answer Mason Nicole and Dr. Owens enters the room. Owens walks over to Mason and says. "I am so sorry for your loss. We did everything we could but he lost too much blood already and we were not able to stop the bleeding."

Mason goes pale but nod his head and says. "I understand thank you doctor."

I look over at Nicole and see her white coat covered in blood. She just keeps looking down at the floor. I walk over to her.

"Are you alright?"

She looks up at me half in shock and says. "Yes this is just my first patient that I could not save."

"I am sure you did everything you could. You won't be able to save everyone that comes through that door."

"I should be the one comforting you, you knew him."

"Not really, he is more a friend of a friend."

Dr. Owens and Mason are done talking and he gestures for Nicole to follow him.

"Sorry I have to go." Nicole says and walks after him.

I turn back to Mason who is already walking towards me. "Can we take him back to your pack doctor for an autopsy? He should have healed. They must have done something to him."

"Yes of course. I will arrange with Dr. Kane to have his body sent over to my pack hospital."
