Chapter 13

Valens POV

Her breathing is heavy. I could have lost her. I kiss her forehead and let my lips linger. I can't believe I didn't see this coming. How the hell did they get over my borders? How did this happen?

"I'm so sorry, Val. I should have.. I couldn't.. I'm sorry." Valeria is standing behind me sobbing. This is not her fault. This is not Sages fault either. It's that prick over there.

"It's not your fault, Valeria." I don't take my eyes off Sage. I can't. Cain is furious and want out but I'm not leaving her. Valeria touches my shoulder and give it a squeeze.

"I'm sorry." She walks away and I turn my head and look at the human girl. She's sobbing. Her eyes is glossy and she keep her eyes on Sage.

"Get rid of her, Jayden." I order my beta. The girl look at me and tears run down her cheeks. I look at Sage again and rise from the ground. I expect Jayden to move but he doesn't.

"Didn't you hear me, Jay? Get rid of her. Now." I snap. But he looks like he has seen a ghost.

"Jayden! Now." I snarl out loud. He looks at me.

"No." My eyebrows shots up. Did he just say no? Cain is snarling in my head. 'Punish him. Kill him!' He yells.

"What the hell do you mean with no? I'm ordering you to kill her. Now kill her." Cain is trying to take over and I almost let him.

"She's my mate, Val." He looks at me with defeated eyes and my eyes widens. His mate? That can't be, she's a human. I narrow my eyes.

"So? She's a human. You can't be mated to a human." I state. If he thinks I will let him accept her, he's wrong. His eyes flashes black and he stands in front of her.

"You don't get to decide that. You have Sage." He growls at me and I lose my temper.

"I'm your Alpha. What I say goes. You can't accept her! Or you will no longer be my beta!" I roar so loud the trees shake. He looks at me with wide eyes but narrows them after a second.

"Fine, then I'm no longer your beta!" He roars right back. Cain takes over my body and step closer to him.

"I, Alpha King Valens, hereby remove your title as my beta. You will no longer be allowed in my palace and you will live near the border." I growl out with my Alpha voice. He hiss and fall to the ground. I turn around and take Sage to the hospital.

'Stupid mutt. Giving up his position for a human.' Cain growls in my mind. A bad taste forms in my mouth but I shake my head. If he wants her so bad, he can't be my beta. That's it.

I walk into the hospital and people surround us immediately. Nurses bring a gurney and I place Sage on it. They roll her away in a hurry and I stand back. How the hell did this happen? I almost lost my mate and I don't have a beta anymore. What a day.

"Alpha! The Queen is looking for you." Galvin walks up to me. I turn around and take the clothes he's handing to me. I put on the shorts and the t-shirt.

"Not now Galvin." I reply without looking at him.

"But Alpha, the Queen is insisting.." He says but I cut him off with a growl.

"I said not now! My Queen is right in there. My mother can wait." I look at him and he nod. He walks away without a word and I take a deep breath. Breath god dammit, Valens!

Sage's POV

I feel cold. I felt my mates warmth just a minute ago and now he's gone. Why? Did he leave me? Did he finally see who I really am? Broken and not even pure. No wonder he didn't want me. I'm a failure. I'm not worthy of his love or his mark. I'm just.. me.

A deep growl startles me and I open my eyes. Where am I? Where is Valens? I look around the room and I'm all alone. My head feels empty, why can't I feel Sia? What is going on? Another feral growl pulls me out of my head and I turn my head to the door. I pull myself up and down from the bed. I can hear voices outside my room and I can smell Valens. I take a deep breath and open the door just in time to see Valens punching Jayden in the face. I gasp but he continues to hit him. What the hell?

"You're not allowed in here! Get that human away from my mate!" His voice is deep and raw. It's not his own voice but the voice of his wolf. What is going on? The girl from the forest is standing a couple of meters away, sobbing out loud. Warriors is standing on each end of the hall but no one interferes. Why? Jayden just takes the hit.

"Valens." I whisper his name but he can't hear me. He's growling to loud. I take a step closer and the warriors look at me with wide eyes. The girl stops sobbing when she sees me but Valens continues.

"Valens please stop." Once again he doesn't hear me or he just ignores me. I walk over to him and touch his lifted arm. He tense from my touch.

"Valens please." I beg him to stop. He turn his face to the side and several emotions swirl in his eyes. He rise from the ground in a second and then he hugs me. He exhales a shaky breath and pulls me even tighter. I take a deep breath, his scent coats me like a warm blanket. People around us starts to talk again and the tension is lessened.

Jayden gets up from the floor and Valens pulls me behind him before I get a chance to squeak. He growls low and threatening. What is going on?

"He's not my beta anymore. He wants the human as his mate and he can. Just not as my beta." Valens says out loud and I furrow my brows. Is he serious?! I push past him but he only growls at me.

"Stop it, Valens. He's your beta. End of story." I growl out and everyone stops talking. I push past him again and he lets me. Jayden is covered in blood and bruises. He's healing but marks from an Alpha will take longer. The girl is standing beside him, holding his hand. So they're really mates.

"I'm sorry, My Queen. This is not Jaydens fault, I'm the one who wanted to talk to you and thank you." The girl says to me with a calm voice. She's not afraid, that's odd. The look in her eyes makes me curious. I take a step closer but Valens pulls me back. I turn around and cup his face between my hands.

"I'm going to talk to her no matter what you say. Nothing will happen to me. I can take care of myself." I kiss him and he groans. God I have missed him even if we fought like hell yesterday. I pull away and look at Jayden.

"You're is beta again. No matter what he says." I say with a small smile although Valens hiss by my words. I turn back to him and give him a small peck on his soft lips. I will hurry back. He nods and I turn around.

"Lets talk." I say to the girl. I walk over to her and take her hand. She looks back at Jayden but I keep pulling her away. I open the exit door and the fresh wind blows in my face. I sigh, let go of her hand and turn around.

"What's your name?" I ask her. Lets start simple. She looks at me with wide eyes.

"A-amara, my Queen." I sigh.

"Please don't call me that. I'm not a Queen." I state. Her heart beat speeds up.

"I'm sorry. Jayden said that.." I cut her off with a shrug.

"I don't want to be the Queen. I'm not worthy of that title. I'm not worthy of Valens." I feel Sia stirring in my mind. She nods her head slowly.

"How did he catch you? Jason." I ask her and her body tense up. She's still covered in cuts and bruises, her body is littered in purple marks. Her face is swollen from his hits. But she's still so calm.

"He found me at a.. bar. I was working at a bar known by wolf, the management was friends with several wolves there. I- I was working one night and Jason came in. My boss ordered me to serve him and I did but he wanted more. He - he forced himself on me and my boss.." A sob cuts her off and tears stream down her face.

"I'm sorry you had to go through that. It's - it's not easy." I try to comfort her but my words won't help her. Only time will. She looks at me and nod.

"Jayden said something bad happened to you too. That you have experienced something horrible." She sniffs and wipe the tears away.

"I have. You will get better." I tell her, hoping she will find comfort in my words. She gives me a small smile.

"So you know everything about werewolves?" I ask her and she nods.

"I grew up near a pack, some of my friends is wolves. I'm not afraid if that's what you're asking me." She tells me with a smile.

"I don't care if you're afraid. I only care about the fact that we can trust you. I don't know why Valens is against you or humans in general but he must have a good reason. Don't break our trust and you can stay." My tone is neutral.. If my mate doesn't like her I have to trust him. She looks at me with wide eyes before she gives me a nod.

"I hear you. I will do anything to show you that you can trust me." She says with confidence. I walk past her and enter the hospital again. Valens is by my side right away.

"Are you okay?" He takes my face in his hand and kiss me. God I have missed his touch. Sia is stirring again in my mind, his scent is making her stronger. He takes a step back and look at my face.

"I'm fine. Just a little tired." I tell him with a smile. He gives me a bright smile and peck my lips. He takes my hand and pulls me to the exit.

"Alpha!" Jayden calls behind us. Valens turns with a growl and red eyes glowing.

"We will talk later, Jay. Come to my office tomorrow 8 o'clock." He tells him without looking at him. I look over my shoulder and give Jayden a smile and a nod. He returns it but looks somehow lost. Valens pulls me out of the hospital and we walk to the house. I wonder why he's acting like this? What did humans ever do to him?
