CHAPTER THREE
(Choosing Mates)
Aria's POV.
Alpha Wynter's demise was saddening. But, bygones were to be bygones. Ethan, the first son, assumed the throne as the prince and called for a meeting.
"My father, the leader of the Lunar pack..." He said, "...was overthrown in the fiercely fought battle."
"Yes, Ethan." Asher replied, looking back and turning away again. "It was painful and tense."
"On behalf of both packs," Ethan continued, "I particularly will choose a mate and Asher will do the same."
"Huh!" Asher reacted, almost unconsciously.
"I will never forget my father's will." Ethan moved on, standing up to his feet. "To make a peace treaty with the Kyros pack and let there be harmony. He asked to assume this throne and enforce calm on us."
"Beautiful!" The members of both packs showered appraisal in his words. Ethan didn't find it too well, and he cut them short.
"Listen to my decree today!" Ethan exclaimed. "Asher as the prince has a choice to make concerning the woman he wants from the Lunar pack.
Asher rejoiced where he was seated, and he smiled. He hid the smile and continued listening. He had earlier thought of the woman he would go for.
"I release you, Asher," Ethan concluded, as he held his hands and signalled to Asher to start moving.
Asher was later invited to the Lunar pack. Alpha Wynter's daughters were seated, and he became the cynosure of the people he met there. The ladies were so pretty that Asher couldn't help it. Moreover, the ladies kept staring at her as so much desired him. Soon, Asher found nothing else to do than wait for what they would say.
Lyca broke the silence. Asher was almost carried away as the thought of seeing me bothered him. Asher kept looking around for me, but I was indoors. Later, Lyca came to call me.
"Someone is asking to see you." She said, "I just mean to see you..."
"Okay, who is he?" I questioned her, my mouth opened more widely than earlier. I happened to be curious, and I also felt that. "Huh!" I didn't trust Lyca, because she always wanted to have her way. I decided to walk out.
"Who are you here for?" Lyca turned around and asked Asher, gazing at him as if she hadn't seen him before.
"I thought you went inside just now?" Asher questioned her.
"Err..." Lyca slurred, not knowing what to say. She noticed Zarra was already displaying her beauty to Asher. Even though Asher wasn't even moved by that, Lyca was still bothered. She desired to have Asher, and no one else.
Suddenly, the breeze blew the door open and I went out to check what was going on. I saw my sisters lying down on the pavement, but I didn't see who Lyca said was asking for me.
Lyca was a selfish go-getter. She was tenacious and cunning. Being the eldest sister of mine and my other sister's, Lyca didn't show much responsibility but wanted to get her own way. I began to understand there was a gentleman brought to the centre.
Several times, I had tried to convince Lyca and advise her to feel responsible to us. She was looking for a man and was ready to choose anyone. I later got to know the man she desired and wanted to express her feelings for. I didn't feel easy with her choice though.
Alpha Ryker summoned Lyca. Lyca stood up to him while the latter remained on a highly raised brick, speaking to her like a lord. Suddenly, he turned his head around and blinked his eyes at her.
"Do you know why I called you here?" Alpha Ryker questioned her, not waiting for a response before he continued. "I am not here to waste our time..."
"Our time?" Lyca asked him, as he looked at him with disgust written on her face." What's with our time?" Lyca was disrespectful, and she had no regard for whoever she was addressing, any time.
"I'm claiming you!" Alpha Ryker exclaimed, stomping down on the floor with his feet. The sound scared Lyca at first, but the Alpha walked to her quickly and hugged her. "I want you..."
"You mean?" Lyca asked him, rather coldly. "Why are you claiming me?"
"My choice, Lyca...!" Alpha Ryker answered her, as he smirked. His voice grew thicker and stronger that it scared Lyca. She stared at him and folded her arms, waiting for the Alpha's next statement.
"I choose you as my mate." Alpha Ryker reiterated his statement.
"Alpha Ryker?" Lyca called him, using a cool voice. She seemed to have yielded to him, but still reserved her feelings for Asher.
"You called me." Alpha Ryker said, "And, it sweetens me to hear your dear voice ringing in my ears and beating in my heart..."
"I can't..." Lyca slurred, pointing a finger to her upper lips thinking of how to respond to the Alpha. She didn't want to give in.
"You can't do what?" Alpha Ryker asked her back, rather angrily.
"I cannot love two men." Lyca opened up her mind.
"Oh!" Alpha Ryker exclaimed, but then he kept mute for a while and turned around. He started again, "Who's the second man for you, representing me in your heart, Lyca?"
""It's your son," Lyca responded.
"Asher?!" Alpha Ryker questioned her straightaway.
"Yes," Lyca replied, as she drifted away from the Alpha.
Alpha Ryker frowned, and approached her again. "I've made my choice and that is...you!"
"But, I've made mine earlier, as well." Lyca reverted, countering his statement.
"I am Asher's father for goodness’ sake!" Alpha Ryker charged her. "And, i can control him." He raised his voice and Lyca was shocked.
"Alright." Alpha Ryker, I can remain your friend..." Lyca said, turning her face down.
"Do you think I'm toying with you?" Alpha Ryker returned, as she suddenly dragged her and gave her a hug.
