Chapter 8. How, what, why?

LILY POV

Oh My Goddess! What is happening, scratch that… this can’t be happening. I CAN NOT be mated to the Alpha. there is no way he will accept me. I’m nothing. I am a useless waste of space and I’m very good at being invisible. I can’t not be a Luna… no way, no how. I shake my head, with tears in my eyes as I turn and run away as fast as I can. I run until I hit the woods, then I shift and keep going never looking back.

Jamie POV

I had just started looking over the papers when I smell this incredible scent. It smelled of strawberries and vanilla. Jax is going absolutely crazy in my head. I rush to the door so I can go find the source of this delicious scent. I open the door and there stands Lily. Our eyes meet and… MATE. Oh goddess I’m the luckiest guy in the whole world. She is going to be an amazing Luna. She is so sweet and kind and caring and amazing with the pack pups, even when they are making her life really difficult. I realize I’ve just been starring at her and never actually said anything other than mate. I blink and look again and she is gone. What, she ran from me. Why, is she afraid of me? Just thinking about that, makes Jax whine in my head. Why did she run, we need to find her, we need her, we need her NOW. With that I’m off, I run down the hallway and down the stairs. I run out of the doors and try to follow her scent. “Damn, our mate is fast.” Jax is trying to sniff her, I’m almost at the woods and I’m about to shift when I catch it again and it’s getting stronger. I shift midair, not caring about my clothes at the moment and bolt into the forest. I’m almost to her when I hear crying. I stop almost instantly, I’m still in the trees and with her being distracted I’m not sure she knows I’m here. She is starting to not just sniffle but sobbing into her hands. My heart aches just wanting to run to her and protect her from whatever is making her so upset. Nothing should ever make someone so beautiful cry. “Jax, do you know what’s wrong, can you ask her wolf?” He ignores me which most likely means he’s already doing just that. I wait and wait, just watching her is killing me. “Jax, JAX!” Him ignoring me is not helping my anxiety about her. “Jamie” he sounds so heartbroken in my head. “She is crying about us, she is terrified of having an Alpha mate. She thinks she doesn’t deserve us.” He said this and I let out a fearsome growl. This fortunately and unfortunately made our mate notice us. She stares at me wide eyed and in fear. I’m heartbroken that she could even think about looking at us that way. Gets up from the rock that she was sitting on and I kid you not, she bowed to me. “Wtf why is she bowing to us. Does she not understand she is our only equal?” She doesn’t see it that way Jamie. It hurts but its true. We just have to do everything we can to make her see that. We have to show her she is ours and we love her.” We will Jax, I promise.

I ran to my rock, the safe place where I met Lexi for the first time. I look down in tears. What am I going to do. There is no way that I can do this. How could a worthless waste of space like me be mated to James. He’s the Alpha, and he’s so nice and funny and hella smart. We would have nothing in common, hell I’d feel stupid just talking to him. Not to mention he is absolutely BEYOND gorgeous. Not to mention he is already mated. OMG he is already mated and to Rachel no less. She is going to literally claw my eyes out. I start crying harder as I feel my heart breaking more and more with each passing moment. Don’t worry Lily, we will be fine. Trust me you are not a waste of space! We are special you even saw that last night, why do you still doubt yourself? You are so kind you would be the best mate. I’m about to respond to her when I hear a low loud terrifying growl. My eyes snap up and there stands the biggest wolf I have ever seen. His fur is midnight black, but his eyes, for some reason I know them, I know him. As if on cue, he shifts and stands there in all his naked glory and before I can make a move or say anything, he is walking toward me. A look of pure pain in his eyes, he walks to me and puts his hands up like he didn’t want me to startle. I in turn, bust out laughing. I really can’t remember the last time I laughed this hard, hell I can barely remember the last time I laughed in general. He is giving me this look like he’s not sure if I’m sane with how quickly the tables turned as I calm down. “Hello Alpha. How may I assist you?” I’m almost stuttering as I say his name, omg I’m losing it. My internal debate stops when he growls again, this time not as loud but 100% he’s growling at me. “Why do you keep doing that. Lily I’m here to see you, to find you. You’re my mate.” He says and he sounds so sincere and with such raw emotion. It’s like he feels that I’m rejecting him. “Well b***h with how you’re acting you kinda are. Please just talk to the man! I spoke to his wolf he means us no harm.” “I’m sorry you talked to his wolf already what the hell.” He looks over at me with hope igniting in his eyes. “Can we talk, please?”
