Chapter 8

Satin knew that Nebula wasn't going to stay in that room forever and that she was going to disappear first thing in the morning. But somewhere she had hoped that she tired her out enough during the night and that Nebula wouldn't be able to leave. Satin didn't sleep a wink and stared at Nebula the whole night but hearing a commotion outside she had to leave for a few minutes. She only left for a short amount of time but when she came back Nebula was already gone. Satin reminded herself that she needed to be patient and everything would work out well. She didn't want to rush things or scare Nebula away so she gave her some space. She told her spies to stop following Nebula for some days because she knew that if she knew where she was, she wouldn't be able to stay away from her. After 5 days she couldn't hold it anymore and finally sent someone to look for Nebula but they came back with bad news: Nebula was nowhere to be found. Satin thought that her heart had been pulled out. What did they mean she disappeared? Where was she? Did she leave? Why didn't she say bye? Did she go on another trip already? Did she hate it here so much? Or worse, did someone take her? Was she in danger? Satin felt her heart accelerate dangerously and started to fear that it would jump out of her body. However that fear was nothing compared to Nebula having disappeared and Satin couldn't stop imagining all the horrible scenarios possible. She was so panicked that she felt tears swell up in her eyes and noticed that they were flowing when she saw the stain on the carpet. "You should calm down, your Highness. I am sure everything is alright." That person couldn't finish their sentence because Satin ripped out their vocal cords. "Send Everyone. You must find her." Satin's gaze was terrifying and soldiers ran away while pushing each other away. They couldn't stay longer in the same room as the crown princess. They were scared to finish the same way as their comrade. Satin couldn't calm down even once left alone. She was ripping her hair out walking up and down and trying to calm her breathing. She had to be fine. She couldn't be hurt. What would she do if Nebula got hurt? It wasn't possible. It was all her fault. She shouldn't have left the room. She should have stayed with her until the end. She should never have let her go. What did she do? It was all because of her. Satin couldn't feel her body anymore and every breath felt like fire. Nebula had to be okay. She had to be. This was the mantra that Satin repeated again and again until her thoughts cleared out a bit. As soon as she was awake enough, she ran out of her study and rushed to Imeena's side. Nebula loved that child for some reason. She would know where Nebula was, right? Satin didn't have a lot of interactions with Imeena since that day. She didn't want anyone to sleep in her bed after Nebula had been there but not wanting to humiliate Imeena, she still had to sleep with her so every night she would go to her room. She always showed up very late when Imeena was already sleeping and would leave very early saying that she had a lot of work to do. This was the first real conversation they had in years and hearing the first words Satin said made Imeena very sad: "Where is Nebula?" Imeena had to swallow once to calm down: "What do you mean? -Do you know where she went? -I have no idea what you are talking about, Satin." Hearing her name pronounced by someone else, Satin felt her skin crawl but she couldn't say anything. "Nala left the day after the wedding as you know." Satin was way too stressed to talk about that night: "Do you know any place she could have gone to? -I have no idea." She started to lose her patience: "What do you mean you don't know? Aren't you two very close? How could you not know that?" Imeena grimaced: "You don't look very good, Satin. Here." She went to get a small flask and handed it to Satin: "This should help you calm down. You can't find my sister in this state. You need to get back to your senses first." Satin had no reason to doubt Imeena. Despite her acting strange, why would she do anything against her sister? Therefore she took the flask and drank all of it in one go. What she didn't expect however was to fall immediately asleep. When she opened her eyes, Satin was laying on Imeena's bed. As soon as she got up, she asked when she woke up if they found Nebula. Imeena sitting next to her grimaced but said that they didn't know where she was yet. Satin thought she would cry but didn't lose hope yet. She did feel better after that night and she could think about this with a calm head. Fortunately Satin discovered everything the following day. Having sent people to the Duke's mansion, she learned about the divorce papers and the short goodbye note left by Nebula for her maids. In those few lines she told people that she missed her travels and decided to leave again. Satin wasn't happy about this. How could Nebula leave without saying goodbye? How come that her own sister didn't know about the reason for her departure? All of this was way too weird and Satin sent people to look more into it. Satin confirmed that Nebula really wrote that note and calmed down. She was fine. That was the most important. She was fine. Satin could finally relax a bit. She did her best not to get hurt by Nebula's leaving. But she really thought that they were closer than this. Didn't they become close friends in those 16 years? Nebula started relying on Satin and even asked her for help from time to time. That was way more than Nebula did to others. Satin knew her better than anyone and Nebula would always be highly touched about the gifts Satin gave her. She knew her better than anyone and Nebula told her that she wouldn't let anyone take her sister away from her. Nebula even came up to Satin's room before the ceremony. Satin could remember every single detail. She remembered that Nebula was wearing a pale red dress that had five folds of five centimeters each going from under her breasts to the base of the dress. Nebula could have worn anything and she would have taken Satin's breath away but every time Satin layed eyes on Nebula, she forgot to exist and just stared. How could someone be this handsome? How could someone be this perfect? Satin sincerely couldn't find any fault with her person. She could try for her whole life and wouldn't write down anything. "May I come in?" Satin got up so fast that she almost tripped: "Of course! Please. Come in." Nebula walked up to Satin with a perfect smile. "You look dazzling. -You look even better." She started laughing: "This is your day. Imeena and you are the stars of the show. -But you really are..." Nebula silenced Satin with a single head tilting: "I came here for the usual bigger sister talk. If you ever hurt Imeena in any way possible, I am going to tear your heart out." The maids thought they would faint. How could someone threaten the crown princess? On her own wedding moreover. "Okay, now that this is said, I sincerely congratulate you. I wish you two all the happiness in the world. -Thank you so much." Seeing Satin beaming unsettling for everyone present. "You deserve it. You are the best wife my sister could ever wish for." Satin could feel her cheeks heat up and she needed to change the subjects so Nebula wouldn't notice: "No, I am not... -Of course you are. I know that we don't usually talk about these things because, well, you two have been engaged for all our lives. But I am really glad that you came into our lives." Satin thought she could die in peace now. "Anyway, all the best. Don't ever hurt her. See you there." Seeing Nebula leave, Satin's heart skeezed terribly. She suddenly realized that Nebula wasn't the one she was marrying that day. She had to use all her strength not to run after her and hug her against her chest. She had to be patient. She couldn't be found right now. She had to keep going. But then why did she feel tears flowing down her face?
