Chapter 8: Women are Difficult

**Rylands POV**
"Come on baby why do you have to leave AGAIN!?" Sofie whines as I get out of bed. She can really get on my nerves. "I have to make this agreement work, its important and the pack needs a strong Luna." I say and start putting my clothes on. I know I need to break this off with her but she had been my teenage girlfriend, and even though we had spilt up we never stopped f*****g. "I could be your Luna." She purrs and crawls across the bed to me. "You arent strong enough to be a Luna and you know that." I say turnng my back to her. Now Lilly Kingsly, she is Luna material. Strong, stronger than any male in her pack, beautiful, so beautiful she commands your attention, and lastly feisty. I have watched her for over a year, since her dad contacted me offering her as a treaty. "Come on everyone respects me." Sofie whines again and i roll my eyes. "No one respects you, you get respect because youre f*****g me." I say and throw a few more shirts in my suit case before zipping it up. I here her sniffle and my heart drops. I know that Sofie isnt the one for me but I still have feelings for her. "Sofie you knew this day was coming, dont act like you didnt. Its been over a year." "I just dont understand why you want to be with HER and not me." Her big brown eyes lock onto mine and I melt a little. "Ill be back in a few days." I say and kiss her head. I cant send her away. I dont even know if Lilly will except me, and I dont want to be alone. I know Lilly will step up to be Luna, but I dont know if she will have me. I pull away from Sofie and walk out the door to meet Derek my Beta. "That," He nods his head towards my bedroom. "Needs to stop, Lillys wolf will kill her if she thinks Sofie is a threat." Dereks voice is gruff. "I dont know if Lilly will even have me how can I send away Sofie?" I ask and walk downstairs to my truck. Derek climbs in the passenger seat. Derek is the one who has been watching Lilly for me and gives me updates, ive seen pictures of course but Ive never actually seen her. "She is very strong Ryland I dont know if going into the ring with her is a good idea. I have no doubt you would win, but you or her could get hurt." Derek says once we get closer. I look at him but dont say anything.
We pull up to the compound of the Kingsly pack. Once inside we find the pack house and head to Alpha Richards office. I dont knock I just walk in. Richard is a weak alpha who I could easily take out but im trying to turn over a new leaf. I walk into the room and Richard lifts his eyes to me. "Nice to finaly meet you Ryland." He stands and reaches to shake my hand. I stare at it and sit in the chair across from him" Richard slowly lowers his hand and sits down also. "Where is she?" I ask curious. "Well at the moment she is getting ready for a tournament. She wants to prove herself, should be nice for you to see how strong she is. I have my toughest wolves up to fight today." I think about what Richard says and then think back to everything Derek had told me about her. I nod and stand to leave before I stop. "If anything happens to her the deal is off, and I want to be her last fight." I say watching him before leaving the room.
I know as soon as Lilly comes into the arena. Her scent hits me and my wolf is purring. "Mate!" He growls and im in shock. Whats the odds. I sit there and watch her take down every man there and before I know it, its my turn. I know in my heart this is going to kill me to fight her but im going to. Once im in the arena I choose to fight as a wolf. Im dying to see what her wolf looks like. I quickly shift and I watch as this little female turns into a wolf that rivals me in size. Her pure white fur looks so soft I just want to run my hands through it but I need to focus, she is a strong fighter and ive watched her last few fights and I know how she moves. The fight wins with me taking a shot at her foot. I was about to give up, her wolf was relentless, and my wolf loved it.
After our wedding and honeymoon we are heading back to my pack and for once in my life my wolf and I arent fighting, we are both just so happy to have found her. I dont even think about Sofie. I had told Derek about Lilly being my mate, he was told to inform the pack. We pull up to the house and with the time Lilly and I had been together I can feel our bond growing and I can feel her feelings, how happy she is. We park and start talking about the house when all the sudden my door swings open and in my lap is Sofie. Im so stunned I cant even start to push her off, until I her a growl and Lillys anger. Before I can even explain Lilly is gone carrying her bags inside. "Is that her?" I hear Sofie ask but I just hop out of the truck and try to chase after her. "`IS THAT HER?" The way she says it pisses my wolf off. "Do NOT talk about her that way!" I growl. "Derek told you shes my mate. Whatever was between us is over Sofie. Im sorry." I try and walk past her again and she tries to stop me. I just walk past her but stop when Derek is waiting for me at the door. "What do you want?" I snap and him and next I know I feel his hand around my throat. "You may be the Alpha of this pack but she is our Luna and we are as bound to her as we are of you, and I will challenge you if I ever see her hurt like that again over your negligence!" Derek growls out and I can tell he isnt lying and pride swells in my chest at his loyalty. I dont even fight him back.
Before I know im standing watching Sofie die, but I cant even look at her as Lillys brigh green eyes never leave mine. I can feel teh tears slide down my cheek, not because of Sofies death, I honestly couldnt care less about that, thats pack life.The tears are for Lilly having to do something I knoe she wouldnt normally because I was stupid. The tears even continue to fall as I I watch her huge white wolf run off and Derek shift to follow her to make sure she stays safe. I have failed her as a mate and ill spend the rest of our long lives making up for it.
