Chapter 4

1531 Words
Drake's Pov I wake up early from a restless sleep, my mind keeps wondering back to Nicole. I get out of bed and decide to go for a run to clear my mind. Even as I run through the forest, I keep thinking about Nicole and how she blushed when Abby told us what she had said about me, the way she laughs. I shake my head and run even faster to get rid of my thoughts. After my run I go back to the pack house to take a shower. I mind link Aiden to come to my office. Aiden walks into my office and sits down in the chair in front of my desk. "Last night was fun, exactly what we needed." Aiden says smirking. "So why do you look like a pup with a sore paw?" "What do you know about your sister's roommate?" I ask bluntly. "Oohh I get it now. This mood is about Nichole."Aiden mocks. I give Aiden a look that shows I might just punch him if he does not stop screwing around with me. "Gees man calm down. I don't know much about her other than the fact that she is human. Abby met her on their first day in college and they have been best friends ever since then. I have only spoken to her a couple of times when she was there when I visited Abby. I noticed you seemed very interested in her since you met her." "Are you sure she is human? There is something about her scent and about her that triggers my wolf. And every time she laughs or looks at me, my wolf goes crazy." "I have met her parents. They are human too, but it was only briefly. I can ask Abby if she knows more, but I doubt it." Aiden shrugs. "Does she know about us or Abby since she is Abby's best friend?" "No never." Aiden answers, as if the question offended him. "Since Abby has not triggered her curse yet and I avoid the subject when she is near there is no way she had any idea." "She intrigues me and drives my wolf crazy. I would like to learn more about her. Can you get her number from Abby for me?" "Sure I will ask Abby for her number." Aiden says, but just keeps sitting in the chair. I stare at Aiden waiting for him to text or call his sister so he can get the number. Aiden notices me staring and pulls out his phone. "Ooh you mean like right now." Aiden starts typing on his phone. "I texted Abby asking her for Nicole's number. You know when you asked me to meet you in your office I just assumed it would be about yesterday's attack from the urgency in your voice." Aiden says shaking his head at me. "Of course yesterday's attack is our top priority that is why I wanted to get this out of the way so I can focus on getting to the bottom of these attacks." I say looking at my friend like it is the most logical thing ever. "I might have some good news on that front. I sent out word to some of our neighboring packs yesterday and alpha Mason from the Crescent Moon pack says he remembers something similar from when he was younger. He has arranged to be here this afternoon to tell us what he remembers." "That is great news, we might have just finally found the missing piece of the puzzle. "Thank you, Aiden, I knew I picked you to be my beta for a reason." I joke but feel really grateful for my beta at the moment. "Yes well you would be lost without me. Now if that is all we still have a pack to run." Aiden says while he stands up and starts walking towards the office door. "Mark has been assisting Mason in his travel arrangements. He will let us know as soon as Mason arrives." Aiden says, and walks out the door to get started on his duties for the day. I follow Aiden's example and start on my mountain of paperwork. About an hour later and I am so focused on my work that I almost don't hear my phone go off. I put down the paper in my hand to see why someone is trying to reach me on my phone. When I pick up my phone I see there are two messages from Aiden the first one is Nicole's contact information and the second one reads "Good luck lover boy." I chuckle and starts typing a message for Nicole. "Hi, this is Drake. I hope you don't mind but I got your number from Aiden who got it from Abby. I really enjoyed meeting you yesterday, I was hoping you would go to the beach party with me on Friday." I type and re-read it twice before hitting send. With my concentration broken I decide to go check in on the warriors training to see which team won the previous day and what training they decided on for today. I leave my paperwork work and walk out of the pack house towards the training grounds. When I reach the training grounds I see four arenas with two wolves in each fighting. I walk over to Mark who is standing in the middle of the four arenas observing the fights. "Hi Mark, which team won yesterday's training?" I ask while looking at the different wolves fight. Mark looks at me. "That would be the red team and they decided on fighting in wolf form until we are left with the top four fighters so they can become our new team leaders." "That's a great way to motivate them to bring their A game. Any word on when Mason will arrive?" I ask looking at Mark. "He should be here in about an hour." Mark and I stay and watch the warriors fight. They are almost down to the top four warriors when Mark's eyes go blank. "Alpha Mason is here." Mark says looking at me and gesturing for us to walk back to the pack house. We reach the pack house at the same time as a pitch black Jeep. Alpha Mason gets out of the Jeep and walks up to us. "Good day Drake, Aiden and Mark it's nice to see you again." "Hello Mason it's nice to see you too, thank you for coming on such short notice. Let's go to my office and talk." I say and signal for them to follow me to my office. We go to my office and sit down at the seating area. "Aiden said you remember something about the mark in the paw prints we found." I say looking at Mason. "I don't know if this will help, but I remember these ghost stories my mother used to tell me when I was younger. I believed them to be only ghost stories until now. She used to tell me about a pack of bastared, disgraced or outcast alphas. They would go after the people and packs they feel had wronged them. Because they were all wolves with alpha blood they had to cut their right hand with a silver blade to pledge their allegiance to their leader. He was the worst of all, he used to be the alpha of a peaceful but very strong pack far up north until he got power hungry and started attacking surrounding packs to gain land and numbers. His own son fought him, took his place as alpha and exiled him from the pack. Outraged by his own son's betrayal, he sought after wolves with alpha blood to create his own unstoppable pack." Mason tells us the story. "It does sound like a fairytale, why do you believe the stories to be true now?" I ask Mason. "My mother's best friend was mated to the alpha of the Gray Mountain pack up north and about twenty-four years ago their pack was attacked and the entire pack disappeared from the face of the earth and all the evidence that was left were paw prints with a scare in them. But now that the prints have reappeared, it can't be just a ghost story to keep me inline." Mason says clenching his jaw. Aiden, Mark and I all just stare at Mason too stunned about the story to say anything. I am the first to break the silence. "But why would they resurface now after all these years and why so far south?" "I really don't know I just remember the stories my mother used to tell. I am sorry I can't be of more assistance." Mason says looking at me. "No thanks for coming all this way to tell us. This is the first lead we have about these wolves." "I should be getting back to my pack now. I only came to tell you about the story in person." Mason says as he stands to leave. We all walk Mason out and watched him drive off, still too stunted about the story to do or say anything.
