“See, I told you that I knew her.” Sander said as he shrugged out of their grasp.
“What um…what are you doing here?” I asked.
“Is that how you greet your old friend? No hug or kiss?”
I laughed as he hugged me tightly before kissing me on the lips.
“Um, who is this guy?” Enzo asked.
“This is Sander. He’s…where I’m from.”
I could see Enzo understood that he was an angel too.
“I didn’t realize they had men that were…where you’re from.”
“They’re not all as handsome as me, that’s for sure.” Sander grinned.
“Celine, I thought didn’t have any friends where you’re from,” Grey pointed out.
“Well Celine and I are a bit more than friends.”
“Yeah, we’re best friends!” I said quickly. “Um…I didn’t realize I would see Sander again, so that’s probably why I didn’t mention him.”
“So what is he doing here?” Enzo asked.
“Yeah, how did he even know where to find you?” Grey questioned.
“Well he’s a mystic like me. Mystics can find each other very easily.” I answered.
“So where has he been all this time?”
“Um, I think Sander has traveled very far to get here. Pierce, may he have a room to stay in for his visit?”
“Of course Celine. I can show him a room right now.”
“That would be grand,” Sander grinned. “I’ll just clean up a bit and then you’ll come to me, right Celine?”
“Of course Sander.” I forced a smile.
“Celine, who the hell is that?” Enzo asked.
“An old friend, like I said.”
“Can I talk to you privately?”
I nodded and gave Grey and apologetic look as Enzo pulled me away.
“Okay, so who is he really?”
“He’s an angel like me. Um…remember when I told you about the guy I kissed…”
“That’s him?” Enzo asked incredulously. “You sure buried the lead with that! That guy is really good looking.”
“Everyone is where I’m from.”
“So there’s more of him up in the sky? What is he even doing here?”
“Well, when I was leaving I had told him he should come visit me, but I didn’t actually think he would. Sander is very stuck up and thinks Earth is gross.” I informed him.
“And you like him?”
“He has other qualities. Though I do have to admit my feelings for him have dwindled since being here and being around you.”
“Me?” Enzo smiled.
“Um, I mean you know being around you and the other Bloodrose Banes. Anyways, I really should go talk to him and see what’s going on. I need him not to blow my cover.”
“Yeah, best if you handle that quickly.” He nodded. “But I’d still like to talk to you later.”
“Fine, Enzo.”
I walked into the fortress.
“Wait, Celine!” Grey called. “Are you dating that guy?”
“Not really, no. We just have a complicated history together, but that doesn’t mean anything. We haven’t seen each other in two months.”
“So you’re not with him and you don’t want to be?”
“Exactly. We’re just friends is all. Sander is a really great person. He’s an angel.”
I kissed Grey’s cheek before hurrying off.
“Hey, Celine!”
Why the heaven did everyone have to talk to me?!
“Yes, Mira?”
“That guy was totally hot! How do you get all these handsome guys interested in you?”
“I don’t. I mean it’s just Grey.” I said.
“There’s also En-um other people that like you. Um, Luc and now this random hot guy.”
“I don’t know, Mira. I promise no one was interested in me for decades, this is all very new.”
“You’re so funny.” She laughed.
“Uh, I think I should go check on my friend. I’ll catch up with you later.”
“Did you hear Enzo said that he loved me?”
“Yes, I did. I was very happy to hear that.”
“Can you believe it? Enzo actually loves me! I’m his mate, we’re going to get married and all of that. How incredible is it?”
Could she brag anymore?
“It’s wonderful, Mira, really. I’m glad I could help out.” I forced a smile. “I’ll talk to you later.”
I finally was able to actually make my way to Sander’s room.
I took a deep breath before knocking on the door.
“Come in,” Sander called.
I opened the door as he exited the bathroom. Steam surrounded his shirtless figure. I was in awe of his silver wings.
“You’re already on silver wings?” I gasped.
“I sure am. That’s why I’m here.”
“What do you mean?”
“The Archangels sent me to check on you. They thought you seemed kind of distressed when you saw them today.” He informed me. “So they thought you would need some friendly help.”
“Are you actually here to be friendly?” I asked.
“Of course I am Celine. I’ve missed you desperately. I’m here to help.”
“Good. What do you know about The Seraphic Paragon?”
“A decent amount. A young woman with extraordinary powers. She’s the sworn enemy of The Depraved Fiend. Only she stands in the way of him taking over the world.” He replied.
“Yes, exactly. I know who she is!” I whispered.
“How?”
“She projected her powers onto me and now when I dream I can see into her mind. I know exactly what is going on with her because of our connection. Pierce already sent trackers to find the castle. In mere days, we should know exactly where she is and be able to give her her powers back!”
“Oh wow, you’ve got a lot more going on than making the little wolfie fall in love.” Sander chuckled. “But good for you, Celine. I always knew you were destined for greatness.”
“You did not.” I smiled slightly.
“Maybe I wanted you to think that.” Sander walked up to me. “But I’ve always known that you were special.”
Sander kissed me, but I pulled away.
“What’s wrong Celine?”
“I’m just worried about getting Enzo to actually fall in love, you know?” I sighed.
“You have a month. You can do it right?” He asked. “I mean he already loves the wolf girl.”
“Yes, but apparently there’s a big difference between loving someone and being in love with them.”
“You’ll figure it out, Celine. I mean you helped that klepto, you can do anything.” Sander smiled.
“Thanks,” I smiled back. “Now, remember, they can’t know that you’re an angel, Sander. Only Enzo knows about me.”
“I got it…so what am I?”
“Just a mystic, I guess. I had been very vague about where I came from, so I’m sure it will be fine.”
“Good to know. This will be fun. These Earth creatures are so stupid and easy to fool.”
“They’re not stupid, Sander…they’re my friends.” I said.
“Really?”
“Yes! Enzo and I have gotten very close and Grey has saved my life. Mira has been very nice to me and Irene and Paz are the best.”
“You’ve really grown to care for these wolves,” Sander shook his head. “Celine, you realize you can’t stay here, right? You shouldn’t be getting attached to these people.” Sander frowned.
“I-I’m not. I’m just saying Earth creatures are much different than I ever thought they were.”
“There’s a reason we stopped this whole angel on Earth thing, you know? It was because of things like this. Attachments and confusion. It’s better that we stay separated.”
“I know that. This has just been a great experience, I guess.”
“And it’ll be even better when it’s over, my love. Now introduce me to your little wolves, I’m so curious about them. Do they fetch?”
“No, Sander, they don’t.”
--
“So you and Celine are from the same place. Where is that again?” Grey questioned.
“Very far away, you probably have never heard of it.” I smiled.
“I could have.”
“It’s a very small place, filled with a lot of whimsy.” Sander grinned. “Makes you feel like you can fly.”
Grey kind of glared at him in confusion. “Okay. So why have you decided to come to Celine now?”
“I missed her. I mean two months without this face was killing me. I told myself today was the day I would go to her and I’m so glad to see her. Though she looks a little different.”
“That was Alpha Enzo. He thought I needed a makeover.” I laughed.
“Yeah, I was wrong about that. Celine was beautiful the moment she stepped foot here.” Enzo smiled at me.
“I thought I looked like a hooker.” I teased.
“But a beautiful one.”
Sander looked between us. “So um, Alpha Enzo, I hear Celine has been very helpful to you.”
“She has. She’s one of my closest friends and confidants. She’s very important to me.” Mira cleared her throat. “To us. All of us. She’s a Bloodrose Bane.”
“It’s a true honor.” I grinned.
“So, Sander, you said earlier you and Celine were closer than friends. Are you siblings or something?” Grey asked.
“No, I’m her boyfriend.” Sander answered.
“No, I am.”
Oh heavens.
