::Sarah's POV::
I know they told me not to tell anyone, but they surely knew I couldn't keep this away from my mate!
"I see," Drake smiled.
"You believe me?" I relucted.
"If you told me that unicorns existed, I'd believe you," he held me from behind, "But I know you'd never lie when it comes to your friends."
"I'm not sure if Trey has categorized me as his, but..."
"Oh, he is your friend," he reassured, "Adam has him wrapped around his finger."
"Her," I corrected.
"How did that happen?" he asked.
"We don't know," I answered.
"Nonetheless," he kissed my shoulder, "It's been a while since I've seen you this happy."
"Hey!" I nudged him, "You make me happy!"
"There is a certain happiness that only friends can provide," he grazed his lips across my shoulder, "I always want to see you smile."
"I love you," I purred.
"I love you," he trailed his lips back and up my neck, where I turned to meet his kiss.
::Adam's POV::
Trey struggled to keep flight, and we had to land several times. I suggested we walk for a bit, especially when his powers haven't fully returned.
"You really put on a show back there," I referred to the cave when we left.
"You can't show the weak you lost your strength," he replied, "I can't be below that lycan."
"She's my friend," I reminded him, "How would you like it if I treated Gina like you treat Sarah?"
He remained silent, but grunted uncomfortably.
But where he brought me was somewhere I never knew existed. We came to the edge of what seemed to be a barrier.
"This is one of the entrances to the human territory," he hesitated, "I thought I'd never have to go back."
"You make it sound like it's a total nightmare!" I felt uneasy.
He held my hand and went in first. The barrier distorted like the vibrations of jello, but we entered with ease!
We came out from the other side, and he scoffed while rotating his arms.
"What's wrong?" I asked.
"In this world, you don't have your powers," he shrugged.
"I don't feel different," I noticed.
"That's because you're actually a human," he observed.
"What?!" I shrieked!
Then a passerby interrupted us, "Excuse me miss, is that man bothering you?" they asked.
"Uhm... no?" I c****d my head back in confusion.
"Okay," they said and walked away.
I looked at Trey, "That was weird."
"It's really not when an innocent girl is shrieking next to a big black man," he retorted.
"Why do you have to be so specific!" I leered at him.
"Because it's a stereotype in this world," he looked away, "Things are different here."
I decided not to pursue further. But, we had to come here for a reason.
"Are we looking for Gina?" I asked.
"No," Trey walked off, "We need to find a place to rest first."
He was right. We have been flying and walking for quite some time! I was feeling exhausted, especially having withdrawals from my wolf.
Wait!
I can't hear Eric!
"I told you," Trey whispered, "In this world we don't have powers, so we have to be careful."
I can't feel or hear my wolf! This void of silence felt foreign...
...And lonely.
"Come on," Trey looked over to a nearby building, "That should be a place we can rest."
The building was nothing impressive, but I could smell a tasty aroma. I excitedly urged us to go in, pushing him from behind.
"Welcome!" The receptionist greeted us, "How can we help you?"
"Room for two," he asked, "Meal included."
The receptionist gave a snide smile, "One bed or two?"
"One!" I answered.
The receptionist smiled and began typing something into the computer.
"What's so funny?" I turned to Trey, who face-palmed himself.
He chuckled, "You got to learn how to be a girl."
"What," I sassed, "Are girls not allowed to be bold?"
"That's not it," he shot me a glance, "You can't just behave this way in front of people."
"You make it sound like prostitutes don't exist," I humphed.
"But you're not 304," he countered.
"Oh," I blushed, "You're smooth."
"Here are your keys," the receptionist giggled and handed us our keys.
We thanked her and navigated to our room. We opened the door and settled down. I plopped my exhausted, spiritless body onto the bed.
"Purgatory wasn't this comfortable," I sunk my face into the pillow.
"Right," Trey set his coat on the hanger and started to take his shirt off.
I stared like a leopard watching its prey. His dark chocolate skin revealed as he lifted his shirt inch by inch. His body was beautiful! His toned muscles flexed and the more he took his shirt off the heavier my breaths became.
"You okay?" he tossed his shirt at my gawking face.
I scuffled and threw the shirt to the side, "You..."
"Are magnificent?" he interjected, "I know."
I had to look away, because this was getting a bit dangerous. I was still attracted to this man, even as a girl!
"We better get some rest," he sat on the edge of the bed, "Scoot over."
"Are you sure we can't?" I deviously flirted, "I mean, if I had the chance back then, I would have taken you on the first night."
"I don't think you know what you want," he rolled his eyes, "And besides, you never done it as a girl."
"So?" I pouted, "While we still have this life, why not explore our limitations?"
"Not tonight," he flipped the comforter over him.
I gasped. Did he really just reject me?! I settled under the blanket and turned the other way, completely fuming. Then I felt his body close in to me. His muscles against my back, our skin touching, just with different texture.
"Don't get me wrong," he whispered into my ear, "You're the only girl I ever said was pretty."
I felt my cheeks get hot, and I sheepishly sunk into the sheets.
I guess we could take this slow. But why was I curious about how it would feel to be a girl? Yeah... I need some sleep after all.
I fell asleep easily, and entered my dreams.
My surroundings became foggy, but I could see someone in the distance. I walked over, and I felt my feet come to a halt. My heart beat raced as I realized who I was looking at!
"M-mom?"
A woman with dark brown curls turned to me. I got my eyes from her, but she did not look happy to see me.
"Traitor," she growled.
W-what?
Her wolf ignited to her emotions and she transformed before me.
"Wait!" I took a step back, "Stop!"
"Traitor," she repeated, and lunged forward.
I dodged to the side, my wolf was not responding, and I realized I was still powerless!
"Mom!" I shouted.
"Don't you ever claim me as something that I am not," she growled, "You are no child of mine."
I know that I never had a relationship with my parents, especially when I ran away from home.
Her wolf was coated with a golden pelt, indicating the blood of the alpha. Her eyes burned with intention to kill.
"Why are you here?" she snarled at me.
"I don't know!" I spat back, "I didn't request this nightmare."
She sat down and observed me.
That was better than her actively trying to unalive me, I guess? I sat down to meet her gaze. Her wolf growled, but she remained still.
"It would have made more sense as a girl to like men," she sneered.
Okay... now I remember why we didn't have a relationship.
I shook my head, "Even in the afterlife you never change," I looked away, "It's best we stay still until this nightmare ends."
"I just never understood how you found men attractive," she pondered uncomfortably.
"Well, you should know, since you're straight," I rolled my eyes, "I just don't have the same gender as you."
"But you have alpha blood in you," she countered.
"And you need to get over it," I retorted back.
"You don't know where I am coming from," she padded over to me, "I just wanted the bloodline to flourish."
"You mean by forcing me to be someone I am not?" I took a step back, "No thanks! The curse ends with me!"
My mother soon came to a halt and then her eyes saddened as she looked into my eyes. They say that mothers have a bond with their children, it was their blood that was shared after all. But, when I locked eyes with her, my heart sank. I was feeling each broken pieces of my past crumbling more and more.
"Stop!" I whimpered, "This isn't fair!"
"Adam," she whispered, "I'm sorry."
I looked up at her. Her voice cracked, and her fur began to fade. Her wolf weakened and proned to the ground, heaving.
"What's wrong?" I asked, not realizing that I joined her position.
"In the end I failed," she whimpered, "I couldn't see my child for who he was. I... I couldn't protect you or find you when you left. At first I was angry, but as the days passed 'till my last breath..." she coughed, "I was missing a part of me."
Those words stung, and I did not have the right words to say. But, her wolf was disappearing, and I felt panic soon take over my body.
"Wait!" I stammered, "Don't go!"
"It's okay," she whispered, "I just wanted to see you one last time."
"M-mom," I felt tears falling onto her weakened wolf.
She closed her eyes, "When the moon goddess told me you had passed, I begged to be the first to speak to you," she shed a tear, "But I wasn't granted that wish until now."
The pain I was feeling was something I did not wish for my wolf to feel. Because, as a pup, to witness their mother's spirit leave the world, was something we would howl and curse to the moon.
"I'm sorry," I apologized, "I didn't mean to fail you as your son..."
"It was never your fault," she rested her cheek on her paw, "I failed to accept you, to raise you, to protect you, to find you, and to save you," she smiled before she took her last breath, "Never be sorry. It is okay not to forgive someone beyond the grave."
Before I could say anything, I choked on my words!
Her wolf and her spirit intertwined with each other and floated together to the sky where they joined the rest of the stars.
"Mom!" I sobbed.
Her soul twinkled and was welcomed by our past generations. Hers glowed with the color of her golden fur and I dropped to my knees.
Goodbye mom.
I felt my surroundings fade and I jolted upright in bed. I felt my heart racing and my cheeks still hot and wet from my tears!
"Are you okay?" Trey asked with worry on his face.
"What was that?" I referred to my dream, "I... I dreamt of my mom."
Trey waited a bit, "I'm taking it that it was not a good dream?"
"I-I don't know," I admitted, "It was like she was saying goodbye. Like she had been longing for closure."
"I'm sorry," he offered comfort, and I cried like a baby in his arms.
"It hurt so much," I hiccuped, "I didn't know what to say!"
"Maybe she just wanted you to listen," he held me, "She needed it to ascend to the next life."
I knew he was trying to make it better, but my whole body was shaken by the experience. That dream drove my emotions into a frenzy.
And I've denied all of them before.
I was sad when my parents didn't accept me. I was angry when they didn't try to find me, and then was indifferent when they passed. But now, I just don't know.
