Ashley stroked the back of her neck for a while, and let out a soft sigh. "...but then, I think they are good people and they like me already. Now I don’t feel comfortable betraying them and my late boss."
"You mean your late husband?" Kelly reminded her with a frown.
"Stop it, Kelly. I hate how that sounds." Ashley narrowly looked at her and rolled her eyes off.
"But it's the truth. They are definitely going to call you Mrs. Wilson now." Kelly elaborated.
"Yes, I know that already, my parents are dead and I only have a brother who is not even in the country. I have to pick one of them to be the boss and end the contract before my brother returns." She said speaking of her brother who went abroad to study engineering.
Kelly’s brows creased. "Ashley, are you really going to do this? We just finished high school and you are only twenty years old. You have all the money to go to further your education and also be your own boss. You should leave the country and change your name." Kelly kept suggesting that Ashley let go of whatever she has to do with the Wilsons.
"I know, Kelly, but I love my name, Ashley. I can't see myself changing it because of money. Somehow I feel I have a part to play here, and this is what I really need to do. I can go to school while handling this family's business. Besides, I would still have taken a step to further in college while working as his personal assistant if he was alive. Please tell me you are with me on this?" She asked with curved brows.
Kelly hesitated for a while before sighing. "You know I can’t refuse. Whichever part you choose to take, I am right here with you. But I must warn you that this isn't going to be easy at all.”
Ashley nodded. “I know.”
“Which one of his sons do you think might be reasonable enough to help?"
"I can only think of Jake. He seems smart to me." She said.
"Oh, you already know them to that extent? I won't doubt it if you tell me you are crushing on Jake now because I know nothing about that old man interests you."
Ashley rolled her eyes. "That is not true, Kelly. I have no crush on anyone. I just admire him and think he will be of help to me in running the family business. Then again, if we were to go by our plan of running away with everything, who is going to assist us in managing such amount of wealth? You have no idea how great this man's wealth is. We can't steal everything if we wanted to. And yes, Morgan's kindness was of interest to me and I will do same for his sons." Ashley said putting on a smile.
Kelly scoffed. “Good for you, now you are responsible for three grown handsome men." Kelly blushed as she observed that her friend had already been pulled into caring for the sons of Wilson.
Kelly felt it was okay to play along and see where all these leads to because she also wanted to find a way to mingle with one of the sons of late Morgan's whom she finds charming.
"Morris, get in here!" Alonso commanded one of the head staffs of Wilson's company into his office "shut the door." He added.
"Sir, we heard he collapsed again. Is he dead this time?" Morris asked.
"What do you think? I have done what needs to be done. It is time to work." Alonso leaned back to his chair and crossed his arms.
"Finally!" Morris exclaimed excitedly, rubbing his hands together for warmth.
"Sit down, there's no time for drama." Alonso muttered with all seriousness
"Okay, okay. Are you going to tell me how you did it?" Morris asked raising a brow.
"No!" He exclaimed, snorting. "I had to make it quick so we can proceed with our plans. I am calling for a board meeting before his funeral that has been scheduled next week. We need only those who knows about our plan of sharing the wealth of the Wilson Company to be heads of departments. You will be the director of our second leading branch. I am updating the names on the website now before the meeting so she will believe we already have them there before her introduction."
"Who is she?" Morris asked because he was lost.
"Ashley! Her name is Ashley. Damn it! Morgan always finds a way to make things difficult for me even in his death." Alonso rumbled.
"What did he do?" Morris asked again for clarity.
Alonso gasped and slouched in the office chair, "Morgan placed a woman in charge of everything. Can you believe that? This is someone he recently employed who knows nothing about how things are run here and she is barely and adult who only finished high school!"
"What! What are we going to do now?" Morris asked, looking like a fool to Alonso.
"We are going to begin by promoting the people who we can trust, d*ckhead! Paste these names where everyone can see and let the people occupying those positions know they have been demoted." He sputtered handing a list over to him.
"You’re appointing Kent, Steve, Henry, and Wayne, as heads of departments, Dothan and Archer, as leading directors?" Morris read it out loud, not vividly.
"I didn't ask you to read it to me, Morris. I said paste it! Get lost and get them prepared for the meeting tomorrow."
Six days after the death of Morgan Wilson, a lady dressed in a fashionable red gown and red heels was seen walking the passageway into a large room having a very long table and seats occupied by staffs. The staffs rose to their feet the second they heard the noise from her heels and the voice of Alonso which echoed,
"Everyone, may I introduce the president of The Wilson Company. Ashley Wilson!" They all turned to her and their eyes dilated to see the young lady in front of them.
Ashley’s gaze flickered to their conflicted expression, but she remained calm. "Please be seated. It is going to be a very short meeting. Thank you, Alonso." Ashley said, and sat down on the executive seat.
"You're welcome ma'am." He said and for a second, Ashley slanted her head, stare down at him surprised at how he became all of a sudden very loyal. “This is a file containing the list of directors ma'am." He said, handing it over.
She pushed it aside without glancing at it and started talking. "There has been some changes and effective from now, Scott, Briggs, Paula, and Anastasia, congratulations, you all are now heads of departments. Please get up so I could identify your faces. Then again, Sophie, Juliet, and Priscilla, please assume office as leading directors. Congratulations!"
Morris and Alonso who were sitting on opposite sides exchanged a shocked gaze, their pupils flared.
