The mood best described in the office was, well. Depressed and with a slight chance of Moody.
Emma was depressed, Aiden was moody. The engagement was days away and clock was ticking. Why did she even obsess over it? She thinks, typing rather angirly in the keyboard. She looks at Aiden's office. He rubbed his head alot, cracked his knuckles. sighing. Yeah. Moody.
She stares at the tab open in documents. She stares and stares. Her stomach hurts.
She closes the document, deciding lunch was needed. She brought back Aiden's usual from the take out deli. She places it on her desk, "So you don't forget to eat today- because judging by your expression its going to be one of those days."
He smiles, "You know me so well." He comments
She blushes, yeah right.
Emma could always make things better for him, even a crappy day like today. He sighs.
"So, this about the rouge. or Amber."
"Both." He comments
"Well my place I stock for grocries closed off to humans."
"I'm sorry." He says
She shrugs "Its only temperorary they said. My friend works there. Saw it happen actually. Pretty gross stuff."
"Hopefully it doesn't escalate." He offers.
"As for the Amber thing, it's not my buisness." She says dismissively, even her inside was screaming don't marry that b***h.
He pauses, If only she were like you.
"Do, you even like her?" She asks, she stops "I'm sorry I shouldn't have asked." She quickly says
"No, its uhm a valid question." He sighs "When we first dated, I, she was different, then. She started this, new perosnality I guess. Complete 180."
She pauses "Humans do that too, they have a different personality, then when they think you're into them enough, to not even care anymore. Their true colors show." She sighs "Can't imagine that, must be so exhausting to have so many sides."
Aiden looks at her, "What about you?"
She blinks, "What you see is what you get. That seems so tiring."
Aiden laughs "I mean- relationship wise."
Her face falls. "Oh no. Uhm not, for me I think."
He frowns.
Truth is, she was always rejected. She grew out of foster care because no one adopted her, or saw anything in her. She always wondered if something, was wrong with her to make even humans not want her. Wolves? forget it. Chrissy liked her because they were alike, outcasts.
She clears her throat. "Anyway-I-"
Amber comes in, throwing dagger glaring eyes at her, piercing. She jumps down from his desk, ducking her glares.
"I- came to buy lunch." She pouts and see's his take out "But I see you already have some."
"Yeah, Emma just brought me lunch."
"Dinner then, later?" Amber asks
He nods. Cringing inwardly. She leans down and kisses him "Tonight." She turns, giving Emma another cold stare.
Emma swallows, She leaves too.
Amber grabs her arm hard, squeezing it tightly, bruising it "You little office, Slut." She growls.
"Aiden. is MINE." Her claws dig in
She winces. "W-what are you talking about?"
"I see how you look at him, how he looks at you. Just remember you are nothing but a lowly human who he pities! pity. nothing more than that. Anything else dream on!"
"He will be MINE by the end of the week. I swear to the lunar goddess, if you ruin my day. I will make your existence Hel!" She snarls
Emma laughs "Oh please, that would have to imply your idel threats mean something!"
She hits her hard. "You little cub, You are just a stupid human stray he picked up. No one wants you here anyway."
"You better either leave, or if you remain here you will have me to answer and I will not be plesant to some low life human scum." She spat
She lets her go, Emma swallows thickly, She would not dare to talk back to Amber. Satisfied Amber flips her golden hair back and leaves.
Emma leans against the wall. Leaving would be cowardice, right? tail between her legs. Her stomach hurt. But she was right, no one wanted her at all. And maybe Aiden only ever felt sorry for her. But it didn't change how much loyalty she had for him. Even if it was only he liked her for pity.
Gods she was pathetic. She wipes her tears and goes home.
The next day:
She comes in, Aiden growls lowly. Seeing the bruise.
"Who. Touched you."
She jumps, "uhm er no one. I fell."
He sniffs. "It has Amber's scent."
She looked away, embarassed. "Amber is just jealous. All woman are. Don't worry about it."
"I know she verbally abuses you. Emma, why haven't you said anything." He asks, concerned
Whoa, was this really Aiden Blackwood?
"They all do. Aiden. They- don't like me here" She smiles sadly "Don't worry about it."
"But Emma-" He protests
"Don't. It, doesn't matter anyway."
His face falls. You do matter. He thinks.
She swallows. "You, are the only one here who treats me like, you know I am worth something."
He frowns, "But you are, you're worth more than any of those omegas."
She smiles "That's sweet. But, this is what its like as human. Aiden."
She hops off his desk and goes back to work. His brother comes in, looking miserable. "Great it's so MOODY in here."
"Shut it." Aiden growls
"Yeah that checks, both you are in a mood today." He grunts "Anyway I have ring." He opens the box
Very lavish, clear cut diamond, big enough to satisfy Amber's delight. He feels sick. He snaps it shut. "I'm headed out."
He grabs his jacket for a walk.
Blaze walks over to Emma, "Hey what's with Aiden."
"The rouge thing. And the Amber thing."
His brother winces.
"He's having doubts not that a blame him."
Blaze see's the bruise, "Did Amber do that?"
"Yeah she's a jealous bitch."
He sighs "Both our funerals." "At least you can leave, I am stuck with her."
Emma is quiet.
"Oh my god you are leaving." He hisses "Seriously-"
"I've, been thinking about it." She admits
"For a While now." She looks at him
"Well. Damn." He sighs
"I, just, so much has happened and I felt like I couldn't leave you know?"
His face softens "You know, for a human you care alot for him. Probably more loyal than this group anyway."
She smiles "Thanks Blaze."
"Where will you go?" He asks
"Ice city probably. Koda has been wanting me to visit, maybe travel a bit." She says with a hopeful smile.
He sighs, "Well. We'll miss you. I know Aiden will. But I don't blame you for leaving."
"Thanks." She says
He leaves. Aiden comes back, burrying himself in work, it's getting late, he needed dinner with Amber. His wolf was not happy at all.
Emma looked at him, she had to do it tonight, the engagement was tomorrow. Anything else after would spell out doom for her. Was she really risking a life of misery under Amber? No, she had too much going on for that.
She hit print. She is shaking. She feels sick. She doesn't want to leave, and she feels bad, he looks, so sad. Would he be okay without her? she wonders. Who would replace her? She presses her lips together. No. She had to do it now.
He looks up. Something was up. She swallows, she hands him the document.
He reads it.
Resignation for, Emma Blake. Effective Immediately.
It was signed and dated.
He looks at her, the paper, then her. "You- can't be serious." He chokes out. Tonight? she had to do this? now? leave him now?
She looked upset, she nods "I, have been wanting to uhm for a while now." She said quietly "Just, it was never the right time and, you always seemed stressed, and I didn't want to add to that. So. I just. Didn't."
Silence. "Is someone making you? is Amber? Is-"
She stops him "Aiden. They- don't like me here. They always talk about me behind my back." She was almost in tears, but she was trying to show up for Aiden.
She swallows, "No one likes me here, and, with Amber, it was hard. It's hard to be where I am not wanted. I'm an outcast here Aiden." She said softly
"I can-"
She shakes her head. "You know, what it's like for me?" She asks him
He frowns.
She swallows "It- feels like, I am an intruder living someone elses life. All the time. I don't fit in, not even with humans who want me."
"I was always rejected. My only friends are Koda, and a Kitsune."
She smiles sadly "I lived out my entire life in Foster care. Is how I even met Koda. We lived together for two years. But, he accepted me. We were both outcasts in human eyes."
He looked at her, not knowing her difficulties.
She swallows "Anyway, I just had to learn to get smart, and, I took advantage of school clawed my way through." "Survival of the fittest right?"
He looked at her with new light and admiration.
"You- were the only one to see me." She smiles "And I can't thank you enough for ever giving me this life and oppertunity." She bows, "Thank you, Alpha Aiden."
He felt everything ripped from him. No, no she couldn't leave, she couldn't no. His wolf cried.
She kisses his cheek gently, turns and leaves, He grabs her hand and pulls her to him. Staff was still there, curiously looking on. She swallows. Her heart pounding. He hugs her, "Please." He begs "Stay."
She has tears down her face. He feels it, everything in him vibrating. Crushing.
She lingers a bit. "I need to, Aiden. I hope you live a good life with your new Luna."
She wipes her tears, composing herself, and grabbing her belongings and leaves.
He is in shock.
Everything in him screamed, Emma. Emma Blake. Was his mate. His human. Mate. And, she just left him.
