Chapter 7

Nebula had a few doctor friends and there was one among them who she felt really close to. Karlene Argent was a young doctor around the same age as Nebula and the two of them grew very close during one of Nebula's travels. They met at the market and talked for hours while drinking tea, immediately feeling close. Nebula rarely got sick but every time she did, she would only go to Karlene. She had full trust in her person and had nothing to hide from her. Therefore when she went to the doctor to do a check up, it was Karlene that Nebula went to see. As soon as Karlene saw her friend walk in, she jumped up. Nebula only came to her when she was dying, she thought that once again there was something really wrong with her.

"Sit down here, come.'

Seeing her friend all panicked, Nebula didn't understand what was going on. She just sat down without saying anything and watched Karlene come back to her with a tiny shining stone.

"Open wide."

Nebula shook her head:

"I am not sick."

Karlene didn't believe her knowing that Nebula never complained:

"Open it.

-Karlene, I really am fine.

-Yes, yes."

Karlene started feeling Nebula's throat to see if her lymph nodes were bigger than normal but feeling that everything was normal, Karlene started believing what Nebula was saying:

"I told you, I'm fine."

Karlene finally calmed down and sat back in her chair ready to listen to what Nebula had to say.

"I need a fertilization revelation test."

Karlene didn't hesitate a second and nodded before getting up to go to one side of the room and open a drawer where she had to bend down to look for a tiny white box. After taking out a round stone and a needle, she came back to Nebula who extended her arm without waiting to be asked to.

"Are you ready?"

Nebula nodded and after a quick sting they were done. Karlene wiped Nebula's arm before bringing the needle closer to the stone. If it turned fluorescent then it meant pregnancy, if it stayed white then it was negative. The two women stared at the stone in silence for ten seconds that felt like hours and as soon as Nebula was ready to sign, the stone changed colors. She was pregnant. Nebula really didn't have a second of peace in her life. How could this happen to her? Some couples struggled for years to have a child and she got pregnant both times immediately. After this she really needed to donate eggs. The couples who would get them would have a 100% chance of getting pregnant. This was all fun and jokes but Nebula thought she was going to faint. Seeing her all white Karlene bit her lower lip:

"I am so sorry. Are you okay? Do you want to talk about it?"

Nebula signed:

"It's okay. I just can't believe it. I get pregnant so easily. I always do everything right but it's never working. I even drank a potion."

Karlene immediately shook her head and grabbed Nebula's shoulders to force her to look at her:

"Stop right there. It is not your fault okay? It happens to a lot of people.

-I know. Moreover, the other person drank a potion too. I had no idea. It's a long story but I thought he really wanted a child. Why would he drink a potion? It's on him, not me."

The two girls started laughing, the mood getting a bit better.

"See? It is not your fault at all. Effect annulation happens to more people than you would think.

-Really?

-Yes. You would laugh if you heard about all the pregnancy stories I have heard. People don't always think of checking if the other person drank the potion and drink it themselves thinking that would be enough. We should really stop using that method. There are way better ones available on the market but they are not famous enough."

Nebula smiled:

"And people should work on their communication skills.

-Fair enough."

Karlene thought about what to say before asking slowly:

"Do you know what you are going to do?"

Nebula shrugged:

"I have no idea. I don't know what to do with these cells. I really wanted to have an abortion but something happened today and keeping this child would be an amazing revenge against Imeena and the Duke."

Karlene opened wide eyes.

"Did you have a fight with Imeena?"

Nebula signed again:

"I don't really want to talk about that. It's not more important than this. I know that revenge is not a good reason to have a child so I should abort it but because of my revenge plan I don't know if I really want to abort or if I just want to do it not to take revenge.

-You have a long time to make your decision. You don't have to decide today. Take some time for yourself. We could go drink tea together."

Nebual wasn't really in the mood for tea. With everything that happened just hours prior, she wanted to have a 24 hour sleep. However she knew that she wouldn't be able to sleep so she just nodded. After a week of thinking Nebula still didn't know what to do. She always did everything on an impulse but now it was different. Even when she had a hard time making a decision she would sleep on it and do what felt right but everything felt foggy now and it was driving her crazy. She finally decided to get an abortion and went back to Karlene but changed her mind once sitting there.

"Ah! I don't know what to do! I would be an amazing mom. I am more than ready. Well, we are never really ready but I am ready to learn. I have money, I have everything you need for a child but do I want one? I love children but do I want one right now? I'm sorry I'm rambling but I am so lost.

-Don't apologize. I am here for you. You can vent all you want but you are the only one who can take this decision.

-I know...

-Do you want to talk about the alfa who got you pregnant? Maybe talking about what happened could help you take a step back on things.

-You are just curious about what happened."

Karlene started laughing:

"I won't deny it. But it really helps some people."

Nebula thought about it for a second.

"What can I even say?"

Nebula started laughing thinking about how shocked Karlene would be when she learned about what happened. She trusted Karlene and knew she wouldn't tell anyone about this. Despite having helped so many people, Nebula couldn't ask a lot of them for help. Karlene was one of the only people that were there for her in hard times . Satin was one of the few too but she couldn't let her find out about the truth behind their first night. Therefore Nebula didn't cut corners and said things as they were. And just as she thought, Karlene almost fell off her chair.

"I'm sorry, what?"

Nebula laughed so hard that she had to hold her belly:

"Yes, I got pregnant with the crown princess' child. But she should never know. She thinks it was Imeena."

Karlene froze needing time to digest what she had heard:

"The crown princess and you.

-Yes.

-You two.

-Yes.

-You and Satin Serphent.

-Yes."

Nebula was very patient but thought that maybe things would get longer than expected and that maybe she should get a magazine. But just as she thought that, Karlene jumped up:

"Wait, the crown princess and you!

-Yes."

She fell back down in a thud:

"Wow... That's... A story I haven't heard yet.

-Yeah I know."

The second of surprise gone, anger came next:

"How dare they set this up? How could they do this? The Duke is a disgusting human being but your sister! After everything you did for her, how could she do this?"

Nebula just shrugged.

"I don't care."

But Karlene didn't listen to Nebula and hugged her close:

"I know that it hurts. You don't have to pretend."

Nebula wanted to smile but only tears came. She cried for a long time that day and seeing her friend sad, Karlene couldn't be held back:

"I'm going to beat them up. I don't care about my oath. I'll become a murderer without problem."

Nebula finally found her smile back and after a cookie, the two friends went back to the most important question. Seeing that Nebula couldn't make up her mind, Karlene decided to try something:

"If you want I know of a trick to choose.

-Tell me."

Karlene took out a piece of gold from her pocket which made Nebula frown. What was she going to do with that?

"If it's this side then it's abortion and if it's that one, you are keeping the baby."

Nebula didn't seem convinced but she had no other idea so why not? The doctor threw the gold and when she caught it she looked at the side and showed it to Nebula.

"How do you feel about this?

-Well... I'm disappointed.

-See? Now you know how you feel about it."

Nebula smiled:

"I like this. Thank you so much doc.

-Any time."

Once everything was sorted out, Nebula decided to leave the family for good. She gathered her things and left the abortion papers on her table before disappearing from the country.
