Leila continues walking to Bastian’s chamber and only relaxes when she gets to the door, letting out the air she had been holding.
The guards announced her presence and she was ushered in, just as one of his men stepped out.
“Rumours of your conquest precede you, Leila,” Bastian greeted her with a smile.
“I’m afraid I do not follow,” Leila replied.
“Well, I just received a report that you exchanged words with Evile.”
“Oh, that. Well, it was about time. She has treated me like a leper since I came into this place.”
“Seeing as you came to live here and built your pack within, it’s no surprise she hates you. You and your men are meant to be dead already…”
“And we are most grateful that you granted us our lives and provided other things we have needed to survive till present. However, her hatred has been somewhat different from others and today I found out why.”
Bastian looked at her for a long time, “ Well, I was hurt though,. I heard you mentioned not having an interest in me, and never planning to…” he said with a low sigh, standing up and walking over to her.
“My Lord, you know what I meant.”
“And you know how much I wish I could change your mind. I mean, where has this mate of yours been these past 5 years? If it weren't for me, you would be long dead.”
“I know and I am most grateful, but your people will never accept me, they can barely tolerate me. The sooner I get out, the better for us all,” Leila replied.
“It’s not up to them to accept you. As long as you accept me,” he said as he closed the gap between them, his hands trailing over her collarbone.
“Bastian,” Leila muttered, her body squirming uncomfortably. Today was a big day and she certainly didn’t want to lose focus.
“If you say so, anyway, I called you today to ask about the battle for today. How prepared are you?”
“As best as we can, I believe we have a lot going in our favour…”
“What do you mean?”
“They are not expecting any form of attack soon, not to mention it happening tonight. So, as long as it stays that way, then we will surely overtake them even if they resist us a little.”
“Hmmm, and what if they are expecting an attack? What is your escape plan?” Bastian further asked.
Of course, Leila understood that this was a vital part of war planning; the escape. She had been a student of Bastian for over 4 years, learning and planning how to get back her revenge on the man who caused the death of her parents, not to mention her exile.
“We have developed a retreat strategy for our team. But considering how formidable Dante’s pack lands are, I hope it doesn't get to that point, because that would mean we are dead meat already and our escape might not be successful.”
“At least you have it planned. That’s better than not preparing for it at all.”
“Thank you Lord Bastian,”Leila mentioned to him as she made to leave.
“Wait.” Bastian called out and came down from his majestic throne, walking to her. .
“What is it? Why…” she couldn’t complete her words as Bastian gave her a quick peck on the lips, while hugging her fiercely.
“Come back safe Leila”, he says, still holding her, his eyes laced with deep affection and emotions.
“I will.” Leila replied slowly, obviously shocked by the display of affection. She slowly disengages herself from the embrace and walks out of the throne room.
Outside, she met Evile, still standing. It would seem like she wanted attendance with Bastuan and was waiting for Leila to leave.
“You shouldn’t get too comfortable, you know, it will take just one word from Bastian and you and all your people will be wiped out, and I’ll be there with the knife in your throat,” Evile commented.
“Hahahahaha… Well, unlike you, I know my place and I know what to expect” Leila replies and walks off, once again leaving Evile annoyed once again.
A man walks into the area from behind the pillars, his nose often reminds Evile of Pinnochios' nose. She wondered how much of the conversation with Leila he had heard. Collin was Bastian’s right-hand man and best friend, so she was afraid he might tell Bastian on her.
“You know, you should consider taking her advice,” Collin said, walking past her and into the chamber and hence confirming her suspicions.
Evile stomped her feet on the floor, “Arrrghhhh, Bitch.”
