Chapter Eleven

Eleven: "There is no woman on this earth that holds a status above yours."

"Are you ready to leave?" I had been waiting for that question since I woke up this morning and saw it. An article Charlotte posted about me. She had spread lies about me yet again and the thought of finally being able to make her pay for what she had done to me all these years was too pleasing for me to even feel nervous.

I was going to be luna, yet she had gone out of her way, bullied me, insulted me and seduced Jack so she could be the beta's wife. That on its own should be enough of a kick in the gut, but I intended on doing more.

I woke up extra early because it was still hard to sleep after my encounter with Alpha Kane last night. I had so many questions about those few minutes, but I had to push them to the back of my mind and focus on what matters.

As soon as I picked my new phone up, I did not resist falling into my bad habit of checking our news broadcast that is uploaded on our website every morning. There it was; Charlotte's lies that she had definitely orchestrated and executed quite well.

"She can't be the reason he is not our beta, she confessed to me that she is half witch on the day she ran off. I am so worried about her, and I know that she won't come home if you all decide that she has to die as per our laws. Please, give her a chance to explain why she is harmless. She has not done any of the thing her ancestors are known for doing against us wolves. " Her face, her crocodile tears as she held Jack's hands made me even more furious than the things she was saying.

"I loved her, but I always knew that something about her was strange. She would collect my.... release every time after we... you know? She claimed she was just obsessed with how good I am in the sheets that she just had to collect a souvenir, but now I know, she had been using it for her spells, to make me think we are mates. In just a few days, Charlotte and I finally realised why we have always been so drawn to each other. It because we are mates."

I watched with my jaw on the floor as he hurled ridiculous accusations. Not only had he lied about us ever being intimate, he managed to make me out to be the villain.

My blood was boiling the more I listened to what they had to say. It was really bad. The entire city of our pack was out to find me and end me. I had supposedly been using my spells to trick him into thinking we are mates, and just by virtue of Charlotte "confirming" that I am indeed a witch like everyone had been speculating, she had just written me a death warrant, and the entire pack had signed.

"Why are you looking at it?" A voice suddenly came from behind me and I quickly closed the website and put my phone away before wiping away my rage tears.

I hated how being angry always made me cry! I felt so weak for it!

"They are going to kill me. Charlotte has just written me a death warrant and everyone in the pack has signed it. You're probably here to kill me, right?" I asked him, rising from the floor. I felt so small standing next to him at his towering height.

His hand reached for my cheek and he slowly rubbed circles with the back of his index finger.

"You make me laugh sometimes, I have always liked that about you." A smirk danced along his lips before his finger ran down to my chin and he held it between his index finger and thumb.

"Get a grip! No death warrant is valid till the Alpha signs. I am introducing you today, and that is not the fave I want to see on my fiancé when I let the whole world know that you are mine.. You got that?" He asked me with such an intense look in his eyes that I almost couldn't breathe. It felt like he was piercing straight into my soul.

"I... I don't know how to not be angry about this, Kane!" I suddenly yelled as a tear fell from my eyes.

"Alpha Kane!" I corrected and looked down after removing his hand from my face.

"Anger is good, you just need to use it the right way and master the most important art. Let it exist in the background." He confused me yet again, but I looked up to him and arched my brows questioningly.

"How do I do that?" I asked him, my heart suddenly beating so fast and hard against my chest.

"Just remember who you are. The Luna of the Blood Moon Hounds. There is no woman on this earth that holds a status above yours. You can do whatever the f**k you want after I marry you, Paige." He reminded me.

That made a switch flip.

I couldn't waste such an opportunity. If Alpha Kane got tired of me eventually and decided he did not want me as his Luna anymore, I should be able to say that I did get everything that I wanted while I upheld that position.

With my mindset entirely shifted, I decided to go for a look that would match how I felt. I put on makeup for the first time. A bold red lip and subtle yet strong enough eye makeup. I curled my long chestnut hair and finally, the outfits that Alpha Kane had picked out for us made sense.

We looked like a filthy rich couple that was ready to take over the world and crush their enemies. And guess what? That is exactly what we were.

"Yes, I am impatient actually." I responded, holding my head up high. Was this the rush of confidence? It felt amazing.

We flew to Alpha's Point, our part of the city, where the pack house was.

It was going to be the biggest event in history. The pack house had opened its yard to over two hundred thousand of the city, the rest would be watching from home as the new Alpha is inaugurated. The reason everyone was so excited and uneasy?

Alpha Kane had already declared that he has his luna already and would be introducing her.

"Hold my hand, and don't look around, just straight ahead." He adjusted the mask he had told me to wear before the car door opened for us and he stepped out first.

My heart was beating so fast against my chest as we approached the two people I despised the most right now.

Jack and Charlotte were waiting for us at the end of our golden carpet, and as they bowed, Alpha Kane sped us through them and walked to his stage.

"I was going to wait till later to introduce her, but it turns out, I love her too much to hide her for more than five minutes." He spoke and I squeezed his hand.

"what are you doing? You said it would happen later!" I whisper yelled at him and he just squeezed my hand back until I moaned as quietly as I could.

"I plan to marry her on the anniversary of my father's inauguration, a week from now. You will fear her more than you fear me. If anyone ever lays a finger on her, touches even a single hair on her body, that person should consider themselves dead!" He added and everyone was now quiet.

My eyes darted down to where Charlotte and Jack were still standing. They looked uneasy, but nobody was as uneasy as I was.

"Here is your new Luna. My Mate, Paige Willey!" He announced and I felt my heart skip a beat as the entire crowd gasped. It was loud alright. People in their hundreds of thousands making shocked remarks all at once.

Before I could even take a deep breath and calm myself down, Alpha Kane pulled my mask off and tossed it behind him.

My eyes turned to Jack immediately as he suddenly lost his balance and fell on his butt. Charlotte had her jaw on the ground and everyone was staring at us with astonishment.

I tried to keep a straight face. This face was on a huge screen for everyone to see foe crying out loud, but it was hard.

"I said don't look around!" he said to me before he pulled me towards him and held the side of my face, planting his lips on mine.

My heart wanted to jump out of my chest as my legs went weak. I kissed him back immediately. There were people watching and our chemistry could not afford to look staged.

He did not keep it a sweet, innocent peck. Definitely not. It was my first real kiss and I was nervous as hell as I moved my lips as best I could, wrapping my arms around his neck.
