Chapter 6: Welcome back, Arthur.

1155 Words
Sia's Point of View A month has passed since that dinner. I didn't know where he was. We attempted to call the number he had previously provided, but no one answered. While he was away, I focused on obtaining a secure work, and Celine offered me the position of secretary. She maintained her pledge to look after me. "So, any update about Mr. CEO?" Celine inquired as we rode the elevator to her office. "Still no, and I don't want to talk about him anymore," "Smells like someone was ghosted," she remarked, laughing. "Oh, shut up, Cel," I said as I exited the elevator before the door had even fully opened. Celine never missed an opportunity to torment me about Arthur; she did it virtually every day. "Oh gosh, I am so tired." "You still have one meeting left, Cel," I said. "Are you able to cancel it?" "Could I please go home earlier?" "No, we adjusted this meeting too many times, I'm pretty sure this investor will be mad," "Damn it," I giggled at her annoyance. To calm her down, I made her a drink. While I was at the counter, my phone rang. There was no caller ID displayed on the screen. "Hello?" I answered. "Good day, Ms. Moore!" "Thank God, you haven't changed your phone number," the speaker said. "Alvin?!" I recalled, how could I have forgotten his name? "Yes, Yes!" I heard the man laugh, and it was great to hear his voice again. "Hey! I haven't heard from you in a long time!" "Yeah.. I couldn't, I was in vacation" Is he still with Arthur? I was too shy to inquire if he was okay now. He was weeping his eyes out the last time I saw him. "I do have favor to ask you Ms." "What is it?" Shivers ran down my spine. "I want you so fetch Mr. Arthur at the airport," "What? Why me?" "I need to do some errands for him," Hearing his name set my palms sweating and my pulse pounding at the same time. It was like music to my ears. I want to greet him given that I miss him. "Okay, I'll do it," I said in Alvin's favor. I hung up the phone and walked to Celine. She was overjoyed when she heard the news, and I felt very fortunate to have a friend like her. We concluded our day's work and went straight home. "I can't wait to see him," I said quietly. "Gosh, I really thought you both had no chance anymore," "Cel, maybe he just came back because of work," It didn't matter to me if it was work-related or not; all I cared about was getting to see him once again. I knew I wasn't that special to him because we'd just eaten dinner together before. After thinking about that, there was a tiniest twinge of discomfort. "It doesn't matter, the important thing was you will be able to see his handsome face again, right?" "Right," Celine's remarks made me grin; I should be thinking more positively from now on. *The following day* Because I was so restless the night before, I got up bright and early to get ready to leave for the airport. Alvin emailed me information about Arthur's flight. I asked Celine if I could use her car, and she agreed. I arrived to the airport on schedule, got my sign ready, and then waited for him to arrive. After a short while of waiting, I finally spotted him. His bulky body sticks out from the crowd, and he was too tall for you not to notice him. As soon as I saw his face, I had the perception that fireworks were going off all around me, and although everything seemed to be moving at a snail's pace at the time, I still managed to put up a sign that said "Welcome back, Arthur" and put on a wide smile. He finally noticed me and was taken aback that I was the one who had been waiting for him. He is not surrounded by bodyguards. "Sia?" When he spoke my name, I experienced a wave of weakness wash over me. "Welcome back," I said. "How did you know that I'm coming today?" "Alvin told me, he asked me for a favor and I agreed," "Oh, that old man," "Hey, he's not that old," "Woah, are you two best friends already?" "Stop it, so why did you come back?" As we made our way to where I had parked my car, we carried on a conversation the whole way. The sound of his voice never altered; it remained strong and authoritative the entire time; nonetheless, I get a sense of melancholy from the tone of his voice; perhaps it was because of the woman whose name was Margaret. There are a lot of questions I have about her, but not right now. "I came back because of work," he stated unequivocally. "Oh, I see," I thought you'd come to see me. In any case, why would he? As I already stated, I was not that special to him. "What was that?" "Nothing," When I opened the door to my car, he stopped me just as I was about to sit down in the driver's seat. "Hey, can I drive instead?" "Oh, uhm..," I was unable to utter a single word because he was standing so close to me, and I could feel his breath all over my face. "Please?" "Umm.. yeah.. sure," He smirked and stepped into the car. When I turned around to go back to the passenger's seat, I found myself wondering why he hadn't started driving the car yet. When I looked at him, I noticed that he was gazing right at me. Arthur bent over, and I didn't know what to do. Then I understood that he had grabbed the seatbelt so that he could put it on me. My soul left my body, and I wanted to pass out at that same second; at the same time, I felt like I needed to throw up. However, a deep sigh escaped my lips. "Hahaha, you're so cute," "No, I'm not," That was the first time I heard him chuckle; he was always so solemn. "So, why don't you have bodyguards, and why wasn't anyone there to pick you up?" "Are you expecting me?" I was actually interested when Alvin told me he couldn't attend because of something, like he didn't have any buddies or whatever. "Because no one, expect Alvin wants to pick me up." He replied with a smile. "Why?" "Because I am mean to everyone, and my employees was scared of me," "But.. you seems so nice," "No, that's why everyone was leaving me," The look on Arthur's face shifted, and his dark eyes appeared yet again. Is that how all CEOs are? What dark sides did this man have?
