Chapter Twelve

I was frustrated when I left Alex’s hospital room but her mum was right I had to get some rest and something to eat. I had neglected myself since I brought her to the hospital, after the rogue attack. I sighed and ran my hands through my hair. “She’s a fighter,” Rowan reassured me as we got nearer to my house. “I know, but I feel so useless and I never got the chance to say that I loved her,” I whine back. “Didn’t you hear what her mum whispered to her as we were leaving?” Rowan suddenly shouted like he just realised something. “Dude, I wasn’t exactly listening when we left. I just want to go and have a shower, get something to eat, maybe have a couple of hours and then get back to Alex. So excuse me for not hearing what she said.” I grumble back. “You obviously heard what she said, so out with it mutt.” “Dummy, her mum told her, Happy Birthday, which means when she wakes up she will know we are her mate,” Rowan stated, wagging his tail. “You sure?” I asked suddenly feeling better. “I mean she’s going to know we told her the truth and she will finally be ours.” I can’t believe I had completely forgotten that her birthday was today of all days. I was so consumed with Alex being in the hospital that I had completely forgotten my mate’s birthday. What sort of mate am I? To forget something like that, I haven’t even got her anything. I started frantically thinking about what I can give her when she wakes up when I climbed the stairs into my house. I didn’t know much about her but I knew someone who did. “Zack, can you come to my office in about 20 minutes,” I mind linked Zack my Beta. “Also can you get in touch with Alex’s friends and get them to meet us as well,” “Of course, Will be there shortly,” Zack replied. I don’t know how this is going to go but I need to know what she likes and her friends are the only ones who know the best. I groan as I walk up to my room and open the door. I was not expecting the sight that met me when I walked into my room. Venus was laying on my bed with just a sheet covering her. “ What do you think you are doing?” I asked her suddenly furious that she would try this now. “GET OUT!” I scream at her. “I told you she was useless as she couldn’t even defend herself,” Venus said trying to sound innocent. “I am much better than what she will ever be and I am perfect for you.” “Venus get out of my room and bed now and you better be gone before I get out of the shower.” I snarl not in the mood to deal with her now or ever. I felt Rowan pacing in my head conflicted wanting to tear her apart and getting back to our mate. She sat up and let the sheet fall exposing herself. “I know you don’t mean that baby, I know you want me and you will realise that I am better for you in every way,” she laughed as she stood from the bed showing me everything she had to offer. Just the look of her made me sick and I felt the urge not to rip her throat out. I know, I know extreme right. She wasn’t anything like my beautiful Alexandra and she never will be. I started walking towards my closet to get fresh clothing. I walked out of the closet, Venus was waiting for me and wrapped her arms around my neck and she kissed me full on pressing herself against me. I grabbed her and pushed her away from me and growled. Rowan was going crazy in my head. “GET OUT NOW BEFORE I BANISH YOU!” I shouted using my Alpha voice on her. She whimpered as she gathered up her clothes and ran out of the door. I was fuming and smashed my fist into the wall. I was now running late and I needed to get back to Alex. I quickly showered before putting on the fresh clothing. I gathered the bedding that was on my bed and threw them in the bin as the thought that she had been in my bed made me queasy. I quickly left my room and walked to my office to meet Zack and Alexandra’s friends. I was still trying to keep Rowan under control and try to calm my nerves when I got to my office door. I heard a growl coming from within my office and I groaned. What other surprises am I going to come across now? I opened the door and stood and stared at the sight that met me. Zack was standing there with his arms wrapped around a girl who seemed to be shocked by the way Zack was acting. Her cheeks were red as beetroots as she stared at him. I cleared my throat to let them know that I had arrived, the girl was shocked and tried to pull away from Zack but he tightened his hold. He growled when she tried moving away and I knew then that my Beta had found his mate when he growled “Mine.” I growl back as I walk towards my desk which is dark wood. “Zack, give your mate time to accept you as a mate. Plus you know I already have my mate,” I say sitting in my comfortable black leather chair. “We have a bit more complicated things to discuss.” Zack looks at me before he lets his mate go but grabs her hand as they sit down on the couch that is in my office. I lean forward and put my elbows on my desk as I watched my Beta and his mate and the other girl that had come in. I see Zack looking at his mate and rubbing his thumb over her hand. I turned my attention to the girls who sat quietly in my office and they looked nervous to be here. I stop myself from laughing as this was hilarious. I straighten up as I needed to get this problem fixed quickly before I go back to Alex. “Hello, thank you for coming and meeting me today. I need your help with your friend Alex.” The friend that was holding Zack’s hand looked at me and she looked like she had a load of questions. I had seen her standing with Alex at the welcoming ceremony and I guessed that she was my mate’s best friend. “Hello Alpha,” she started to speak looking at me wondering why I was wanting to talk to her about Alex. “I’m Faith and this is Czarina,” pointing to the girl beside her. “What can we do for you?” “I understand that you are both Alex’s friends and I need help in deciding what she likes and I need you to tell me everything about her hobbies, favourite food, colour, that sort of thing,” I say to them quietly. I don’t know but I’m suddenly feeling embarrassed that I know nothing about my mate. I sat which seemed like forever waiting on one of them to actually start talking. “Well, Alpha, she is a very shy person but she is crazy once you get to know her properly. Her favourite colour is green like a forest colour green. She is very family-oriented, she loves music especially from the 50s up to the 90s. She loves sentimental gifts,” Faith starts listing off things that Alex likes. I was struggling to keep up with what she was saying. Faith seemed to run out of things to say. She went quiet as she was thinking if there was anything else. I was struggling even more on what to get her. “If I were you I would give her something that is from the heart.” Faith stated standing up. “I would like to go and see her now as I haven’t been to see her yet and it’s driving me crazy that I haven’t been to see her.” “Of course, thank you for your input as it has given me a lot to think about,” I say standing up as both girls left the room. I asked Zack to stay back even tho he wanted to go with his mate. “So, you finally found your mate.” I start laughing when I saw Zack whimper as he wanted to go with her. “Dude, I know, I wasn’t expecting it but as soon as she walked into the room I smelt the most amazing smell and knew she was mine,” Zack groaned as he threw himself into one of the chairs in front of my desk. “I know, pal, I won’t keep you long. I want a report on that attack and see if we have come up with anything about who was behind it. I spoke briefly with Sebastian and Linda but they couldn’t really say anything as they were too worried about their daughter,” I groan rubbing my hands over my face. “Man, I don’t know what I’m going to do if she doesn’t wake up. She held her own but the rogue was stronger than her. If we didn’t get there when we did…” “Ethan she held on till you both got there. We haven’t had another attack since and it’s only been a couple of days. She will wake up we all want our Luna strong and at your side,” Zack said putting his hand on my arm. “Thanks, dude, I need to eat before I go back to the hospital and I think you have a mate waiting for you,” I smile as I stand up and head towards the door. I walk down the stairs and walk into the kitchen. I still had no idea what to do for her birthday but at the moment I will just be there for when she wakes up then I can give her everything she deserves and more. I opened the fridge and found ham and lettuce. I wasn’t exactly hungry and that would do so I made myself a sandwich. I put the sandwich on the side when I went back to the fridge to grab a bottle of water. I leaned up against the counter as I took a bite of the sandwich. I pulled my phone out of my pocket and checked emails and messages that I had got over the last couple of days. I was reading an email from a neighbouring Alpha regarding their rogue problems. It seems like the rogues are attacking all the surrounding packs of the Silver Star pack. I was wanting to know why and what was the connection. I finished my food and put the dish in the sink before I went back upstairs to my room. I forgot about my bed not having any sheets on it due to the incident with Venus so I threw myself down onto my couch that was in my room. I had a huge room so of course, I would have a couch in there. I was looking around my room and looked at the walls. I remembered what Faith said about Alex’s favourite colour and I suddenly jumped up realising what I would do as her gift. I knew that she was going to eventually be moving in with me and I wanted her to feel at home. I thought back to her home and saw that her family liked light coloured wood. “Lionel, get the best decorator in the pack and get them to start decorating my house especially my room,” I order through the mind link, in a fun manner I might add. “Right away Ethan,” Lionel answered me straight away. I smiled as I hope that Alex would love it when she sees the surprise that I had decided on for her. I just pray she will wake up. I am still smiling as I felt my eyes start stinging. I knew I should’ve got some sleep but I was too excited now as I ran out of my room and headed for the front door. As my hand reached out to the handle I heard Sebastian through the mind link. “What is it, Sebastian? Is everything OK?” I asked suddenly feeling panicked. “Alpha, I’ve got an update for you. Everything is fine. Alex has woke up,” Sebastian replied. I couldn’t contain my happiness. My mate was awake and she will finally know that she is my other half. I couldn’t stop the smile off my face as I felt like I was on cloud nine. My feet hardly landed on the ground as I ran to the hospital to see her. I burst through the hospital doors and headed straight for her room. My heart hammered against my chest and Rowan was jumping for joy that his mate was awake, I slowed down as I approached her room as I could hear crying and I felt a pang of jealousy that I wasn’t there for when she woke up. Rowan must have felt something wrong as he stopped jumping around happily and went quiet. I was worried as we were both so happy that she had finally woke up. “Mate is hurting,” Rowan whispered. “It’ll be because of her just waking up won’t it?” I question but I never got a reply just Rowan whimpering in the back of my head. My hands started shaking as I opened her hospital door. My eyes opened wide when I saw Alex on the other side of the room in tears and screaming at her parents. I looked at Sebastian and Linda and they looked devastated. “What’s going on?” I asked them. “She remembers the attack and she’s wanting answers but she’s only just woke up and not ready for them,” Sebastian said quietly watching his daughter. I looked at Alex and started walking slowly towards her. I get close enough to grab her arm feeling the sparks as they explode through my body. I see her look at me and gasp as she stares into my eyes. I pull her to me and wrap my arms around her. I feel her relax in my embrace and start crying as she wraps her arms around my waist. I stroke her hair as I lead her back to her bed. I sit her down on the bed and sit beside her and stroke her head again. Rowan is going crazy again with having her in our arms. I was so happy that she was in my arms and I promised myself that I would always be there for her. My heart leaps when she pulls away and says that one word that I have been wanting her to say since I first day saw her. “Mate!” she whispers.
