Chapter Eleven

What did he mean I was his mate? Did he only tell me that because he kissed me and didn’t want me to question him about it? I mean that kiss was WOW and it felt so right. What is wrong with me? I mean it would be awesome if he was my mate but I wouldn’t know till I’m 18. In my heart I know he was telling me the truth, but my head is telling me not to get to attached in case he’s not. I watched him run off as we had some rogues invade the pack lands. I was still standing at my mum’s car watching Ethan’s back. We still needed to talk about what he said and what happens next. I was to distracted to hear the growl that came from the behind me. I shook my head and turned to pick my bag up from the ground when I came face to face with a dirty looking brown wolf. I was frozen where I stood and couldn’t take my eyes off of the wolf that was in front of me. The wolve’s stench was horrible as it was a smell of dead flesh which made me want to throw up. “What do you want?” I asked the wolf. I was starting to panic as I have never seen a rogue before. The wolf snarled in a manner before shifting into a man who looked very familiar. “Well is this a nice surprise,” the man grinned at me. “Who are you?” I asked as I couldn’t think of who this man may be. Before the man answered I heard my mum scream my name as she ran to where we were standing. “Alexandra are you OK?” my mum asked me before she turned to the man. “I see you have found out where we are Dennis.” I was so confused and turned towards my mum who was glaring at the man in front of us. “Mum? Who is this?” I asked her. “He is my brother who was exiled out of our pack when I was pregnant with you. He went insane after his mate left him for another wolf. I haven’t seen him for all that time as he helped the rogues kill our old Alpha and Luna,” my mum stated not taking her eyes off of her brother. “Now it seems like he wants to destroy this pack as well, isn’t that right Dennis?” “Oh, Linda, you know me so well. It’s nice to finally see you again after all these years. This must be my beautiful niece,” he said disgustedly. “I have had some of my men distract the Alpha and his fighters just so I can talk to you.” “Whatever it is we want no part of it,” my mum spat back at him, “Leave me and my family alone or you will be sorry.” I watched my mum and my supposed uncle glare at each other. I heard that my dad was with Ethan and they were on their way back. I decided that I needed to keep Dennis talking till they got back. Dennis must’ve seen what I was going to do when he snapped his head towards me and sneered. “You better not girl, I can kill both you and your mum in seconds and I know that wouldn’t do. I want to make my dear brother-in-law suffer. I will not harm you myself but I can make your life hell,” He laughed and pointed a finger at me. “ I have been watching you for a long time and the time isn’t right yet to destroy this lovely new pack of yours.” As he was talking I noticed two more wolves coming up behind him and standing on either side of him. I glared at him and noticed that he had a long crooked nose, the same colour of hair as my mum but his eyes were red from being a rogue. I was still watching him and noticed my mum stiffen as I glanced towards her. “You will not hurt innocents, Dennis, you always had a chance but I can’t forgive you for destroying everything we held dear to us,” my mum threatened. “You need to watch your back as I will always be around but you will never see me until it’s too late,” Dennis laughed before turning his back towards us. “I will kill all of you and take over as the most feared Alpha in the world.” I growled as I felt Paige trying to get out and take over. “Let me kill him, I’ll wipe that smirk away,” she growled in my head. I felt my body shake and I was trying to keep her under control. I clenched my hands at my sides as I stared at my uncle. I wanted to protect my family since my dad wasn’t back yet but I knew they were close. I heard the howls getting closer and I smiled before I spoke to my uncle. “You will be the one who needs to look over their shoulder, Uncle, and you will never be able to take down my pack,” I snarled at him. I saw him think of what I had just said, he smiled and started walking away from my mum and me. He shouted over his shoulder as the wolves that were with him starting to get in an attack position. “Such a shame, I had high hopes that you would come with me willingly. Let’s look at this conversation as a warning shall we? Don’t get in my way or you will all regret it. Oh, my sources say that the Alpha is your mate, my dear Alexandra but you are his downfall,” He waved his hand in a lazy way before speaking to his soldiers. “Kill them both.” I saw him leave the way he had came from and the wolves growled before starting to run towards us. My mum shifted into her light brown wolf and tackled the wolf nearest to her before they attacked. I never expected my mum to be this aggressive or angry as every move the other wolf made she met it with just as much aggressiveness. I saw the other wolf out the corner of my eye and saw them run towards my mum and was just about to jump on to her back. I saw red after that and gave Paige full control as I ran and shifted when I jumped onto the back of the wolf. The stench of blood was everywhere as I saw my mum covered in scratches from the wolf she was fighting. I knocked the wolf off of my mum and we tumbled onto the ground. The rogue and I circled each other trying to find each other’s weaknesses. Rogues have never been that smart as he made the first move and tried getting his jaws around my hindleg. I jumped out of the way and bit his tail and tried swinging him into the car but I wasn’t that strong to make a difference. I dropped into an attack stance and ran towards the rogue. I scratched his snout at the same time he had brought his paw and scratched me over my stomach. I howled as I felt his claws ripping into my flesh the rogue shook off my attack and jumped onto my back. I felt his claws dig into my shoulders as I tried to throw him off. My energy was leaving me as I felt my blood trickle down my arms and I saw black spots appear in my vision. I ended up on the ground with the rogue on top of me and I knew this was it. I looked towards my mum and she was still fighting the other rogue. I saw that she was getting slower and her fur was covered in blood. I thought as I was stronger than this but knew I was really hurt. “Dad, please hurry we can’t fight anymore,” I whispered to my dad through the link. “We are fighting two rogues who came with their leader.” “Baby, we are almost there, hang on,” my dad shouted to me through the link. Alpha and I are coming.” I felt the wolf on top of me getting ready to make the final move to finish me off when I heard my dad’s howl. I opened my eyes and saw my dad’s wolf Dylan jump and grab the rogue by the throat that was on my mum. I felt the rogue that was on me look towards my dad as my dad tossed the rogue by the throat into the nearest tree. I smiled and just as I was losing myself to the darkness I felt the rogue on me being lifted and being thrown towards his friend. I felt Paige tire and I shifted back to my human body. I whimpered as I tried to stand up but I had lost to much blood and I fell back onto the ground. I saw my dad shift before picking up my mum who had shifted back to her human form and looked towards where I was. I tried shouting towards them but I couldn’t get my mouth to make any noise. I looked beside me and saw large white paws and when I lifted my head I saw a wolf that was huge. I knew it was Ethan as he looked down at me and whimpered. The rogue that was thrown off of me stood up and ran towards Ethan. Ethan growled before he launched himself at the rogue and snapped his jaws around the rogue’s throat. The rouge fought trying to get out of Ethan’s hold but Ethan closed his jaws tighter till the rogue went limp. I tried moving again but my body complained. I screamed as the pain coursed through my body. I couldn’t do more and just lay there wanting the pain to stop. I couldn’t do anything but lay there not even caring that I was butt naked as I shredded my clothes when I shifted. I saw Ethan turn towards me and he was breathtaking. I know I think I’m dying and I still can’t help but admire him. “Alex, honey, you’re going to be OK,” Ethan said running to me and sliding on the ground beside me. He covered me with the shirt that my mum handed him. “Baby, please stay with me. I’ve finally found you don’t leave me now.” I wanted to comfort him but I couldn’t move and it was getting cold. “Baby, don’t close your eyes, I need you to stay with me. I love you and your parents love you. Please don’t leave us.” Ethan was begging now and I heard his voice cracking with emotion. “Where is the doctor? They should be here now.” I heard Ethan shout before I felt myself being lifted up and held against a strong and solid chest. “I’ve linked the doctor to go straight to the hospital and I’ll bring Alex there, it’s quicker and safer for her.” I heard Ethan say to my parents before he started running towards the hospital. “Hold on baby, we’re almost there,” Ethan said into my hair as he kept running us to the hospital. I must’ve past out while he was running as when I felt my eye being opened by someone’s fingers and light being flashed into my eye then the beggar did it to my other eye. I wanted to hit whoever it was but I couldn’t get my arm to cooperate with my brain. I tried getting into contact with Paige but she wasn’t answering. I couldn’t hear anything that they were saying to me. I felt myself being dragged into blackness again and everything went dark. I was in darkness for so long that I didn’t know exactly how long I was there for. When I was trying to get back to the light I heard the most gorgeous voice as it kept begging me to wake up. I didn’t know who it was but I felt so drawn to it. I was looking around me and that’s when I saw a small light in front of me. I started running towards it as it got bigger the closer I got. As I got to the light I felt tingles and sparks on my hand and I was confused why I was feeling that. I looked into the light and I saw myself on a hospital bed with machines hooked up to me and something was pumping a liquid into me. I looked deeper into the light and saw my mum and dad sitting on my right side of my bed holding my hand. My dad had his arm around my mum’s shoulders as she was crying. “Wake up baby girl, come back to us,” She whispered using her hand that wasn’t holding my hand to keep my hair out of my face. I felt my heartbreak when I saw my parents look like their world had ended. I watched my dad press a kiss into my mum’s temple. He had been crying as his eyes were red and puffy. I watched as he looked to the left side of me and a small smile formed on his face. I was completely confused now as it wasn’t their voices that I had heard. I looked to who was on my left side of the bed and my heart sped up as Ethan was sitting holding my hand in both of his. He looked a mess like he hadn’t eaten anything or sleeping. He had large black bags under his eyes and they were red and puffy as well. Why was he here? I saw him kiss my hand and that’s when I realised that the tingles and sparks were coming from my left hand. “Looks like he was right, Alex,” Paige whispered to me. “Paige, I thought you had left me, are you OK?” I screamed with relief knowing she was still here. “I’m here. Had to heal myself before I could speak to you again,” Paige said smiling. “I have been using my energy to help you heal from that rogue attack.” “Paige, why haven’t I woke up? I thought we could heal faster than normal humans.” “Alex, you need to keep calm and focus on waking up. I have been speaking to Ethan’s wolf, Rowan, to find out the truth,” Paige said knowingly. “I am not allowed to tell you everything but I am allowed to tell you that you have been sleeping for the last week or so.” “Come on, the attack was only just happened,” I laughed thinking Paige was pulling my leg. “I mean wasn’t it?” “Have I ever lied to you?” Paige seemed upset that I would even question what she had said. “You have been unconscious and you need to wake up.” I huffed as I felt the sparks on the side of my face as I saw Ethan kiss my cheek. I wanted to wake up and see what the future holds for me but I will admit I was scared. I didn’t want to wake up and be too broken that everyone would reject me. I looked at my parents who were looking at Ethan now. I heard my mum clear her throat and address Ethan. “Alpha, you need to go and get something to eat and a shower. You have been here each day she has been asleep. I know that Alex wouldn’t be happy if she saw you the way you are.” my mum gently said. “Plus you need to get some rest. If anything happens when you are gone I will let you know the moment it happens.” Darn right, I wouldn’t be happy waking up and seeing him in the state that he was in. I watched as Ethan was about to tell my mum no when she gave the look which said don’t be cheeky. She used that look with me all the time and it always worked. I smiled when Ethan didn’t answer my mum back but he was still unwilling to leave my side. I felt my heart swell as he kissed my hand again and shuffled out of the room. I wanted to wake up now while he was away so I concentrated on forcing myself to wake up. I felt cold from where Ethan had been holding me but I knew I would be back in his arms after I wake up. “Honey,” my mum said stroking my hair smiling. “Happy birthday.”
