The Blackmail

Hailey sat on the hay that served as a floor in the smelly cell. She had a lot of thoughts going on in her mind. If it was possible, she really wanted to get out of this pack- even though she knew that was mere wool-gathering. Water splashed on her awakening her from her thoughts. She quickly turned to look at the culprit and found Emily standing outside the cell, looking glamorous. She scoffed and looked away. The rotten walls were much better to look at than this disgusting she-wolf before her. "Am I like the sun- too bright for you to stare at?" Emily questioned with a mocking smile. "You've gotten what you want. I'm in prison. Just execute me soon, I know I can't escape," Hailey muttered stubbornly with a scowling expression. "Oh dear. You're wrong. We aren't finished with you yet, Hailey. You are to be my substitute and marry my dear husband, have you forgotten?"Emily asked her before cackling like a hyena. "I'm never going to do such a thing for a despicable person like you," "Alright then. I'll put Selina in prison with you," Emily proposed. This sentence made Hailey look at her with spite evident on her face, "Don't you dare!" she growled as she rushed to hold the bars of the cell's gate. Emily stepped back, avoiding Hailey's hands that had become claws, "Don't be so worked up. I haven't done that yet. I'm only saying that there's a possibility. Besides, you do seem bored here. As your dear younger sister, I will kindly provide you with entertainment by means of that Selina. I'll feed her so much wolfsbane and have the guards torture her so much she would beg for death. Don't worry, fresh popcorn will be provided so you can enjoy the show, sis," Emily mocked her. The incensed Hailey shook the bars, frustrated that she couldn't get out, her fangs had made their appearance, "Don't you dare hurt her. If you dare, I swear, I will bury you and that devilish mother of yours 8 feet below after peeling off your skin alive," she warned with a growl. "I'd like to see how you'll do that," the unbothered Emily said, motioning for the guards to bring a certain person. Soon, the bruised, and weakened Selina was dragged to where Emily stood. After the guards let go of the maid, the latter crashed to the floor, lacking any strength to remain standing. "P-Princess… Don't worry… about me," she managed to say through gritted teeth, blood seeping from her mouth. "Selina," Hailey shook the bars even more on seeing this pitiful sight of her maid. Selina was her late wetnurse's only daughter. She'd promised the deceased that she'd take good care of her child and arrange a good marriage for her when it was time since fated mates were rare in this world. Now seeing Selina in such a state made her feel like she failed her promise to the deceased woman. Damn it! "Big sis, she would suffer less if you wholeheartedly agree to take my place," the shameless Emily said with a sly smirk. Selina shook her head, "No, princess…" "Shut it," Emily kicked the maid hard in the stomach, "who asked you to speak. Guards, take her to the torture hall and prick her stomach with needles," she ordered. "Stop!" Hailey yelled emotionally, "Don't hurt Selina. I agree. I will do as you say. I will be the substitute bride on that day. I beg you, let go of Selina," "Hmn… I don't see your sincerity," Emily arrogantly said. Quickly, Hailey knelt and pressed her palms together, "Please let her go, I beg you, Emily," "Still not sincere enough. Take her to the torture hall," "No…" having no other choice, Hailey began to slap herself for 5 minutes straight as hard as she could. "Okay, I see your sincerity now. I also don't want your face to be ruined before your big day," Emily replied smirkingly and the guards let go of the fainted Selina. "The Luna has ordered that Hailey be released," Emily said to the guards before proudly leaving. Hailey sat on the floor, her eyes teary. Putting up resistance did no good in the end. Instead, poor Selina almost died… She didn't resist when the guards released her from the cell and led her back to her room where another maid, assigned to her by the Luna, cared for her until she looked as spotless as before. *** The wedding day came. Instead of a car arriving to pick her up, she was made to walk on foot escorted by assigned royal guards, dressed in a beautiful white wedding gown, a non-transparent veil covering her face. It was a maid who led the way, holding her hands which were covered in white gloves. No one could see her expression underneath the veil but she was dejected. Selina couldn't follow her to the uncivilized Silver Soul pack. She would die faster there; remaining in this unfair pack would keep her alive longer at least. After reaching the pack's borders, the maid and the royal guards left her all alone. She wasn't expecting much anyway. She waited for quite a long time, but no one came to get her, so she attempted to take off her veil. That was when a masculine voice stopped her, "Princess Emily, please follow me to the carriage," 'Jeez! How did he get this close to me without me noticing at all?' Hailey thought in wonderment. Without asking for permission, the man held her hand and led her towards the carriage. She'd never been in a carriage before. It was the modern world, cars were the norm. But seeing as she was going to a barbarian pack, she wasn't expecting them to come take her to her new home in some fancy car or impressive convoy but the least they could have done was bring a car at least not this carriage. Once she was inside the carriage, the man dropped the curtain and closed the door. Hailey took off her veil and looked around the spacious carriage that had begun to move. The seat was comfy and the carriage had the smell of sandalwood which she found to her liking. She guessed that the man who came to get her was also the coachman as his voice could be heard outside, urging the horses to go faster.
