Chapter Eighteen

2912 Words
I felt embarrassed as I watched Ethan walk into his closet to get dressed for the day. I mean I couldn’t help but to check him out. Knowing that the guy was my mate was one thing but he was so darned good looking it should be illegal. I wanted to talk to him after he had got dressed but everything from last night came flooding back. I threw the cover off of me and bolted for the door before Ethan came back out of the closet. I had grabbed my clothes as I bolted for the door making sure that I hadn’t forgotten anything. I hoped that no one else was awake at this time of the morning but I never had that sort of luck. I wanted to get home and jump in the shower before I faced my parents. I knew they would be worried about me for staying out last night but I was upset with them that they kept my uncle hidden from me. I understood their reasons but it still felt like it was a slap in the face. I ran past the kitchen and hardly noticed my friends were sitting at the table having breakfast. I wanted to stop and say hi but I didn’t, I just kept running. I will make it up to them later. I heard Faith shout after me but I was too engrossed in my thoughts that I hardly heard her. I felt Paige pace and noticed she was distracted. “What’s up Paige? You are pacing causing me a headache.” “I don’t know but something feels off,” Paige muttered as she kept pacing. “I feel like something bad is going to happen today.” “Can’t be as bad as what we heard last night about everyone keeping secrets from us,” I groan remembering the things that I found out last night. “Need to get home, Alex,” Paige started growling in my head wanting to get out. “Paige, what is wrong with you?” I ask getting irritated with her pacing. I was almost home when I smelt the familiar smell of burning wood and blood attacking my nose. As I got nearer to my home I saw that the front door had been destroyed as there was hardly anything left hanging from the hinges. I felt my heart pick up its pace as I finally got to the door. “Mum? Dad?” I shouted into the house. I could see the hall in shambles as the units were tipped over and broken, pictures that had pride on the walls were on the floor smashed. My heart broke as the scent of burning wood was stronger in the house. “Come on guys, this isn’t funny,” I was starting to seriously panic now. “WHERE ARE YOU TWO?” I kept sniffing the air to see if I could pick my parent’s scents up but the smell of blood kept making me want to plug my nose. I walked around the whole house trying to find either of my parents and it wasn’t till I reached the back door that I smelled a smell that was vaguely familiar to me. I knew the smell but didn’t know where it was coming from. I looked back into the house expecting someone to be behind me as I felt like I was being watched. I couldn’t see anyone. I was about to go back to the pack-house when I heard my dad mind link me. “Alexandra, we are in a clearing not far from behind our house. We are OK for now but we have unwanted company, don’t look for us, both me and your mum love you loads,” my dad never calls me by my full name unless he’s worried or that I’m in trouble. “Dad? What’s wrong?” I pleaded to my dad but he had blocked me. I sniffed and as soon as I smelled the familiar scents of my parents. I still felt like I was being watched but I needed to know if my parents were safe. I followed their scents until I came to a clearing and saw my parents standing in the middle. I saw that they were both tense as the muscles in my dad’s back were twitching. I hid behind a tree and noticed that my parents were talking to someone but I never saw who it was as their backs were blocking my view. “Has anyone never told you that eavesdropping is rude Alexandra?” I froze at the voice as I remembered the chilling voice that I have heard before. “Why don’t you come and join your parents?” I wanted to run and get Ethan and warriors but I also didn’t want anything to happen to my parents. I very slowly started walking away from my hiding place and walked into the clearing. I straightened my shoulders praying that I looked confident as I stopped when I was standing next to my mum. “Paige, be ready for anything,” I inwardly told my wolf. “It’s him, Alex, we should get help,” Paige replied as she got defensive and ready for whatever is going to happen. “Isn’t this nice? All of the family back together again,” Dennis said smiling as he dragged his eyes over my parents before settling on me. “We should do this a lot more don’t you think, Alexandra?” “I would rather not,” I replied folding my arms over my chest. “Oh come now, don’t be like that. It was them that didn’t tell you about me,” he pointed a finger at my parents. “Don’t you want to know why they never mentioned me?” “I know enough to know that you went mad after your mate died and you went rogue,” I snapped back. “Ahh, but you don’t know who killed my mate and why do you?” Dennis laughed as he stared at me. “Sebastian, why don’t we tell your daughter why my mate was killed and why I was thrown out of the pack?” Dennis barked at my dad. I looked at my dad and saw his shoulders slump knowing that he couldn’t keep the truth hidden for much longer. My dad kept his eyes on Dennis as he spoke softly, “Our old Alpha killed his mate as he thought that she had hurt a pup from our pack and also that she was a rogue, then he kicked Dennis out as he stood up for his mate.” My eyes widened at this as I was always told that his mate was killed by rogues. I never knew that she was a rogue and that Dennis had stood up to his Alpha over his decisions. “Now that’s not all that happened was it Sebastian? Tell your precious daughter exactly how she died,” Dennis shouted shaking with rage. I looked at my dad who was still focusing on Dennis. “The Alpha killed her after she refused to submit to him and she stabbed the Alpha before he snapped her neck killing her instantly.” “I finally found my mate and I was so happy that I finally had her but that git took her from me within hours of me finding her,” Dennis sneered. “Now I get to destroy your family by taking away the thing you love the most.” I growled at Dennis but he simply ignored me as he stood and sent daggers in my father’s direction. The silence that followed was deafening and heavy. My mum was the one to break the silence which I thanked the moon goddess for. “Dennis, we had no control over what the Alpha did and if your mate had only submitted then she would’ve been welcomed with open arms,” My mum said taking a small step forward towards her brother. “You can not blame what happened on your family.” Dennis threw his head back and gave off an evil laugh. “This is just as much as your fault than that stupid Alpha’s fault. You never stood beside me when I was trying to get him to see sense. You just stood there and let him kill her didn’t you Sebastian?” My dad never replied just kept staring at Dennis. The uncomfortable silence was back before Dennis sniffed the air, “Ah, I see we are in the presence of the Alpha, welcome to the reunion. Please let me introduce myself. My name is Dennis and I am Linda’s brother and your mate’s Uncle.” I didn’t want Ethan to be here but Paige was dancing in my head as my mate walked into the clearing. I didn’t want to look at him as I could feel he was in full Alpha mode at the moment. I didn’t have to look to see that he was raging that a rogue was on his property. “What are you doing on my lands Rogue? What sort of Uncle almost kills his niece or his sister? ” I heard Ethan ask with authority. I felt the butterflies do all sorts in my stomach, not now I don’t need to start drooling over my mate when this is going on at the moment. I was inching towards my mum until I was able to grab her hand. I was trying to get my mum’s attention and I wasn’t listening to the discussion that my uncle and Ethan were having. I tried to get my mum moved so it would be easier for her to get to safety. I kept my eyes on Dennis as he turned and left, I let out the sigh that I had kept in but then that’s where the trouble started. I noticed that rogues had surrounded us. One of the rogues separated my dad away from me and my mum. I didn’t want to shift until I had no other options. I saw a rogue attack, Ethan, before swinging my head and saw my dad fight with three more rogues. I wanted to go help my dad but I had to keep my mum safe. I slowly backed her up until we were on the edge of the clearing. “Mum, we need to shift to help dad and Ethan,” I whispered to my mum. She nodded her head and shifted into her light brown wolf. Before I shifted I looked over at my dad who had shifted into his dark brown wolf which made him move faster in fighting with the rogues. I then looked over at Ethan who had changed into his wolf and knowing that they were both powerful I shifted into my grey wolf. I saw a rogue approach us and I waited for him to make the first move. The rogue pounced and I swiped my paw at him. I didn’t have much training as my dad always said I wouldn’t need to fight. After the rogue had regained his feet he made to go for me again when Rowan suddenly attacked and stopped the rogue from attacking. I just stood there as yet again I couldn’t be brave enough to fight my own darn battles. I just watched Ethan run over to where my dad was fighting the rest of the rogues. I was deep in self-pity as I watched my dad and mate fight the remaining Rogues that I didn’t notice that my mum had shifted back into her human form. I shifted back and threw on shorts and a shirt that were behind the tree. I also grabbed clothes for my mum who just stood there. She slowly put them on as she looked like she was deep in thought. I shifted my attention back to the men fighting. They were winning by what I could tell but they were tiring. My dad especially was getting tired of the fighting. I felt my mum move slightly to the right of me and gasp. I looked and saw Dennis stab my mother in her stomach. “MUM!” I screamed as he let her go and smiled at me before he vanished into the woods. I saw my mum fall and I managed to catch her as she fell to the ground. I felt the tears swell in my eyes as I pulled the dagger out of my mum. “Mum, please stay with me,” I whispered as I held her and the tears flowed down my face. I moved her hair away from her face. I was still holding her as my dad ran over and grabbed her out of my arms and held her to his chest. I have never seen my dad cry before and my heart broke as he screamed in pain as he cried over my mum’s body. I vaguely felt Ethan come and kneel to me. As I watched my dad cradle, my mum, as her breathing got shallower I threw my arms around Ethan. I wanted his warmth around me and I managed a small smile as his arms encircled me. I watched my mum as she took her last breath and that’s when my heart completely broke. I tightened my arms around Ethan as I sobbed into his chest. I don’t know how long we were sitting in that clearing mourning the loss of my mum. I wanted my mum back as she was my rock and she was always strong but caring at the same time. I was still wrapped in Ethan’s arms while my dad was just rocking my mum. I looked into his eyes and I saw that he was broken. They say that when a mate dies you lose your soul as they were what completed you. My dad was broken now and I don’t know if I had lost my dad as well. “Sebastian we need to move and give Linda a proper funeral,” Ethan said gently. “She’s not dead,” my dad snapped at him. “I’m sorry, Sebastian, but we need to move somewhere more private and safer as we are not safe here,” Ethan said more firmly. I still had my arms locked around Ethan’s neck. I slightly nodded and made a move to untangle myself from Ethan. I felt cold when I left his arms but I knew that I had to go to my dad. My heart was breaking all over again as I walked over to my dad. I dropped to my knees beside my dad and threw my arms around his neck. “Daddy, we need to go and give mum a proper funeral. She wouldn’t want us to stay here,” I whisper to him. “I miss her too, but we still have each other.” I see my dad bring my mum closer to him and kiss her head. He gently laid her on the ground and turned to me. His eyes were puffy and red from his crying. He didn’t say anything but stood up and instead of holding me in his arms so he could give me, his daughter, comfort he walked away. I didn’t know what to do. I shut down and went into autopilot. I just stood there and watched my father turn his back on me and walk away. I couldn’t understand why he would do that. He wasn’t the only one that had lost someone important to them. I mean not to sound bitter but I just lost my mum. I felt betrayed as I wrapped my arms around my body trying to find warmth. “Alex, we need to move now, we will move your mum to somewhere safe. You OK?” Ethan asked me. How do you answer that question when your mum just died and your dad turned his back on you? I turned to face him and saw Zack and Lionel lifting my mum up with respect which made the tears run even faster down my face. I just looked at him before turning my back and followed Zack and Lionel and my mum to the pack-house. Once I got to the pack-house I had Faith and Czarina run to me and grip me in tight hugs. I just let them not really hugging them back. I knew Ethan was behind me on the way back but I couldn’t face him. To be honest I couldn’t face anyone. I dragged my feet up the stairs and since I didn’t know where any spare bedrooms were I walked slowly to Ethan’s bedroom. Once I got into the room I went into the bathroom and took a shower. When I was in the shower I let everything out with a scream. I kept screaming and let the tears flow as I released all the hurt and everything else you feel when you lose someone. I finished crying and screaming and felt extremely tired. I pulled out of the shower and dried off. I grabbed one of Ethan’s shirts and pulled it on before climbing into his bed. I took in his scent and felt slightly relaxed being surrounded in his scent. I drifted off to sleep knowing tomorrow I will be burying my mum.
