“So, I did it,” Enzo whispered to me.
“Oh, I know. Mira practically screamed at me about it.”
“What? Why? She doesn’t know about us, right?”
“I don’t think so.”
“She could.” He admitted.
My head snapped to look over at him. “What do you mean?”
“Well, Mira kinda picked up on my feelings for you and was always hounding me about it.”
“I thought it was just a one time thing when you told her you loved her.”
“No, it’s been an ongoing thing,” Enzo winced. “But I never admitted my feelings or anything like that, so there’s no reason for her to suspect we fucked.”
“Made love, Enzo.” I muttered.
I glanced around to make sure no one else could hear us. We were way behind everyone else, so I hoped we had some kind of privacy.
“Fine, we made love.” He smiled. “I’ve never done that before, you know? It was special.”
Enzo’s fingers danced on my lower back.
“Enzo, please. Not in front of everyone else.”
He pouted. “But I want to touch you. I mean I have this amazing girlfriend and I can’t even tell anyone? That’s annoying.”
“Girlfriend?” I asked.
“I mean, yeah. We’re boyfriend and girlfriend now, right? I mean we have to be after what we did last night.”
“So you’ve dated every girl you’ve had in your bed?” I asked with raised eyebrows.
“I meant with how special what we did was. We were literally levitating, Celine. That has to mean something pretty f*****g special.”
He was definitely right. The only other time I had levitated was when I was sleeping and dreaming of Sela. What was the connection?
I guess Sela was extremely in love with Lev as she argued with her parents about him. And I felt an incredible amount of love with Enzo. So maybe love made me levitate while I had Sela’s powers.
“Celine?” Enzo whispered. “So? Will you be my girlfriend?”
I smiled and nodded. “Yeah, of course I will.”
“I could kiss you right now.”
“But you won’t.” I said quickly. “We cannot reveal our relationship the same day we break up with them.”
“Yeah, I guess not. But we can’t keep it a secret forever either.”
“Mira wants me to get you guys back together.”
“What? Well what did you say?”
“I tried to say no.”
“Tried?” Enzo questioned.
“She said if I was a real friend I would help her. She’s really upset, Enzo.”
“I don’t know what to do with that. I don’t love her. I’ll just tell her that you tried and I’ll talk to her again.”
“Thank you.” I smiled.
“Anything for you.”
A twig snapped and we turned around quickly.
“Do you hear that, Pierce?” Enzo called.
“I do…everyone be on alert!”
“What if it’s the Hellions?” I held on to Enzo’s arms as we looked around us.
“We have that crazy f*****g dust you gave us. Hopefully we’ll be okay.”
The rustling of the bushes was becoming even louder. Whatever it was was getting closer.
“Can you use your powers?” Enzo asked.
“I have no idea.” I admitted.
Finally they emerged from the bushes, surrounding us. It was the Hellions. They were even scarier in person. What was worse was they weren’t alone.
Leading them was the Flaming Incubus that had hurt me in the forest near the Bloodrose Banes’ packhouse. A grin came across his face.
“Did you miss me beautiful?” He asked.
“Enzo…that’s him…the Flaming Incubus.”
“The name is Rekz, sweetheart. We’re gonna get to know each other real, well don’t you worry.”
“You won’t touch her.” Enzo stood in front of me.
“You’re lucky your brother told me to leave you alive, but the rest of you wolfies…” Flames appeared from Rekz’s hands. “You’ll burn.”
“Attack!” Pierce announced.
“Run, Celine.” Enzo said before transforming.
God I wish I could just use my wings so that I could fly to safety.
I wanted to go after Enzo to keep him safe, but this wasn’t like the battle at the fortress. Far too much was going on and I had to get to safety. I had to think of Sela and giving her powers to her.
I took off running as fast as I could, my bag bouncing on my back furiously. I glanced back to see Rekz chasing me. In the process he was throwing fire in all directions. I hoped no one was getting burnt.
“Come back, Celine!” He laughed.
This was a game to him. He liked the chase. He liked having prey.
Something flew over my shoulder and a line of fire appeared in front of me. Oh heavens!
I stopped so fast that I tumbled and nearly rolled into the fire.
“See you wanna do things the hard way.” He shook his head as he yanked me up.
His hands were still hot and his grip was burning my skin.
“Rekz, please!” I begged. “I’m not any help to Rafe, I swear.”
“Yes, you are sweetheart. More than you know. Now let’s go.”
I struggled and fought with him, but he was incredibly strong. I had to do something!
I remember the last time I was with him. I shot my hand forward and put it on his head.
Just like last time, I could see what happened before this.
Rafe sat in his chair looking furious.
“I need that girl!” He shouted.
“I understand Alpha Rafe, but she is well protected, as you saw last time. And her powers…”
“She doesn’t even know how to use them properly! How did she even do that?”
“Danger,” Rekz answered, entering the room. “She used some strange powers when I tried to take her. They only work when she’s in danger, that’s the only time she needs them.”
“That doesn’t help me. If we’re coming to get her, she will always feel like she’s in danger.” Rafe snapped. “I want her here.”
“I will get her for you, Alpha Rafe. But your friend…what does he say?”
“He needs her for other reasons. I don’t care about those.”
“Does he know that?” Rekz smirked. “He might not like it.”
“Then you keep your mouth shut and go get me Celine. And don’t kill Enzo. I will handle him when the time is right. I must be the one to kill him.”
“He won’t let her go.”
“Then you’ll have to be very creative with how you take her,” Rafe whispered. “I don’t care how many tries it takes…I want her.”
“Yes, Alpha Rafe.”
Rekz gasped and let me go. “Stay out of my head!” He screamed.
I think I felt the power welling up in me. I shot my hands out and he flew back. Yes the powers were working!
I lifted Rekz and then tossed him as far as the powers would allow me to. I knew it wouldn't kill him, but he’d definitely be hurt and knocked out. I knew he was bad, but I still couldn’t kill anyone. It wasn’t in my nature.
“Use the Forget Me Dust!” I yelled.
I conjured some up and started using my powers to shoot it towards the Hellions. I heard horrible screams of pain before they turned into dust. Those poor souls. I wished they could be saved. That we could reverse the curse instead of damning them to hell.
Using the powers was taking so much out of me. I fell to my knees as I heard the pounding of footsteps. Enzo transformed once again and knelt next to me.
“Hey, are you okay? Did he hurt you?” He asked with concern in his beautiful eyes.
“Only a little, I’m just winded.”
“Paz is hurt!” Irene screeched. “Please we have to do something.”
I forced myself up and ran over to them. Paz was on the ground with his head in Irene’s lap. He was burned badly from the neck down. Tears were streaming down Irene’s face.
“Please someone, do something! He’s dying!”
I dropped down. “Paz, look at me.”
He forced his eyes away from Irene. “I-it hurts.”
“I know, but just look at me.” I whispered as I put my hand on his torso.
Light emitted from my hand and slowly the burns started to disappear. It was taking everything out of me, but I couldn't let Paz die. He was Irene’s whole world. She would be devastated to lose someone she loved so much.
Gasps surrounded me as I pushed the energy out of my hand with everything I had. I didn’t stop until the last burn was gone. Paz gasped for air loudly.
A sharp pain shot through my head as I fell back. The last thing I saw was Enzo’s face before the darkness grabbed me.
