Scarlet bit down on her lower lip, her gaze locked with lively screen of her smartphone. She tapped her thumb against the screen moving forward her rook only to be eaten by the computer’s bishop.
“For crying out loud can’t you just let me win!” she frustratingly groaned as the visible pop up appeared indicating she had lost the game.
She did not have the strategy to play chess, considering she lost all her pieces staring with the queen — that rook had been her way to victory, so she thought but the computer proved otherwise.
She had only been left with the king, rendering her to lose, eventually.
Just as the girl was about to start a new game selecting the easy mode, the doors swung open to her office.
“Have you seen the news?” Jayson rushed in, his phone in hand and the expression on his face indicating whatever he wanted to say, was not easy.
Shaking her head she placed her phone face down on the desk, hiding all evidence of her playing around.
“Nop, I don’t so. Should I?”
“Look at that!” he handed over his phone, more like shoved it into her face.
She slipped it out his hands bringing it in hers and a few more inches away from her face.
“What is it?”
She hadn’t even needed Jayson to explain anything, as the big bold black letters of articles caught her attention.
‘Is our possible youngest Blackwell child sleeping around with the CEO of Passion? A married woman.’
The first on read. Studying the picture used she scoffed at how information carved the media was.
It had been not so long ago, yesterday in fact just her and Chiara getting into the car from the car park of the restaurant. They weren’t even touching or close, just Scarlet smiling at the thought of taking the birthday woman skydiving — and of course Chiara confused but following willingly.
Yesterday was a unexpected turn of events and possibly a new start, but definitely not all good came from it.
Tapping her index finger against the screen she left the pervious article Jayson opened, did not even bother to read the rest — it was crap.
Scrolling through the brought up results she read through the titles, and the updates hadn’t been long ago. Just 12 hours ago.
‘Scarlet Blackwell seen in public after months of hiding from the spotlight....’
‘Scarlet Blackwell go on a date with married women. A possible affair?’
She slammed her left hand against the desk immediately loosing interest in the rest of the titles. “For f***s sake my surname is Wilson, damn it!” she hissed shoving Jayson’s phone back to him.
She could not be serious right now, but she seemed she was.
“Who cares? this isn’t good!” he shot back slipping his phone in his pocket.
“Well I care, it is my freaking name.”
Jayson stared at her a bit before pinching the bridge of his nose, softly sighing. “Why aren’t you freaked out?”
Her first response being a shrug, she pursed her lips before speaking on the matter. “First it is total bullshit, they just want to get a response from my end considering I have been missing in action for a while. Plus the Andrew scandal — they want to drag me into it.”
“Scarlet—”
“Jayson, the media knows Lexical and Passion are business partners now. I am the CEO and so is she, it is inevitable we would have a lunch to discuss ‘business’ shit.”
Scarlet visibly saw Jayson bite down his tongue, swallowing down earlier response.
Nodding his head he hummed. “So your scandal is to fuel your uncl— I mean Andrew’s scandal.” he quickly corrected himself.
She ignored his slip of the tongue and have him two thumbs up.
“Bring more money in their pockets of course, they live for gossip, rumors and lies.”
“We do nothing?” he asked trying to gain clarity.
“You mean retaliate like they want me to? We ain’t doing shit.” Scarlet respond a big wide smile on her face.
“What if your family calls and demand answers.”
“I answer of course and today being Friday, I was heading to them.”
Jayson clicked his tongue as both his eyebrows rose toward her questionably, he knew she wasn’t going to answer them truthful — most.
“Okay then I’ll be heading out, let you get back to work.” he mumbled pointing at her phone.
She had almost forgot her game, picking up her phone she unlocked it. “I was playing a game and you know that.” she spoke staring at the screen rather than Jayson.
“I know, just wanted it to sound like you work around here.”
Scarlet looked up, holding eye contact with her friend. “You are always scrolling through Twitter when I come to your office — I should be asking you if you work.”
“Of course I do!”
“How did you find out about the so called scandal of mine?” she asked tilting her head to the side.
“I was scrolling through Twitter and I saw an article—” he trailed off as he caught Scarlet smirk, he blew his own cover. Jayson smiled brightly and slowly began to back away. “Oh you know what best friend? You do and I do me, sounds great right? Yeah bye.”
With that he ran out the door as fast as he could, only left Scarlet alone smirking — he could hold nothing against her, never.
