Broken.

Gabby’s pov.

As a group we’ve been told what’s going to happen very soon and we are being initiated into the pack tomorrow morning. Those that are able to are helping either in the pack hospital, the farm or training to be warriors. My mum wants to look after the three girls and the house so Jake can concentrate on his training and warrior duties and I can get to grips with working in the hospital. Which is where I am now, learning how to help the nurses. 3 of the women that came with me are pregnant, the doctor wants to keep them at the hospital so they can be monitored. My duty’s are to help anyone to the bathroom if needed, change and make up the beds and help distribute the food to the patients. I’m on my lunch break with some of the nurses and people from my old pack. A stabbing pain hits me in the chest making me cry out and bend over, I can hear screaming.

Unknown: “What’s going on? Oh s**t they are shifting.”

I manage to get up.

“May why are we not shifting when everyone else is?”

“We wasn’t fully apart of that pack. The Alpha must be dead so the Alpha order has been broken, which is forcing them to shift.”

I start running towards the ward.

“Oh s**t the pregnant women.”

Unknown: “It’s ok as soon as we saw what was happening they were sedated.”

Fucking hell my mum!!! I turn around and run to the house. As I get to the door a man I’ve never seen before rushes out of the house carrying my mum. I go into the house to check on the girls, they are huddled together in a corner of the living room.

“Girls it’s ok mum is going to be fine, she’s being forced to shift. Let’s go make some food I’m sure you’re hungry and mum will want something to eat later.”

They get up and hug me. As we’re going into the kitchen Jake comes running in.

“Gabby oh thank the goddess you’re ok. What is going on?”

I pour the girls a glass of juice each.

“I’ll be back in a couple of minutes. Jake and I are going to talk in the other room.”

I sit down on the sofa with Jake.

“Our former Alpha is dead which means the Alpha order has broken coursing everyone to forcefully shift.”

“Oh Gabby that’s awful. Are you okay?”

“I’m fine I felt the pack bond break but as I wasn’t a full pack member or under the Alpha order I got off lightly. Are you okay to stay with the girls while I go check on my mum.”

“Of course I can, we’ll get started on dinner.”

He kisses my forehead and goes back to the kitchen. I go outside the man from before is sitting on the floor next to a wolf that’s lying on her side.

“Is my mum okay?”

Unknown: “She was fighting the shift when I found her, she passed out due to the pain and exhaustion. After some sleep she’ll be able to shift back. I’m Joey her mate are the little ones okay?”

Ok wow I didn’t see that coming.

“They are I explained what was happening. Thank you for your help. How long have you known your my mum’s mate?”

Joey: “Um an hour or so, I was on my way home when all this happened although I had no idea what was going on. I could smell her scent. I knew she was one of the ‘new people’ I was worried she would try to reject me but I had to try to help her. I’m guessing that the Alpha order was gone plus I don’t think our mate bond had registered with her as that didn’t happen.”

“Well welcome to the family I’m Gabby, the younger two girls inside are my sisters Meg and Ruby. I’m going to go grab a blanket for when mum shifts back.”

He nods continuing to stroke her fur.

I go back into the house, Jake looks at me about to say something but I hold up my hand.

“Sorry I can’t at the moment my head is spinning and about to explode.”

He smiles and goes back into the kitchen. I grab the blanket from my mum’s bed and take it outside.

“I’ll be inside if mum needs me.”

“We need to set another place at the table as I think my mum’s mate will want to stay.”

Jake’s eyes widen as he nods.

Ruby: “Is mummy going to die.”

“No baby girl she’s going to be fine, after years of being trapped inside mum her wolf is able to come out. Knowing it was scary for you mum tried to stop it. It was very difficult and tiring for her so she’s sleeping at the moment but she’ll be back soon.”

A little while later mum and Joey came in.

Mum: “Girls I’m so sorry for scaring you I’m ok. I’m just really tired I’ll go have a shower then we can have dinner.

After dinner and the girls going to bed Joey wants to tell his story.

Joey: “I grew up in this pack, not long after my 18th I found my mate Tess. We mated and marked each other straight away. We were together for a year when we found out we were having a baby oh we were so excited. Six months later the pack was attacked by rouge’s. Tess was working on the farm and I didn’t get there in time, our daughter would have been your age Gabby. From what I know of your situation I think our pack’s were attacked around the same time. After losing Tess I moved in the pack house, I couldn’t live in our house without her and I didn’t need it. But now we have a problem!! I’m sorry but there isn’t enough room for the girls with us in the pack house as I just have a bedroom and I’m pretty sure this house isn’t big enough for all of us.”
