CHAPTER SIXTY-THREE

516 Words
None of the options he could think of seemed like the right path to follow but one thing was sure he needed to give her some time alone, if he had rushed out after her whilst she had been driving away he would have regretted it, without a doubt. The guards pushed open the door and Vance walked in without a moment's thought. The air felt different. It was thicker, tender, Vance wondered what had happened while he was away but he didn't give it much thought because he was sure it didn't go as badly as his encounter with Selene had gone. They all turned their attention to him with hopeful gazes. Vance almost laughed, if they didn't have a hold on her, they somehow expected that he, a complete and total stranger to her, somehow had a hold on her. Just because he had marked her didn't mean squat. The only reason he had been able to do so was because she didn't know and to be honest, he had not tried it out of ill intent. He had not expected it to work and even if it did, he could not undo it. The second time she appeared at his house, he had thought she knew but she had shown no signs of knowing and he had been so happy at her company that he could not dare bring up a topic that would ruin it. He didn't even know how he would explain it and had let it slide that a better opportunity would arise and after she left he heard about the meeting. He could tell his father had kept it away from him on purpose. However, try as he might, he had not been able to wiggle his way out of it. He walked slowly and with purpose, he didn't spare anyone a glance as he walked to his seat. They all waited, following his movements with their eyes. Vance felt the weight of their stares and ignored it. It was his mess but technically they all had more to lose than he did. His father, the treaty, same with his father's advisors. Kova Valak, his daughter, and an opportunity to finally bring down the opposition that had been hunting them for years. The Nobles, a chance to spread their territories and a peace treaty with the Blackwood. He, however, all he could think about was the s*x and the fact that he didn't like sleeping alone as much all of sudden. There was also the fact that he wanted to cook for her, it was odd but he did like the way she ate his food. He adjusted the chair and placed his hands on the table. The fact that they were all watching his every move was very unnerving. He knew he was making his movements excruciatingly slow but what else could he do, considering he didn't have the answers they wanted. "How did it go?" Kova asked, breaking the unnerving silence. Vance didn't answer immediately but stared at every one of them before he opened his mouth.
