Chapter 4

For a moment he did not know what to do. He could not let the only person who understood him die. He had been standing for almost an hour with Alexander in his arms thinking of a solution when he heard him cough. He quickly raised him higher and called his name. “Alex, Alex wake up. Wake up Alex it’s me Xavier.” Xavier said trying to sound as calm as he could but doomed to fail. Alexander slowly opened his eyes and looked at his friend. Xavier picked the char lying on the floor and made Alexander stand on it. As Alexander wiggled on the chair as he was still feeling light headed, he fell again luckily Xavier came back on time with the knife and cut the rope that was around yet again the unconscious Alexander. He laid him on the bed as went to bring water and some food. While he was at the kitchen he saw that most of the food in there was rotten meaning that Alexander has not been eating well. He again waited for him to wake up. As soon as he was awake, he gave him some water and began feeding him the soup he made. He knew that they were not going to fight over the soup as Alexander loved the soup he made. He remembered the first day he made it for him. At that time his mother went to the nearby town, Hills, to sell her crops. She had been gone for only two hours and Alexander was complaining. “How long will she take already? I am hungry. Does she want me to die of hunger? When she comes back I’m going to give her a piece of my mind. How dare she leaves her son to die of hunger? Xavier if I die, know that my own mother is responsible. It is so sad to think that my own mother killed me,” he said as he held Xavier’s hands into his and carried on acting like a six years old child.  Xavier smiled at the memory leaving Alexander surprised. He has never seen him smile so openly before. “I wonder what it is that you are thinking about that makes you smile like this. Are you thinking about your lady?” he said as he got up taking the soup from Xavier’s hands and continued eating it. Xavier did not bother to answer his question instead he asked, “Why have you not been taking care of yourself? Do you know how worried I was? How scared I was when I found you hanging from the ceiling? How can you act so impulsively? Do you not care about my feelings even one bit?” Xavier tried to sound as calm as he could but the anger in his voice was visible and made Alexander feel bad about himself. Tears feel down from his eyes as Xavier scolded him. As he saw this, Xavier released a sigh and embraced his friend. “Do not ever do something like this. I would be devastated if I lost you Alex.” Xavier whispered into his ear as he continued to embrace him. “Xavier, you, you called me…What did you just call me? You have never called me like that before. I like it. From now on call me like that, okay?” Alexander said as he broke the hug. “No.” “Why not? I think it sounds lovely. Only you can address me like this and whenever I hear this I would know it is you. I have never seen you like this. It turned out you are not emotionless and quiet after all. You do love me, don’t you? Ha ha ha” Xavier shook his head and looked at his crazy friend who kept on talking nonstop forgetting about everything.   They were staying together for the past few days. Alexander seemed to have completely healed and was back to his joyous usual self. They were doing some household chores when Xavier saw Ellen coming from a distance with a few men. Not knowing what they wanted, he could not take chances. He quickly pushed Alexander inside the house and told him to stay inside. A confused Alexander could not do anything except listen to what Xavier told him. Xavier took out his sword and turned to the men coming towards him ready to attack and protect his friend.
