CHAPTER 11

“Hi Aunt Mona! Happy Birthday!” She greeted to Marco’s Mom as soon as she meet Aunt Mona, who is now wearing a wide smile, that mirrored to much happiness in it.

“For you.” She said, handing her birthday present to Aunt Mona.

“Oh Kealan honey, thank you!” Aunt Mona delightfully and pulled her into a tight hug she took her present. “ By the way, I miss you!”

“I miss you too, Aunt Mona. Sorry I wouldn’t able to visit you like I promised last time.” She said shyly.

“It’s okay, I understand. What important is, you were able to attend my birthday.” Aunt Mona said.

“Let’s go inside.” Aunt Mona invited.

Kealan nodded with a smile. Aunt Mona together with Marco escorted her at the backyard, where the party for 45th birthday of Aunt Mona is being held.

“I’m glad that my son is able to bring you here.” Aunt Mona said as they reach the halfway to the backyard.

“Yeah, thanks to Marco. He actually reminded me about it today because I lost the track of days, sorry.” She guiltily replied as she took a glance to Marco and to Aunt Mona.

Aunt Mona understandingly nod, giving her a smile, “It’s okay.”

Kealan, smile back to Aunt Mona, before she continue being escorted by the two. She also gave her birthday present to Aunt Mona on their way.

The birthday party setting is not grandiose, instead in was a simple but beautiful with a motif of lavender that she knows Aunt Mona’s favorite color and white.

The visitors is not many, but she can say that they are in a range of upper and middle class, but even so, their outfit made her conscious about her outfit, as its not appropriate to the party, because the visitors are in formal outfit, while she is just wearing a casual outfit.

“Aunt Mona.” She called to Aunt Mona’s attention as soon as they enter the venue.

Aunt Mona immediately look at her with a sweet smile, “Yes, honey?”

“Ahm…”

“M-My outfit is not appropriate for your party.” She said about her sudden concern.

Aunt Mona smile and took a glance at Marco who is just behind them.

“Don’t worry, I made a dress for you for this event.” Aunt Mona said that made her surprise.

“Your my special guest, and I want you to enjoy the party.” Aunt Mona added.

“Thank you Aunt Mona.” She gratefully said.

Aunt Mona was about to say something when a girl who seems in her mid twenties called Aunt Mona’s attention, and told Aunt Mona that everything is set. Aunt Mona nod to the girl before put her attention to me and Marco.

“Son, I will leave Kealan for you now. The party is about to start, assist her okay?” Aunt Mona said to Marco.

“Don’t worry Mom, I will take care of Kealan.” Marco replied to his Mom.

Aunt Mona bid her goodbye to her after to go to the stage, as she being called by the MC. Kealan just nod and smile, and watch Aunt Mona as she walks towards the stage that was set for the occasion. She also clapped like the other visitors as Aunt Mona climb on the stage as she being introduce.

Her attention was just caught when Marco poke her.

“Let’s go?” Marco asked and she nod.

Marco led her to the guest room, with two maids with them, to help her change, into a dress that Aunt Mona personally maid.

Aunt Mona is a fashion designer and eversince she and Marco is little, she always like to create them outfits.

Reminded by her dresses that Aunt Mona gave to her, the loan sharks made her left those together with their house, and thinking about that, made her guilty that she don’t know how to say it to either Marco and Aunt Mona.

“Hey Keal! Are you done? Mom is already looking for you.” Marco shouted from the outside of the room.

“Just a second!” She replied while putting her gold strap flat sandals that, Aunt Mona also provide with the outfit to be paired with.

“Can I did you already dressed? I’m coming in.” Marco said again.

“Okay.” She replied.

The door opened after revealing Marco who is now also dressed formal.

“Nice! Mom’s outfit really suits you well. By the way you look beautiful.” Marco complimented.

Kealan snort, and said, “I know.” Making Marco laugh and she followed, because of her boasting herself, though she was just kidding.

“Are you done? Mom has been texting me, looking for you.” Marco informed after his phone beep exactly when their laughter died a bit.

“Yep.” She replied as soon as she finish tying the last strap of her sandals.

“Let’s go.” Marco said as she stood up offering her his arm, that she immediately cling into.

“Okay.” She said, before Marco started to escort her to the party.

Everyone is having a good time. Kealan is now on the corner table where the there is not too much noise and visitor.

She is now watching Aunt Mona, as she interact with her visitors with glee. Marco left her for a while, to pick up his cousin Cara, that’s why she is now alone, but even so, she just enjoy and feel contented seeing everyone having a good time, like they don’t have any problems to deal with.

She was about to call the waiter serving the drinks, when her phone that rang, and saw that the call is coming from the unknown number and eithout a thought she just take the call.

“Hello?” She said answering the call.

“Hello! Good evening, this from the police department. Is this Miss Kealan Valle?” The baritone voice said from the other line.

Kealan stood up from her seat and her heart beats fast all of a sudden upon hearing who is the caller.

“Speaking.” She answered.

“Miss Valle, I want to inform you that we had found the footage of the accident that cause your parents death.” The officer from the other line inform.

A thud of hope to know what really happened the night of the accident rose on her chest.

“Miss Valle?” The officer said again checking if Kealan is still haven’t hang up as she became lost of words for a while.

“Y-Yes?” She stutter.

“I am just informing you that we got the footage of your parents accident.” The officer repeated.

“C-Can I see it o-officer? I-I just want to know what happened that night.” She asked stuttering, as her adrenaline is raising and her eyes is beginning to water.

“Yes that’s why we are informing you about this. Just come here to the precint tomorrow morning, Miss Valle.” The officer answered.

“Thank you officer.” She gratefully said.

“Your welcome, Miss Valle.” The officer replied.

The call ended but Kealan is in dazed, and that’s is what Marco and Cara saw.

“Hey Keal, is there anything wrong?” That is Cara asking with full of concern.

Kealan came back from her reverie because of that, and when she look up, she saw Cara and Marco looking at her with full of concern.

“Cara, you’re here.” She said giving Cara a smile, and Cara nodded with a smile.

“What happened?” Marco interrupt after.

“Nothing, Its just that… I received a call from the police telling me that they got the footage of my parents accident, and I come tomorrow to see it” She replied.

“Really?! Then that’s a good thing right?” Marco replied with a wide smile.

“I don’t know, I hope.” She replied.

Marco reach his hand and place it to Kealan’s head, as his way of comforting her, and smile.

“Don’t think, too much okay? Me and Mom would accompany you tomorrow.” Marco said and plastered a comforting smile.

“Thank you, your really the best of the best friend in the whole wide world.” She said, smiling making Marco laugh and Cara, chuckle.

“Of course!” Marco boastful replied, making her shake her head while chuckling.

I don’t know what will I be able to find out tomorrow, but I hope It will help me accept everything about my parents death.
