Jay's POV:
Blane told me about Kally's suspicions. No matter how much she asks, she won't find out anything. My brothers won't spill it out. I forbade them from talking about this. The only one who is allowed to do it is me. That won't happen. I promised myself not to talk about this ever again. I don't want to remind myself what happened. That is history. She is someone for who I don't care. I planned to make Kally quit, but I didn't do it. I can hurt her. The question is what will happen after that. Maybe she has a story as well. I never asked her. Mostly, that is because I don't care. There must be something that will make her leave. At the same time, this means we have to do it. No, I won't let this happen. My brothers and I will stay here. I can convince her to let us go out, but it won't be easy. She won't give in that quickly. I can try to seduce her, but I'm afraid it won't work at all. Her life is not as colorful as I think. It's not like I care about that. I hope that she will play on our side.
Kally came home an hour ago. I don't want to be mad at her, but the thought of her makes me do it. There must be a way we can understand each other. Sadly, she won't do anything I say. I went to check on her. She was making lunch. I still don't understand why she is cooking for us. We didn't make her. Probably, our mom made her do it. I don't see another reason. I feel like it's the duty of every babysitter. This time, I won't do anything to her. Well, I'll try.
- Hey.
- Oh, hey. Do you want something?
- No, no. I only came to check on you.
- Ok.
- How are you today?
- I'm fine. Weirdly, you ask.
- Look. I don't want to be mad at you. Can we understand each other?
- I'm not doing anything for you. I don't care if you will be mad at me or not.
- Did something happen? I think someone might have run over you. - I said, chuckling
- Do you find this funny?
- So, it's true.
- I didn't say that. Such things are not a joke. Can't you be serious for once?
- Will you accuse me of every single thing that I say?
- No, but you should know how to act around people.
- I'm sorry, Miss Perfect.
- I'm not perfect, but I know my worth. If you can't value that, there is no reason to try.
- Coming here was a mistake.
Whenever I try to talk to a decent girl, it's never enough. They always want something more. I left her alone until lunch break. I'm done putting effort into people who don't deserve it. Our lunch was peaceful. Kally didn't say anything. It's not like I have what to tell her. My brothers left us alone when they finished eating. That is a little bit awkward.
- I heard you are making good coffee. - I said
- It's not that good.
- Blane doesn't think like that.
- I can make one for you if you want.
- Sure. I would love to try it.
- No problem.
- Are you ok?
- Why wouldn't I be?
- Look, I.
- Here is your coffee.
- Thanks. It's good.
- What did you want to say?
- Nothing. Forget about this.
- Ok.
- I'm sorry for what I said. I didn't want to offend you.
- It's ok. I don't care.
That was a lie. I know it offended Kally. She does care, but I don't know why. The boys came to the kitchen as well. She made coffee for everyone. I won't tell her anything else.
- I have to congratulate you. None of you has been in trouble yet. - Kally said
- How can we do that when you are here? - Toby asked, chuckling
- I better stay here instead of the three of you being at a military school. After all, I want to see you next university year.
- What? You see us at the university.
- Sometimes.
- You study in the same university as us.
- Yes, I do. Why?
- We haven't seen you there. - Blane said
- I don't study the same thing as you.
- That is interesting. Maybe we can see each other more often.
- I don't think so. We have different classes.
- So? You still go to university. - I said
- Why not? Don't tell me that all of you want to see me.
- No one said that.
- That's how it sounded to me.
- Keep dreaming. You are lucky that we left you here.
- You have no choice. I won't remind you about it.
In the afternoon, I was sitting by the pool. Only my feet were in it. I'm not in the mood to swim. I felt some presence, but I didn't turn around. I know my brothers' footsteps. It's Kally. Again. Maybe I should give her a chance. I mean, she didn't do anything to me. The other thing is that my brothers seem to like her. I planned to put my worst prank on her. I gave up.
- Can I help you? - I asked
- Your brothers said you wanted to talk with me.
- What? I never said that.
- Huh?
- I never wanted to talk with you. I mean, I didn't tell them anything.
- Now I know why they were so pushy. I'll go inside.
- You can stay if you want.
- I won't bother you.
- You won't. I haven't talked with a girl in a while. Someone different than you.
- May I know why?
- Personal reasons.
- Whatever has happened, you should move on. I'm telling you from personal experience.
I wondered what had happened to her, but I didn't ask. I don't expect her to tell me. We talked for a while. I can't understand why my brothers keep insisting. I don't want to date anyone. Talking with girls is still a slow process for me. I need more time.
- To understand that you have your battles. - Kally said
- Maybe. Something like that.
- I know you don't give up easily. I'm sure you can win.
- But I'm not. I have been dealing with this for quite a long time.
- You managed to get rid of four babysitters. It can't be that bad.
- That depends on the point of view.
- True. Another coffee?
- No, thanks. It's too late. Maybe tomorrow.
- You mean Monday. I don't work on the weekends.
- Right. I think you should do it.
- Hey, I have a personal life.
- Since when?
- Very funny.
I think we are making progress. At least she is talking with me. That is how we spent the afternoon. Toby and Blane came as well. She waited for our parents to go home. I think our mom is still surprised to see her here. Maybe we can find a way to understand each other. Mom invited her for dinner with us. We are going out. That is a surprise.
- Are you sure you don't want to come with us? - our mom asked
- It's enough that I stay here all day. I think you need to spend some time together. - Kelly said
- I'm sure my kids don't want to be with me.
- We never said that. - I said
- There is no need to. I'm surprised that you kept her.
- I can make her go in a day. I'm not doing it because of Toby and Blane.
- Fine. At least pretend that you like her.
- I do. Sorry, mate. - Blane said
- He likes my coffee, not me. - Kally said
- That is not true.
- Are you sure? We don't talk much.
- I.
- I'll go home. Thank you for the invitation. It'll happen another day. Have a nice dinner. I'll see you on Monday. - she said and left
- Go and get ready. You have fifteen minutes. - our mom said
Our parents and I went out. I don't know why they wanted us out of the house. We are supposed to be grounded. I pulled out my phone and started texting in the group chat with my brothers. Some things are better unsaid. Our parents don't need to hear everything. When the food came, we started eating.
- Will you stop looking at us? It's creepy. - I said
- There is nothing wrong with looking at my kids. - our mom said
- Mom!
- What? Won't you tell me what is going on with Kally? If you didn't like her, you wouldn't have kept her.
- You won't send us to a military school. I know you.
- Are you sure? Check the website. I think you will like it.
- Don't you dare!
- Excuse me.
- The food is good. Right, dad? - Blane said
- Yes, I agree.
- You can't win over me. All you can do is accept me for who I am.
- How can I do it when you act like this?
- Now you don't love me.
- What? I didn't say that. Please, don't put words in my mouth.
- You don't like me. It means you don't love me. That is the same thing.
- No, it's not. You have to listen to what I say.
- That won't happen. Keep dreaming.
- Jay!
- I'm out of here. Alone! - I said and left
Why does she have to be so annoying? I decided to walk around. I might be grounded, but I don't care. I went to get a drink and went to a quiet place. That didn't help. I continued with my walk. Is someone following me? I turned around, but there was no one. I bumped into something and spilled my drink. Great. I don't have luck. I'm not surprised. The day started well but ended terribly. If I had somewhere else to sleep, I would've done it.
- Jay?
- Kally? What are you doing here?
- I decided to go out. It's not that hot. Are you ok? It's like someone ran over you. - she said, chuckling
- It's true. That was my mom.
- Don't you think you argue with her too much?
- Are you on her side?
- No, but can't you talk to her? Maybe don't say anything.
- You won't understand. The worst thing is that everyone thinks I look like her.
- You think the same, don't you?
- I don't know her much, but you will go until the end of whatever you want.
- I won't let her win. The winner is only one, and that will be.
- Look. I can quit. Well, I don't want you to go to a military school.
- She won't do it.
- I think she will. After all, I want to see you at university next year.
- Why?
- Why not?
- I haven't seen you that often.
- We study different things. On average, I see you and your brothers twice a week. It's not much.
- That is interesting. Maybe we can see each other.
- It's called destiny.
I never thought I would talk with Kally about this. Part of me is happy about this. She is a good listener, even if she doesn't like me. It's not like I do. Let's say that we are different. The other thing is that I can't ignore rule number four. We play, don't date. I made this because of what happened. I won't let myself go that deep with a girl ever again. I became a new person. No matter what they try, no one will get me. Kally is good, but our house is not for her. She better find someone to give her what she wants. Her days as a babysitter will be gone soon. I hope that we can still see each other.
