CHAPTER NINETEEN

1006 Words
Selene returned to the seat and resumed work. She sat unmoving for hours as she just typed, read and typed again. Work helped to keep all her worries out but often than not, she found her thoughts drifting to Vance but she caught herself each time. She had pressing matters, now was not the time to be carried away by dicking around and heavens knew she meant that phrase literally. She tried to keep her father, the Nobles and their betrayal out of her thoughts but it proved more difficult than she thought so, she just tried to delve deeper and deeper in work. She did have a lot to do to begin with so it was quite easy. Having been sitting in the same spot and in the same position for hours her neck soon began to hurt and her bum grew num. Her fingers however, were holding up quite nicely and she knew she would be able to go on if the others weren't as bad. She rolled her eyes and arched her back supporting her neck with one of her hands as she did so. She didn't stop stretching until she heard a loud c***k and she let out a gasp in relief. She then stood to her feet and stretched her hands to the ceiling, stretching out those stiff muscles. She checked the time and she still had a couple hours before the sun would set. However, she was done for the day which meant she could go home if she wanted to. The only problem was there were a lot of things she needed to report to her father and she wasn't all that pleased with the fact that she had to do that . She didn't want to see him again today. Tomorrow would probably be too late and more so she didn't want to start a new day with a gloomy conversation with her father. It would ruin the rest of her day like it ruined this one. She growled loudly and resisted the urge to kick the table. She had tried it before, it wasn't pleasant and she almost broke her leg. She wasn't in the mood for that kind of pain. She was good. She closed her eyes tightly as she shut down the computer. She could be on her now but for some reason she didn't want to face him just yet so she figured she could spend a couple minutes at a nearby restaurant. She was hungry after all and breakfast wasn't that much of a breakfast. She was sure there was something she could eat while still in the office but she couldn't stand to be here for much longer, somehow it felt like a prison. Picking up the system and her purse, she cross-checked to make sure she wasn't forgetting anything before she quickly made her way out of the office and into the elevator. She headed straight for her car, it wasn't that she thought the manager was going to come after her but she wasn't about to give him a chance to be able to approach her. She started the car and drove out of the parking lot. She didn't have to drive more than two minutes before the restaurant she had in mind came into view. She slid into the parking lot so haphazardly, it was a miracle she didn't scratch any of the cars on either side of her. She sighed and picked her purse as she walked out of the car. Her meal was fast as it was quick. She wanted something light as she intended to cook for herself when she got home and she didn't want to face her father on an empty stomach. The meal was over in a jiffy even though she didn't want to rush but still she did and ended up having to wait a couple minutes extra just for the sake of waiting. Eventually, she got up and walked out of the restaurant. The drive back to the mansion was slow. She wasn't in a hurry to get there, she totally wished she didn't have to but she had found that there were situations she obviously couldn't control. She parked carefully, unconsciously noting that Manuel had not rushed to her side. She didn't bother locking the car nor did she take the key out of the engine, she intended to make this conversation as fast as humanly possible. The huge doors opened to let her into the mansion, creaking a little at the hinges and her first thought was it needed oiling but that was none of her business. Pam was at the entrance bowing a little as soon as the doors opened. "Selene, welcome back." Pam greeted her. Selene could still see her bright smile even though the maid had her head bent. "Where is my father?" She asked stiffly, scolding herself a little for ignoring the poor child's regards. "His bedroom, I believe. He took a break after the lawyer, Cedric left about an hour ago." Pam rushed out, giving out too much information that Selene asked for. Selene tried to meet her expression straight but she couldn't help but wonder what the heck her father and Cedric must have been discussing that it had taken that long for them.to round it up. "Alright, that would be all." She started to make her way to his room when Pam's words stopped her. "What would you like to eat princess? Lunch is over but I can quickly ask Topher to prepare whatever you want. I am sure he would be pleased to do so." Pam looked away from Selene as she spoke as if she knew she was overstepping. Selene froze in her steps, almost regretting that she had taken a stop at the restaurant but she quickly recalled that she was on a rebellious streak and this was one of the reasons she had left the house to go work in the company building even though she hated it.
