Chapter 3 Welcome Home

962 Words
Just as the truck was about to crash into them, a man in black, looking like a bodyguard, suddenly rushed over and pulled Natalie aside. "Your Highness, are you alright?" Natalie shook her head. In a flash, five more bodyguards in black appeared, surrounding Lucy. "What... what are you trying to do?" Natalie walked up to Lucy and slapped her hard across the face. Lucy stared at her in disbelief. "You dare hit me?!" "Slap—" Natalie slapped her again, this time even harder. "Cut the act, it's disgusting! This is your lesson. Don't ever let me see you again!" "You b***h! Ah—!" Lucy tried to lunge at Natalie, but a bodyguard shoved her to the ground. With a screech, a Cadillac armored car pulled over, and one of the bodyguards respectfully opened the door for Natalie. "Your Highness, your family is waiting for you." Natalie lifted her skirt and got into the luxury car without even looking at the disheveled Lucy, leaving her behind. The Cadillac took Natalie to the capital's airport, where a private plane was ready to fly her straight to the neighboring country of Belvaria. As soon as she stepped off the plane at Belvaria's airport, she was swept into a warm embrace. "Welcome home, my Natalie." Tears fell onto Robert's shirt as Natalie whispered, "Robert, I've missed you so much." Robert Fox had short golden hair. He was a bit shorter than Edward, but very handsome. He took Natalie's hand. "Let's go home." "Okay." A high-end sedan drove them straight into the Belvarian palace, where numerous palace servants greeted Robert along the way: "Prince, Your Highness." "Good afternoon, Your Highness." Natalie lowered her head, her breath becoming more rapid. Robert squeezed her hand. "Don't worry, everyone's waiting for you at home." But hearing those words only made Natalie feel more uneasy. Finally, they reached the King and Queen's chambers. The royal couple, King Reginald Fox and Queen Marianna, were sipping tea in their chambers. When they saw Robert and Natalie enter, they snorted without even lifting their heads. Robert gently pushed Natalie in front of them and said with a smile, "Mom, Dad, I've brought my sister home." King Reginald, 50 years old, looked both imposing and handsome. He scoffed at Natalie, "What are you doing here? Weren't you too ashamed to acknowledge us?" Tears streamed down Natalie's face as she threw herself onto Reginald's lap, crying, "Mom, Dad, I'm so sorry. I was wrong." "What's this? Get up!" At the sound of "Mom, Dad," Queen Marianna's heart softened, and she hurried to help Natalie up. But Natalie refused, "I insisted on marrying a man who didn't love me. I thought I could warm his heart, but I was wrong. I was so wrong." Two years ago, Robert found her and told her the truth: she was the princess of Belvaria. But because of the tense relations between the two countries at the time, and to protect Edward's reputation, she had rejected her parents' offer to bring her home. Now, looking back, that was a huge mistake. Reginald sighed deeply. "Silly girl." He helped Natalie up and patted her back comfortingly. "You've been wronged, why didn't you tell us sooner?" Natalie cried in her father's arms, feeling a sense of security she'd never known before. "Dad, I was wrong. Will you forgive me?" "I've already forgiven you!" Robert chimed in. "Before, Dad kept urging me to visit you. He just wanted to know if you were okay." "Shut up, you!" Reginald pretended to slap him. Robert skillfully dodged. "Now it's all good. Our family of four is back together." "Not four, five." Natalie suddenly spoke up. "What do you mean?" Queen Marianna looked at her curiously. Natalie placed a hand on her belly, her face breaking into a happy smile. "Mom, Dad, I'm pregnant. I want to raise this child on my own." Reginald and Marianna exchanged shocked glances. Marianna asked, "Does Edward know about this?" A shadow crossed Natalie's face, and she shook her head. "I see." Reginald patted Natalie's shoulder. "Tell the chief of the guards, from now on, I'll help Natalie find a new husband. Someone a thousand times better than Edward!" At that very moment, Edward was finishing up a bilateral trade meeting in Arlandia. It was almost 8 PM when he stepped out of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He bent down to get into his presidential car, massaging his temples, his head still aching from the hangover. Yesterday had been his mother Susan's birthday, and Edward had drunk quite a bit. Since it was so late, he decided to stay overnight at his mother’s house. Returning to his bedroom, he collapsed onto the bed and fell asleep immediately. Unexpectedly, he woke in the middle of the night to find Natalie there. Thinking about the look in Natalie’s eyes before she left, Edward felt a wave of inexplicable frustration. The presidential car rolled smoothly down the road. The secretary, Jonathan, hesitated for a moment before speaking. "Mr. President, I think you should see today's breaking news." Edward clicked the news link Jonathan sent him: "Breaking News! Belvarian Prince Spotted with New Lover! The two are spotted looking affectionate, with rumors swirling about an upcoming engagement!" It was a picture of Natalie returning to Belvaria and leaving the airport with Robert, accidentally snapped by a paparazzo. In the photo, Natalie and Robert were holding hands, embracing passionately, gazing into each other's eyes. After Natalie married Edward, she rarely appeared in public, so the paparazzi hadn't recognized her as Arlandia's First Lady. If they had, this photo would've caused an uproar. Edward stared intently at the man in the photo, his eyes burning with intensity. "Robert, it’s him again—Robert!"
