CHAPTER 4 THE PROPHECY HAS STARTED

EVEY'S POV

It can't be, is just can't be. A mate? Is impossible! I can't accept it. My mate was Shay, and I will never take another!

"He is ours! If you reject him, we will not fulfill our purpose, and you will kill us!" My wolf suddenly speaks. I have been running aimlessly since I shifted. The transformation was weird, I didn't feel pain despite it being years from my last shift, but I felt stronger than ever, but she still didn't talk to me until now.

"Look who finally decided to join me. Don't come here trying to give me advice after leaving me for four years. You left me with all the pain from the loss of our mate, and I am still struggling to survive every day." I have so much resentment and anger towards her, I don't even care what she has to say.

"After our mate died, I nearly died too, I decided to stay away to shield you from the pain. It would've been worse if I hadn't. You would've died!" Her comment only fuels my anger. If death was an option, I wanted it.

"You should've let me die. I don't have a purpose without Shay. I have nothing to offer to this new mate, he is better without me."

"We need him. We have a purpose to fulfill. The Moon Goddess is counting on us. Have you looked down? Have you seen that we look different?" She says, forcing me to look down. I gasp when I see my fur. My paws are white! I don't know how it happened?

"What does this mean?" I am afraid of the answer, All my life, I have believed that I'm cursed, and she is about to confirm my biggest fear.

"We are the White wolf. The prophecy has started. We are the future, but we need our mate." My world just crumbled with her words. She called it a prophecy, and I call it a curse.

"I don't want this! I don't want a mate, and I don't want to be the one everyone fears. I can't be it!" I can't believe this, I can't accept it!

"Evey! Please come back! We are all so worried. Your mate is not going to leave until he sees you and talks to you. He seems like a good man. Please come back!" My cousin Lily mindlinks me. I was surprised to hear her voice in my head because without my wolf, it was impossible.

"I am not interested, I don't want a mate, I don't want to be a Luna. He has a strong aura. I can't be mated to someone so powerful." My mate looks strong, powerful with the most intense blue eyes I have ever seen. He is taller than Shay. He looks like a viking, with his blonde hair tied in a man bun, short from the sides and longer from the top, but not too long, just the perfect length. I couldn't stop staring at the handsome specimen that was scanning me, but then he saw my mark, and I saw the rage in his eyes. His wolf was about to come out, that's when I saw his strong aura, I was scared for a moment and suddenly I was shifting and running away through the window.

"Oh, Evey, there is already a Luna. You don't have to worry about that. Please come back and talk to your mate." Figures, the Moon Goddess would gift him with more than one mate.

'I don't think I can handle sharing my mate, Lily. Please tell him to leave.I don't think I will survive if I reject him right now." I don't know if I can survive a rejection right now. My wolf is upset to find out our mate has a Luna. She definitely doesn't like sharing.

"I will do no such thing. He doesn't have a mate, he is not the Alpha, he is the Beta of White Creek pack. Seriously, Sis, he looks like a good guy. I bet he went looking for you, so you might as well come back." This time, she is almost commanding me. My wolf is at peace when she hears that he doesn't have a mate, but I don't like his pack, they are known to be murderers with no compassion, both the Beta and the Alpha are cruel with anyone who crosses their land. The Beta once killed a woman and her daughter because they went into their land by accident.

"That pack is trouble, I don't want anything to do with them. Lily, please, you have to help me!" The law says I have to go with him or reject him. I don't know which one of my options will give me less pain.

"Everything that is said about them is a lie. Evey, they are our allies now. If you hurt them in any way, you could be sending this pack to a hole deeper than we are in right now. We depend on this business deal to thrive again." I feel as if the future of my pack depends on my next move, and I would never do anything to hurt them. I have to face him, but first, I have to do something.

"I'll be there soon. I will talk to him. I'll do it for my pack." Is all I say and cut the mindlink. I will see my mate, but I don't want to hear Lily trying to influence me anymore.

"I want my mate. Nobody will understand this situation better than him, plus only with him our powers will get stronger. His wolf has been trying to connect with me, but you are resisting. " My wolf scolds me.

"He might not want us when he finds out that he will be cursed with us as his mate." Shay gave his life for me, now I'm convinced that the last attack was an attempt at me. Somehow, Blue Moon Pack knew what I was, and they were trying to stop me. My mate dying was an added bonus.

"You have to give him the benefit of the doubt." She retorts, and maybe, just maybe, she might be right.

I finally made it to the place where I am most comfortable. I have been coming here for the past 4 years. I go all the way across the cemetery, paying my respects to all the fallen that gave their life for the safety of our pack.

He is resting with the high ranks, amongst several other war heroes who at some point fought for us.

Someone left a red rose on his grave, I often wonder who else besides his parents and me come to visit, His mom and dad only come on the anniversary of his death and on his birthday, I come almost every day and there is always a red rose here, but I guess I'll never know.

"Hi, I'm sorry I wasn't here early. It was Lily's baby shower, and you know how she gets. I barely had time to go to the shop, but here I am." I talk to my mate's grave, sitting next to it like I do every time I come.

"I am still trying to go on without you here, but I can't. I don't understand why I'm still here, or at least I didn't up until a few hours ago. I don't know how to tell you this. It is kind of hard. First, you need to know that I finally shifted. My traitor wolf decided to show up today after meeting..." I hesitate a little, It feels like I am about to confess that I cheated. What would he say if he was in front of me? Would he hate me?

"Oh, my love, I met my second chance mate!" I tell him fast as if waiting for an answer, but all I get in return is a soft breeze. I don't know what I was expecting, he is dead and I will never see him again, now, my life feels like a love triangle, because I could never leave Shay.
