CHAPTER TWELVE

1072 Words
"Um, I guess." She still had no idea what was going on. "Aren't you going to give me your number or at least your address?" It took everything for Selene not to laugh out loud but she could see the seriousness on his face so she controlled herself. She walked back to him and carefully ran a finger through his hair. "There's no need for that. I know your address, I can find you when I want to." She winked and stepped away. He grabbed her arm, halting her movements. "You're serious." He muttered, it wasn't really a question. She chuckled, "Don't look so glum, we would see again. I just don't see why I have to give you all that information when I can just show up at your house." Selene saw his jaw move and braced herself for a verbal assault but nothing he was going to say was going to change her mind. It was bad enough that she followed him home but anything from henceforth was going to be on her terms. However, Vance doesn't say a word but rather he slowly lets go of her hand. "Okay, when will I see you again?" His acceptance sort of deflated her energy and for a few seconds she was unsure of how to respond. "I guess, you would find out." She grinned and clutched the hand he had abandoned, holding tightly as she turned around. He did not move a muscle as he watched her walk to the door, however, his gaze on her didn't falter. Selene gripped the doorknob, expecting some kind of resistance and she didn't mean from the door. However, none came and the door opened without a hassle. She slowly closed it behind her as she made a conscious effort not to look back. It was just a random night with an even more random stranger, it wasn't a big deal. Yet, she couldn't explain why her feet felt heavy as she walked, why the urge to run back and tell him about herself was so strong, why leaving felt like a part of her was being torn. It was probably the s*x, she murmured to herself. She would be fine as soon as she was out of here. She got to her car and started the engine, fleeing before the weak part of her took control and ran back to the house. True, his bed was comfortable but it wasn't the only thing she was thinking about. She sighed as she drove out of the gate, grateful to be out of his vicinity, hopefully now she would be able to clear her head. No sooner was she out of the gates that she pulled her phone out of her purse to call her father, he picked on the first ring. "Where have you been? I was worried sick!" He barked at her as soon as he picked without giving her a chance to say anything. "I am fine, father." She muttered, rolling her eyes as she spoke. The last thing she wanted to do was tell her father where she had been or what she had been doing. "That doesn't say anything, Selene!" He was really angry, she could tell after he called her name in that really weird tone of his. It was so formal, it made her cringe. She sighed, "Oh and um, your decision to marry me off to the Blackwood without giving me a say in the matter, does?" Her counterpoint was dumb she knew but her father was straying from the path, she hated when he yelled at her. It was his fault she had run out of the meeting and switched off her phone. Why was he yelling at her like she did this on a wimp? His anger drained instantly, his voice softened leaving nothing but worry. "Where are you?" He asked softly. "Does it matter or do you want to restrict my movements? Get spies to watch my every move now, since I won't do as you say?" Okay, this was getting out of hand and she was being preposterous. However, she wasn't about to make light of the issue and unless her father was ready to see his decision was the dumbest ever, she would keep making these preposterous points. She heard him sigh and knew he had his hand to his nose. It was his go-to move especially when he was stressed. She cringed, her father wasn't getting any younger she hated having to put him through this but he must have been out of his mind when he thought she was going to sit back, smile, and accept this peace treaty. Not on her cold vampire soul. "No, Selene, none of those and…" He gasped, pausing for a while, it was obvious he didn't know how to approach this. "When can I see you?" She rolled her eyes, "Not today. I am taking the day off. I will see what I can do tomorrow." Her father sighed again, "Alright, what time tomorrow?" "I will report in as usual!" She replied brutishly. She couldn't think of when she had ever spoken to her father in that tone and a part of her wanted to tone it down a little but the most part of her didn't. "Okay then." He replied and went silent. "Would that be all, father?" Her tone was still cold and she really wanted to get off the phone. However, she hated that she was this strict with him but she was angry and in all her life she couldn't think of a time she had ever been angry at her father, it was a new feeling and she didn't like it. "Yes, Selene. If you need anything, do not hesitate to call." "Yeah, I hear you." And with a loud click, she ended the call, and banging her hands on the steering wheel she yelled, "f**k!" As loudly as she could but her car was soundproof and tinted so, the other cars had to clue what was going on. She rested her head a little on the steering wheel, abruptly stopped driving but thankfully the traffic light turned red at that exact moment. A huge part of her was grateful, she needed these seconds of quiet, to get her mind in order and to assimilate her situation, and understand what the heck she was going to do now.
