Chapter Five

I was sitting in my desk trying to concentrate on the same piece of paper since I had left the Bates. I groaned as I threw the paper across my desk. I couldn’t get her out of my head. Ever since I smelt her scent I have been memorised. I closed my eyes as I pictured her beautiful face and the way her eyes lit up when she saw her father. “I’m such an i***t,” I groaned. “I mean she didn’t notice that I’m her mate.” “Well is she 18 yet?” my wolf Rowan asked suddenly making an appearance. “I mean she wouldn’t know till she turns 18.” “I have no idea, Rowan, but I’m sure I have her birthday written down somewhere,” I said. I started looking through all the pieces of papers that were strewn over my desk. “Aha, here it is. Now let me see, she’s not 18 yet but she will be in a couple of weeks.” “Well, that explains why she didn’t feel the pull,” Rowan muttered sarcastically. “Shut up,” I growled. “I’m sure she will know that she is my mate then.” I held my head in my hands and sigh. “Question now is, do I tell her, or let her find out on her own.” “Well you might want to get to know her before her birthday, that way she will be comfortable when she finds out that you are mates,” Rowan suggested. I nodded in agreement. “I needed to come up with a plan to spend time with her before she finds out on her birthday. I will start the plan tonight at the welcoming ceremony.” I tried to get back into my work but I ended up giving up and leaving it for another day. I left my office and headed to my room. As I was walking along the hall, I could see the tramp Venus standing at my door waiting for me. “What do you want?” I snarl as I wasn’t in the mood to deal with her right now. “Seriously, I thought we would be able to fool around and then tonight you can announce that we are together,” she whispered in my ear as she ran her hands up my shirt. “Not now or ever have I ever fooled around with you and we are definitely not together, Venus, you are not my mate,” I grabbed her hands and held them at her sides. “Now if you want to stay here I suggest you leave and get ready for the ceremony tonight.” “I will be the best you ever have and you know it, your mate will be nothing compared to me,” Venus shouted as she turned around on her heel. I smiled as I knew what would get her off my back, plus it wouldn’t be a lie. “By the way, Venus, I have found my mate and she’s everything I could want in a mate.” Venus stopped in her tracks and glared at me, “We will see who gets to have you, Alpha, mark my words.” I left her and proceeded to my room to get ready for the ceremony tonight. I got into my room and stripped as I walked into my bathroom and jumped in the shower. I couldn’t help but start to feel a little bit nervous as I got washed for tonight as I knew I would be seeing Alexandra again. I smiled as I remembered her eyes that were sparkling a gorgeous blue. I finished in the shower and wrapped a towel around my waist as I walked out of the bathroom and went into my closet. Ever since I turned 18 I have been looking for my mate and even went as far as clearing half my closet out for my mate’s clothes and stuff. I pulled out a white dress shirt and a pair of black dress trousers and placing them on my bed. As I was getting dressed I suddenly thought for once I would a tie but loosely. I walked back into my closet and found a blue tie and smiled. “You do know that’s the same blue as our mate’s eyes,” Rowan laughed jumping around my head. “Calm down,” I groan to my wolf as he was starting to give me a sore head. “OK, OK, but she will notice,” Rowan said before he disappeared to where he stays. I was trying to do something with my hair when my best friend Zack mind linked me. “Ethan, everyone is here and waiting on you,” He reported. “Thanks, Zack, I’ll be right down,” I replied. I gave up trying to control my hair and with fixing the tie and checking myself once again in the mirror I started my way down to the welcoming ceremony. As I walked down the stairs in the house I suddenly smelt my mate’s scent but it was stale so I knew she was definitely here. My Beta Zack and Gamma Lionel were waiting for me just inside the back doors leading to the garden. “You ready bro?” Zack asked when he saw the nervousness on my face. “Yeah, man, but I need to tell you both something, I met my mate today, but she isn’t 18 yet and doesn’t know yet,” I said rubbing my hand over the back of my neck. “Seriously, dude, that’s great news. I take it she’s from the other pack?” Zack asked smacking Ethan on his back and Lionel smiling as he shook my hand. “Right, now that I have that off my chest let’s get the party started,” I sighed and took a deep breath in as my Beta and Gamma opened the back doors. I watched as my best friends walked out first and then I breathed out and followed them out to the garden. When I was walking I saw the new members of my pack were standing to the side of the stage waiting on being welcomed. I noticed Alexandra straight away and my heart skipped a beat. She was breath-taking in the halter neck dress that she was wearing. The blues really suited her. I followed the lace that hugged perfectly around her neck and I smiled as I couldn’t wait to put my mark on that beautiful neck. She was talking to her friend I assumed before she suddenly straightened as she looked my way. I stopped walking for a second and just took in her beauty. I internally shook myself but made sure I was walking fairly close to her without being obvious. She watched me walking past and I couldn’t help myself, I smiled and winked at her. “Smooth,” Rowan whispered to me which made me give a small laugh. I became more serious as I neared the stage that was erected earlier. I walked up the stairs and crouched on my legs as I gathered my wits after seeing my mate again. I took a few deep breaths in and out as my Beta calmed down the pack. I sneaked a quick look towards Alexandra and stood up and walked to the centre of the stage. I raised my hands and the crowd hushed. I looked out my members and noticed that Venus was front and centre wearing something that made my stomach turn. I cleared my throat “Can I have everyone’s attention, please. As all of you know we have had a few families join our pack over the last week. Tonight we welcome them into our pack officially. I would like to welcome each and every one of you to the Golden Moon pack. I would like each new family to come up and pledge their loyalty to and to the pack. We will start with the Parker family.” I saw Parker’s daughter look at Alexandra and squeeze her hand, before following her parents onto the stage. I turned to face the family and said, “Parker family, do you pledge your loyalty and recognise me as your new Alpha and pledge loyalty to the Golden Moon pack?” As soon as I had finished saying the family both said that they did. I shook their hands and allowed them to leave the stage on the other side and being welcomed by the members of the pack. I was getting tired as I said the same thing to the other families that were being welcomed but I got over being tired quickly when I had left the Bates family till last. I smiled as I announced that it was their turn to come and pledge loyalty. “Now we will have the last family to come up, can the Bates family come up, please? We have Warrior Sebastian with his wife Linda and their daughter...Alexandra.” I watched as Sebastian and Linda started towards the stage but they stopped and turned towards their daughter. I frowned a little at the fact she was just standing there. I let out my breath, that I didn’t know I was holding when she blushed and started walking towards her parents and then the three of them walked on to the stage. I smiled as I repeated the things that I had said to the other families. I was staring at Alexandra the whole time, which made her father look at me questionably. Alexandra looked up at me with those beautiful blue eyes and said that she would pledge her loyalty to everyone. I shook Sebastian’s hand when he kept my hand in both of his. “Your mates, aren’t you?” He said as he mind-linked me. “Yes sir, but I promise you I will be the mate she deserves,” I said standing straighter and looked him right in the eye. “You better or I will make your life hell, as that’s my baby,” Sebastian said as he laughed and let my hand go. I turned to Linda and shook her hand as well and welcomed her before turning to Alexandra. “Welcome Alexandra,” I smiled taking her hand and feeling those sparks travel up my arm from her hand. I let go of her hand as they went down the other side of the stage and started being congratulated by the other members. After the actual welcoming bit was done I was standing to Zack and Lionel when Venus came up and linked her arm with mine. “Hey baby,” Venus said as I ignored her. “You still mad at me? Come on I can make you feel better.” I removed her arm from mine and carried on talking to my friends ignoring her. I felt her put her arm back through mine. She was seriously starting to annoy me know. “Venus, get it through your head we are not together, never have been and never will,” I snarled at her, making her jump a little. I removed her hand again and moved away from her. She just stood there looking embarrassed. “She makes me sick, man,” Rowan growled in my head. “She’s nothing compared to our mate.” I looked towards Alexandra and saw that she had seen me with Venus. I saw something flicker over her face, was that disappointment? All I have done tonight is glancing her way and keep her in view, as I needed to talk to her. I saw she was with her friend, I think her name is Faith, and they were laughing and joking between themselves. Her laugh reached my ears and it was heavenly. “Dude, I have never thought you would be like this,” Zack said playfully punching me in the arm. “Just go and talk to her.” “I will do, I’ve never been this nervous,” I admitted to both of my friends. “ I mean she is amazing and she looks like a goddess in that dress.” I was staring at her again and she must’ve felt me looking as she looked my way and smiled. Her friend said something and I saw her blush. I had moved further towards her without making it obvious we were heading her way. I could tell she had noticed that we had got closer but she stayed where she was. “By the way which one is it?” Lionel asked looking over at the two girls Ethan was looking at. Ethan smiled and discreetly pointed towards Alexandra. “The one with the blue halter neck dress on,” I dreamily answered. “That’s my mate, Alexandra.” “She’s a beauty,” Zack said which I growled in return at him. “OK, man, I was just saying. Go and talk to her as she’s going to think you’re a creep for staring at her all night.” “Right, I’m going, I’ll catch up with you both tomorrow,” I said laughing. I started my way towards my mate when I noticed that Venus had stopped in front of Alexandra. Thankfully for my wolf hearing, I heard Venus tell Alexandra that I was hers and to stay away. I was going to interrupt them when I saw my mate stand her ground when she said, “Really then why didn’t he tell us you were his mate when he was welcoming us to the pack? Plus, I’m sure he wouldn’t someone that is fake.” I felt so proud in the moment then I saw Venus pour her drink right down the front of Alexandra’s dress. Rowan wanted to tear her throat out for upsetting my mate. As I was struggling to control my wolf I saw my mate slap, Venus, right across the face making her fall to the ground. Rowan was dancing around my head proudly. “ Our mate is strong.” I tried keeping a straight face as I wanted to laugh, I had noticed that everyone had stopped and was looking their way. Some of them were whispering amongst themselves about what just happened. “Go and carry on everyone, the show is over,” I ordered through the link making everyone carry on with the party. I turned back to my mate and Venus and saw the back of Alexandra run out of the garden. I turned around to Venus and glowered at her making her shrink further into the ground. “How dare you, don’t you ever go near my mate again or you are banished, now get lost,” I shouted. I felt everyone stop and stare at me as I have just announced that I have found my mate. “Now what? Genius,” Rowan asked. “Damn, now I have to say it officially,” I groaned realising what I had done. I look at everybody and took a breath. “Everyone it is true I have found my mate, but she is not 18 yet so she doesn’t know yet till her birthday. Please do not tell her as I am the person that needs to tell her. Keep this information to yourself.” I command using my Alpha voice. Everyone nodded respectfully. “Now enjoy the rest of the party,” I said dismissing everyone and headed towards the door. I followed her scent to her house and my heart broke when I saw her head on her knees and crying. I slowed down my pace till I stopped right in front of her. She stopped crying but kept her head on her knees. I sat down beside her and put my arm around her trying to be as close as possible. I cleared my throat thinking of something comforting to say. “Alexandra, are you OK?” I ask gently and waited for her to answer. She didn’t answer so I tried another way, “What’s wrong?” I asked when she lifted her head. I felt Rowan growling wanting to kill Venus for upsetting our mate. “Rowan, calm down buddy we need to comfort her first then we can take it further,” I told my wolf. “But our mate is hurt due to that stupid tart,” Rowan whined. I looked at Alexandra for a minute as she was staring at me quietly. She looked like she was talking to her wolf. “Do you want to tell me what’s wrong?” I asked soothingly keeping my arm around her. I was uncomfortable and I needed to hear that laugh that I had fallen in love with. “That was some slap you gave Venus by the way.” I teased, but the response wasn’t what I was expecting. She suddenly looked like she was terrified. She started crying again looking at me, “I’m sorry, Alpha, I promise I won’t hurt your Luna again. I got mad as she ruined the dress that my mum gave me to wear tonight. I only got it today as my mum was keeping it for my birthday but she gave me it early.” My heart shattered when I heard that she thought that Venus was my mate. She must think I’m going to kick her family out. I couldn’t help myself as I started laughing. “Venus isn’t my mate, I have met my mate but I don’t think she knows that’s she’s for me yet.” I squeezed her tighter hoping she had some inkling that she was the one I was referring to. I was staring at her and hoped she would accept me when she found out she was my mate.
