Love is War

Chapter 6

I was astonished at how the Shinigami reacted on my blood, I don’t know if I find it funny or pitiful. The amount of shock confused me; I was left there standing in the alley while I watch the car quickly disappear in my sight.

“Hey,” I heard Alexis called on me and I was taken aback to reality really quick. I shake my head and slap both of my cheeks to check that I am not dreaming from what I witnessed earlier. “Did you take them down?” she asked me and I shook my head.

“But I learned something interesting,” I said to her smiling. He is that vulnerable, I didn’t expect that from him. Imagine the great Shinigami crying just seeing my blood, I burst out of laughter just by thinking that. I don’t know that my rival is such a little child. For now, I will just keep it a secret, I don’t want anyone will gang up on him taking advantage on his weakness. I don’t want my prey just being snatched up by others just like that. He is my enemy and I will finish this war that I started.

“What is it?” she asked, curious from what I said earlier. Sorry Alexis, I will keep it for myself for now until the day that I defeated him. For some reason I felt pity on myself. All this time I struggled fighting him, all the time I was frustrated every time he escapes my grasp, all that training that I spent just to defeat him was all for naught. I wish that I did not chase them earlier, I felt unmotivated to train now. One question pops out in my mind.

Am I this weak?

That’s the only question I can ask myself, I he could do all of that to me despite him being like that. That could only mean one thing, I’m not strong enough to defeat him. The fire of motivation was lit again inside my heart. I can only do one thing now. It’s to train harder.

I guess he is that strong, what am I thinking? I always contradict myself that quick. Sheesh. Well, we need to go back to the headquarters fast, I am pretty sure that daddy is pretty pissed off right now.  I looked back to Alexis and I told her to come with me back to the headquarters.

The whole time I was walking, I can’t get off my head thinking about what happened earlier. Is it okay to defeat him in that state, in case it happens in our final fight? Can I call that a victory? I asked myself with those questions over and over again. That will remain unanswered until the time comes, I will find the answers when I am facing him triumphant.

We reached the wrecked front gates, and I saw many of my men dead, crushed and some are dead with bullets in their heads. I’m sure that this is the doing of the Shinigami. Another question pops out of my head. How can he do all of these when he is afraid of blood? How can he kill this many people? He sure is mysterious in my point of view. I will find the answers soon to satiate my curiosity.

I don’t know what their intention is but it seems important from the looks of the damage that they have dealt to us. I started to feel worry to our people because my dad is terrifying when he is mad and promise, you don’t want to see dad angry. He is not called ruthless just for nothing. Dad is so hot headed that he even killed his men in front of me sometimes when they fail such important tasks. I felt sorry for them because they are not aware that their death will come to them sooner that they expected it to be.

We walked inside and we went to the meeting hall only to find no one inside.

I looked around the place and a minimal movement caught my attention. I saw one of our men stepping out of the small room inside the meeting room. He is injured and it seems that he hid himself inside there during the battle. I scanned his hand and saw that he is covering a gunshot in his waist. Alexis and I immediately went to his aid. We assisted him so he can move and we put him down on a chair.

“What happened here?” I asked worried and I can tell that he is having a hard time breathing and his movements are very minimal to save energy. “Alexis!” I called on her immediately, because I forgot that he is losing blood. “Call a medic here ASAP!” I shouted.

“I already did air head,” she said and I felt relieve.

“I’m sorry,” apologizing is what I heard from him. “I couldn’t fulfill my duty, I’m sorry that I chickened out,” he apologized again and I started to worry for him. “Please!” he grabbed the bottom of my shirt and I was very surprised. “Don’t let your father kill me,” he begged. Oh, that’s why he is so paranoid.

“Don’t worry, I got you,” I reassured him. “For now, rest and conserve your energy because if you don’t, you will die from blood loss,” I scared him and he released my shirt and he rest his body on the chair. He is in so much pain, and I will not question him anymore. I will just ask dad myself; I don’t want him stacking another grave sin to himself, besides dad has a soft spot for his daughters.

“Where is dad?” I asked him one last question.

“He was escorted back to your home i-,” he coughed blood. “Immediately when the a- alarm went on,” he said and I shushed him after that.

“That is all I need to know,” I told him and I went straight to door that will lead us outside here. Alexis followed me and I stopped to check on our guy whose name I do not know. “Wait here, the medic should be arriving soon,” I reminded him and he smiled.

“Thank you madame,” he said and I just winked at him. We head outside and our car is parked where the Shinigami is sniping earlier. Not exactly in that place but near that place.

“We head home now,” I told Alexis.

“Okay,” she replied coldly. I pinched her cheeks but she has no reaction.

“Why are you so cold to me?” I asked her like a child and she just points her eyes at me before turning it back straight. I pouted because of her interaction with me. We walked quietly until we reach the car, since I don’t have any topic that we can talk about properly. Since this is my Montero car, I will drive. She sat down in the passenger’s seat and I started the engine and revs it up. Then we started our drive to our home.

It took us 2 hours to reach the house since the incident causes a lot of traffic on the road. Well since there are no important matters, I just vibe on the music that I played in the radio. Music calms my mind sometimes and if an apocalypse breaks out, as long as there is music, I will not get bored. Such a powerful thing. It has the power to change people, if only this can change my dad’s short temperedness.

“DAD!” I yelled calling to him as soon as I stepped inside the house. No response. “Dad, it’s Nova, where are you?” I called to him again but still no response. Alexis remained at the door while I climbed the stairs to go to dad’s room. I knocked when I reached the door of his room. It’s two big premium wooden doors shines and its gold doorknob will let anyone know that the owner put a lot of money on his house. I knocked again when I heard no response. “Dad its me Nova,” I told him loud enough to hear me on the other side of the door. I put my ears against the door to hear him.

“Come in,” I heard a whisper on the other side. I just barely heard it and if I did not put my ear against that door earlier. I’m sure that I will not hear his whisper. I grabbed the door knob and turned it to open the door. I just slightly opened to peek inside first and I saw that he is already staring at my direction with no emotion. Dad is really angry right now. I am glad that I came here immediately because who knows what can he do. He is easily blinded by anger.

I walked slowly towards him looking as sweet as I can be as his daughter. “Dad,” I sounded like a little child and inside me I am screaming and I wanted to kill myself. “Don’t be mad, I’m sure that we can take our revenge,” I said maintaining my sweet voice. I saw him relaxing a bit and I’m glad that my plan is working well.

“We have taken a lot of damage and we just killed a few members of their group,” he said disappointed. “The Yoshidas will pay for what have they done to us,” he said and his phone rang out of nowhere. “Wait here daughter,” he said and stands up and went for the balcony to answer the phone. “Hello there my friend,” I heard him greet the one on the phone so cheerfully and I paid no attention to it.

I walked outside the room and have their talk without distraction.
