Chapter 6

When they reached the Quinn residence, it was already pitch black. Xavier hurried inside so that he could talk to his father and leave as soon as possible. He did not want to leave Alexander alone for a long time. As he got inside, he found his father sitting at the dining area along with his mother eating. He did not even take a sit but he stood there and said, “Father, mother, I will not marry Alice and I will not be coming home anymore. I am happy where I am. I am leaving now that there is nothing left to say.” With that said Xavier turned his back and began walking away. “Stop right there Xavier!” His father thundered like a storm ready to destroy everything in its path. “How dare you talk to me like that? Who do you think you are? Remember, you are my son and you will do whatever I tell you.” His father was fuming with anger. Even Penelope did not know what to do. All she could do was stare at Alfred hoping to get his attention so that he would stop what he was doing. They have agreed that they will have a calm conversation with Xavier and come up with a solution that will make both of them happy. She did not know what was wrong with Alfred now that he was shouting like a crazy man. She could not take it anymore. “Enough, both of you. Alfred you are behaving like a child. This is not what we agreed on.” She roared like a lioness she was tired of his husbands’ behavior. “Your son was the one who came here and showed me attitude. What was I supposed to do?” “Anything but act like a teenage boy. Xavier please take a sit. Please my boy.” Xavier took a sit next to his mother and said, “Please make it quick. Alexander is alone and it is dark outside. I told him to wait for me.” His father huffed at his words and looked away not saying anything. “Darling, Alice is a nice girl and she likes you very much. I’m sure you will also like her once you get to know her. Please give her a chance.” Penelope said in a pleading voice. “Mother I already have someone I love and wish to marry.” Everyone in the room was surprised by what Xavier said. Even his father turned his head and looked at him. The silent Ellen who stood by the entrance of the dining area shifted a little so that he can hear well. “Well then why didn’t you say so? Ha ha ha bring the girl here. We also want to meet her. This is great news my love, isn’t it?” Alfred said joyfully to his wife. He did not know that his son had an entanglement with a woman. He barely met with women. This was delightful news to him. Even Penelope was happy about this. She actually did not want his son to be married to someone they have arranged for him. She wanted her son to have a love marriage like her and Alfred. “I’m in love with a man.” Those words were not expected by anyone. Alfred’s wide smile was quickly replaced by a thin line and a frown. Penelope looked like her soul just left her body. Things went from joyous to what in the world very quickly. “What?” Penelope asked, hoping that she had heard wrong but deep inside her she knew the truth cannot be changed. “I said I am in love with a man, not a women. He is the only person I want to …” Xavier was cut off by his father before he could finish what he wanted to say. The rage in his voice could bring down mountains as he said, “No son of mine will love another man! It is that boy am I right? Am I right?” “Stop asking me like I am going to deny it or like I am going to chicken away.” Xavier said calmly. He did not want to fight with his father at the moment. He was only worried that Alexander was still waiting for him. His mother’s shout brought him back to life as she shouted, “This is unacceptable Xavier. A man cannot love another man. That is not how things work my dear. You …” “Certainly I am not your dear if you cannot accept me for who I am mother. I …” “This is ridiculous, utterly ridiculous.” Alfred said. “You are going to marry a woman, you hear me? And that woman will be Alice. Whether you like it or not you will marry her and before the month ends. Only 20 days left for your wedding. That boy of yours, I will deal with him personally” “Father I dare you to touch him.” “Dare it is then. I am a man of my words and I promise today will be the last day you  see that boy.” With that said, Xavier jolted out his chair. He stood up and said with a clenched jaw, “Father if you do anything to Alexander you will lose a son.” “A son? How dare you call yourself a son? What prank are you pulling Xavier?” Penelope said in rage. Xavier looked at her and only said Mother before he ran out of the house. “Ellen get him. Bring him back here. Kill anything in your path. Bring him back here now!” Alfred shouted in rage as he ordered his son to be brought back. Xavier ran at a lights speed towards the exit of the town. He could see his father’s men catching up to him with their horses. As he approached the little hut, he could see the lights still on. He released a breath of relieve as he hoped Alexander was safe. “Alex! Alex where are you? We have to leave quickly!” Xavier shouted and received no answer he looked around and could not find Alexander. He started to panic as he thought of his father’s words. Did his father do something? The horses quickly reached the hut. Xavier who was on the verge of crying went to Ellen and asked in the most pitiful, worried voice a person can imagine, “Ellen what did father do? Where is Alexander?” Xavier held both Ellen’s hands as he continued, “Ellen please.” Just as he said that, Xavier busted into tears thinking of the worst case scenario. He could not leave without Alexander. He still wanted to tell him that he had loved him ever since he turned ten years old. He still wanted to hold him close. How can his father be so heartless? “Ellen please. Tell me where he is. I beg you.” Xavier said crying like a baby. Ellen has never thought that he would see him cry like this. The last time Xavier cried was when he was still a baby. He felt very sorry for him. He also did not know where Alexander had gone. “You need to come with us to personally ask your father because I don’t know where he is. Trust me if I knew I would tell you, but I honestly don’t know.” Ellen said to him trying to get him up on his feet. A helpless Xavier stood up as his thoughts ran wild not even aware of his actions. He was totally blank and out of his senses.
