Kaira returned to consciousness more easily this time. She was expecting to wake up in the medical room, so the beeping of the machines was no surprise to her. She let herself slowly come to until she reached the stage where she thought she could open her eyes. She did it slowly, allowing them time to adjust to the light.
“I told you you’d be fine.”
That was Tarkus, though she couldn’t see well enough to make him out yet.
“I do feel better than I have in quite a while,” she said, surprised that her voice sounded strong. “Have we arrived?”
