CHAPTER 3

Morning came very fast. When Xavier woke up, he freshened up and looked for Alexander. He found that Alexander was nowhere to be seen. He looked for him at the lake and couldn’t find him. He also searched for him in the forest as he thought he might be in some tall tree waiting to jump but he did not find him there either. He could not leave just like that. He still needed to talk to him hence he decided to wait for him. The lady saw Xavier waiting. She knew that Alexander was not going to show his face to him today. “Xavier I think you should leave. Alexander woke up very early today I don’t know where he is as well. Your parents might be worried about you. Go home and return later and maybe by that time Alexander would have returned from wherever he is.” The lady said politely. Xavier did not say anything but he only nodded and stood from where he was seated and headed home. When he reached, he went straight to the dining area and sat on one of the chairs and waited for his parents to join him. Neither of his parents said anything. They did not even question his whereabouts. He could see the worry in his mother’s eyes and her disorientation.

In the middle of their breakfast suddenly Ellen walked in, his sword

Was covered in almost unnoticeable blood but Xavier saw it. Ellen greeted his master and whispered in his ear. Right after he finished Xavier dropped his spoon on the ground and he looked at his father. Of course Ellen did not know about Xavier’s perfect hearing. Even though he whispered softly Xavier could still hear him. Xavier shot up his chair and ran towards the door leaving everyone scared and worried. Lady Penelope busted into tears. He looked at her husband with the I told you so look and yelled, “Are you happy now? Is your ego alright? If it is fine then please attend to your one and only son.” Although Sir Alfred was angry he knew that he messed up and he might lose the apple of his eye. His son meant everything to him. He almost gave up on kids as his wife kept on having miscarriages. He remembered the first time he held his son in his hands. He had promised to keep him happy no matter what, but right now he felt as a failure, but because of his ego he was not going to accept defeat.

He walked out the dining area to his room leaving his wife alone.

As Xavier ran he thought about what Ellen said. He couldn’t bear to see Alexander like that. Was he even still alive? As he got close to the hut he could hear Alexander cry out loud. His heart sank as he heard him cry hopelessly. He ran towards him and saw that the Lady was gone. She had been stabbed through the heart. Alexander was fine. He reached out to him. As soon as he touched Alexander, his hand was swung violently by Alexander. Alexander had his lifeless mother lying on his lap as he cried his eyes out. He did not want anyone. He only wanted his mother. “Alexander I …” Xavier was cut off by Alexander “stop it! Leave me alone I don’t want to talk to you. Go back to your father and tell him you will never see me again. Why?” Alexander shouted as he stood up from the ground his face was covered in sweat and tears. His hands were covered by his mother’s blood and he kept on choking on his saliva as he struggled to talk while crying. Xavier wanted to embrace him and tell him he was not going anywhere but he couldn’t. Alexander continued to speak as he cried “why did you come to my life? Why didn’t you just agree to get married and leave me alone? It wouldn’t have been the first time someone left me. My father also left me and my mother. I would have gotten over you and carried on with my life with my mother but no, you decided to go against your father. That is why my mother was killed, isn’t it? If I was here I would have died as well, am I right? Answer me. Please go away from here.” Xavier was hurt by what Alexander said but he understood his emotions. He never intended for him to get hurt. He just didn’t want to lose him. He was saddened to see Alexander push him away like that. His intentions were well. He was also angry that his father took such a step. Xavier was brought back to reality by Alexander who pushed him as he shouted “I said go away”. He did not know what to do.

Alexander has asked him to leave him alone but he could not leave him. He did not want to go back to his house. If he went back he would destroy everything. Just to let Alexander calm down he went to stay in the nearby motel as he waited for Alexander to recover.

Days passed and Xavier did not return home. He secretly looked after Alexander and waited for him to recover. He would see him some days looking miserable and some days he would look like a person who was recovering. One day Xavier was doing his daily routine of looking after him when he suddenly heard a loud bang coming from the hut. He rushed over to see what has happened. As he came inside his eyes widened as he saw Alexander hanging in front of him. As fast as lighting, Xavier held Alexander higher so that the rope will not tighten further and tried to untie the knot but he couldn’t. he did not have anything to cut the rope with as well and there was nothing near he could use. The only weapon there was, was a knife in the other room but he was afraid to let Alexander go and what was worse was that Alexander was out cold.
