Chapter 5: The new Assistant

Xander junior arrived home at the Gallgher Mansion and sat down for dinner with his grandfather. Thankfully, his mother was out of town for an important meeting.

Senior Gallgher as usual was cheerful and very happy to see both his grandsons home. He had been waiting for Xander in particular so he could make fun of him as he had heard about the incident with Estella.

"So Xander..." Senior Xander started "I heard you got into an accident yesterday and you got slapped by a woman" Senior Xander wasn't happy at first when Andrew told him about it but after receiving the phone call from Sofia, he could only conclude that it was destiny. He chuckled lightly as a smile spread across hid face. If only his grandson knew that Estella was the woman he had been looking for all his life. He couldn't tell Xander junior as he wanted him to figure it out by himself.

Xander glared at Andrew as the latter focused on eating to avoid eye contact with the former. He should have known Andrew would be able to keep his big mouth shut and he would ensure to teach him a lesson later. "Yes Grandfather but it's nothing. I will settle the scores with her her".

At that moment Andrew coughed and said "you seemed to enjoy that slap;After so many years, someone challenged The great Xander Junior".

Andrew couldn't help but tease Xander. After all, it's not everyday someone challenged Xander Gallgher. He grinned at Xander glared at him. He understood and went back to eating.

Xander was content when Andrew stopped talking and said "Grandfather, Mom has been setting me up on blind dates but not Andrew. I think it would be nice if you find a nice girl for him to settle down with. He is my brother after all and I cannot get married if he doesn't".

His lifeless eye fell on Andrew and the his grandfather as a big mischievous smile spread across his face as he saw the life drain out of Andrew's face.

Mission accomplished.

Andrew almost choked on his food and looked at the devil sitting next to him wondering what he had done to get a wicked brother like Xander.

Andrew had grown up with Xander. He had been living in their house since he was eight. His parents were shareholders in Senior Xander's company. When his parents died, Senior Xander took him in and raised him alongside Xander.

"So grandfather, I heard you already hired a personal assistant for Xander". Andrew grinned and Xander could tell something was wrong. Looking at his grandfather and Andrew's face, he was sure they were planning something devious as they often plotted against him.

"Oh yes and I'm sure you would like your new assistant very much" said Senior Xander knowing his grandson wasn't going to like it at all but very soon, he would understand why he made Estella his personal assistant.

Andrew inwardly squealed 'you are about to go for the ride of a lifetime Xander'.

Xander decided not to pursue the matter any further as his grandfather had already made the decision.

After their last encounter, Estella and her mother didn't speak to each other until the morning she was to resume her new job. Mrs Sofia instructed the maid to wake Estella up to get ready. Estella has no choice but to follow her mother's decision. She wasn't happy about it but she had to prove to her mother that she was responsible and that she could take over the company.

It took her a while to get ready because she had trouble deciding on what to wear since she had so many outfits. She finally picked a business formal, v-neck, knee length black dress. She decided to tie her hair into a ponytail. She looked at herself in the mirror and she was satisfied with her look.

She proceeded to have breakfast with her mom who was also ready for work.

She greeted her mother as she sat down for breakfast. The maid served Estella and proceeded back into the kitchen.

Mrs Sofia didn't like her daughter being mad at her and decided to speak to Estella" Listen Estella, I know you are not happy about this but it is what is best for you. You aren't going to work there forever honey just until you can prove to me and to yourself that you are ready to lead".

Estella didn't say anything

"Are you still mad at me" asked Mrs Sofia

Estella looked at her mother with a smirk on her face and said "I'll stop being mad on one condition",

"Which is? " Mrs Jenner knew that face and she knew she wasn't going to like Estella's condition.

"I get to drive myself to work everyday" Estella stated.

"No way" Mrs Jenner disagreed "who knows what you'll... "

"You said you wanted me to see the real world didn't you?" Estella asked her mother. Getting no response from her mother she continue "if you don't stop spoiling me, how am I ever going to be responsible and independent" asked Estella satisfied with her answer.

"I have agreed to work in that company the least you can do is to agree to my condition".

Mrs Jenner didn't want to agree but Estella has cornered her into a tight spot. Her daughter was really smart "Alright I agree to your condition".

"Yes!!!" Estella exclaimed.

"But don't forget to sign this contract and submit it to your boss".

"Alright mom"

Mrs Jenner couldn't help but smile as she had a wonderful daughter.

"Well looks like someone reported to the office early today" said Andrew as he barged into Xander's office. "Are you really that excited to meet your new Assistant?" Andrew teased. "So has your assistant arrived" He asked.

Xander looked up from his files and turned to Andrew and asked "why are you so interested in my new assistant?" "What are you up to?".

Andrew pursed his lips together trying hard to control his laughter "you'll know soon".

Xander knew he wasn't going to get anything out of Andrew. Looks like he would have to wait till his new assistant showed up. "Have you found out about that woman" he asked"

"Which woman" asked Andrew pretending not to remember.

"You know who I am talking about Andrew. Now stop pretending and answer the question" Xander answered coldly. He was starting to lose his patience.

"Well... "Andrew hanged his words and hesitation crossed his face.

"Go on" Xander frowned

"Well, I have work to do and I'll see you later". With that, Andrew ran out of Xander's office.

"That's brat" grunted Xander

Estella arrived at the Gallgher corporation. It was a twenty storey building towering in front of her. She was nervous. She inhaled a lot of air and tried her best to calm down. She exhaled loudly before going out of her car and stepping into the building. The walls of the building were painted white and it was stunning. She proceeded to the receptionist who was on a telephone call. She waited for her to end the call.

The receptionist ended the call and greeted Estella " Good morning ma'am, how can I help you?"

"Good morning, I have been offered a job as the CEO'S personal assistant" Estella answered.

The receptionist was surprised. The CEO had never had a woman as his personal assistant and he had never gotten this close to a woman as he always refused to get close to them and suddenly this woman was going to be working with him and get to be close to him. She was jealous and she was one of those women who had been trying to get Xander's attention.

Estella squinted her eyes and clenched her teeth seeing the receptionist look at her from head to toe scrutinizing her but she decided to ignore it as she didn't want to create a scene on her first day.

The receptionist looked at her contemptuously and snorted "The CEO's office is on the 20th floor. Use the private elevator to get there. Oh, you're already late as the CEO is already in his office". She added with a grin.

"Well that's none of your business is it?"

Estella uttered and left

"How dare she?" The receptionist muttered. " We'll see if her boss doesn't care" she smirked and continued her work.

Estella proceeded to the elevator and pressed the twentieth floor. "Oh s**t I'm late on my first day. Great"

As soon as the elevator stopped, Estella stepped out and she was greeted by the receptionist on that floor and unlike the previous one, this one was pleasant.

"Good morning, you must be Miss Estella Jenner".

"Yes I am" Estella answered with her smile

"I'm Kenzie, the CEO's receptionist. Please follow me. CEO Gallgher has been expecting you and he doesn't look to happy to me so be careful ma'am". Kenzie advised as she led the way to the CEO's office.

Estella's body became numb and nervousness crept onto every single cell of her body. Her brain stopped functioning and she couldn't speak a word as she followed the receptionist. She was thinking of what would happen if she lost her job on her first day.

"Please be mindful of the boss. He's isn't very fond of women" said Kenzie as they headed to Xander's office. Estella simply nodded

The receptionist was introducing her to the other workers but Estella wasn't paying attention. She jolted back to reality when Kenzie touched her and said "This is the CEO'S office.

With that, Kenzie turned back and headed back to her desk. Estella knocked on the door and entered the office. As she entered, she was blown away from the exquisite view of the office. His office was very big and must have occupied a large portion of the twentieth floor. One of walls was covered with certificates and trophies that he had won.

'Wow', Estella thought to herself. She looked around and saw a man looking outside the window with his back turned to her. She walked closer and stopped in front of his desk.

"Excuse me sir, I was directed here by your receptionist. I'm your new assistant sir. She waited in vain for an answer 'Maybe he did not hear me' She said to herself.

Xander got startled from his somber state when he heard a knock on his door. He heard the approaching footsteps of a woman but didn't turn around. He heard her tell that she was his personal assistant. He didn't say anything as something was running through his head 'Why is my new assistant a woman and why does she sound familiar' he asked himself

He slowly turned around to look at the woman standing in his office. Estella gasped when she saw Xander but kept her composure.

"You!!!" They both asked at the same time each glaring at the other.
