Sebastian Ryan's POV
"My King, what other orders do you have?" Louis followed me into the office. He closed the door, walked to me, and asked respectfully.
"Send someone to check Charlotte's past."
"Yes. What else?"
"There's a blonde man with a beard among the men she's dated; find that man and kill him. Do it sharp and leave no trace."
"OK."
Louis shot me a curious look. He must be full of doubts. But he would never dare to ask if I didn't tell him.
"What's going on with Alpha Morgan recently?" I asked.
"The latest news is that his mate Luna Katherine passed away due to illness a week ago. Alpha Asher, Luna Katherine's brother asked to attend the funeral but was refused. Alpha Asher broke off diplomatic relations with Alpha Morgan in anger," Louis reported.
"Isn't Luna Katherine Charlotte's mother? Luna Katherine died a week ago, and I met Charlotte a week ago. Is this a coincidence?" I thought for a while and continued, "Send a few men to the Crescent Moon Tribe to secretly investigate the death of Luna Katherine."
"Yes," Louis said, "I think we should ask Charlotte about this. She should know something."
"You don't need to remind me," I said impatiently.
"What are you going to do with her? I don't understand why you locked her up." He cleared his throat and asked. I admire his braveness.
"It's none of your business." I gave him a sharp look and warned him that he had crossed a line.
"Sorry, Sebastian. I am talking to you about this matter as a friend now. You should cherish the mate the Moon goddess has arranged for you. We need a Luna Queen."
"She is not worthy. If there must be a Luna Queen, I would rather pick a woman with noble blood, talents, virtues, and strength from all the tribes to take on this role.
"No, I don't agree. I have always believed that Luna's arrangement is always the best. In some ways, I am jealous of you. Luna gave you a second chance, unlike me. I am 29 years old and still I haven’t met my mate yet. You haven’t experienced the pain of not being able to find your mate.” Lewis said with a wry smile.
"Don't try to convince me," I said with a poker face.
"Sorry. If there is nothing else, please allow me to leave first."
Seeing how determined I was, Louis stopped asking for trouble. He turned around and walked out of the office.
I walked over to the window and leaned over the edge, lighting a cigarette and thinking quietly.
My wolf and I couldn't agree on anything regarding Charlotte.
I thought about rejecting her but rejecting a mate that I have marked requires a high price. I need to cut my shoulder with a silver knife on a full moon night and make an agreement with the moon goddess. If I did that, both my wolf and I would be in endless pain, Tyler would be in a near-death state, and I couldn't do that. I thought about killing her, but Tyler stopped me, saying that killing our mate would bring about the wrath of the moon goddess. Bringing her back to please my wolf was the biggest concession I could make.
But she... betrayed me. I can't forgive her no matter what. I will have her be punished as she deserves!
I took out a photograph from a drawer. The woman in the picture, with her enchanting beauty, was my late queen, Sophie. She was Beta Louis's sister, my childhood friend, and my lifelong love. She was strong, brave, decisive, kind-hearted. We loved each other deeply. However, a strange illness had taken her life five years ago. Since then, I haven't felt any attraction to another woman.
Compared to Sophie, Charlotte was worlds apart.
Thinking about it, my nose got sore. Whenever I felt lost amid power and desire, I would visit her grave, embracing her tombstone, imagining that I was holding her and telling her all the things I couldn't tell anyone else.
As I immersed myself in thoughts, there came a knock at the door. I recognized the scent of my witch, Olivia.
I carefully put Sophie's picture back in the drawer and close it before calling out to the door, "Come in."
"Alpha King, I'm relieved you're finally back. I've been worried about you all night," Olivia walked in, giving me a bow and speaking with excitement.
Olivia was five years older than me and more like an elder sister. She had accompanied me throughout my childhood after my mother passed away during childbirth, and my father was busy with his duties and unable to care for me.
"I'm sorry to have worried you," I walked up to her, kissed her on the cheek as a greeting, and reassured her with a smile.
"I've warned you many times, that the potion shouldn't be overdosed. Luckily, you returned safely. What if something happened to you?" She frowned, reproaching me sternly.
"All right, all right, you can lock the potion away in a box and keep me away from it," I joked.
"Don't joke about this. Even if I buried the potion deep underground, you could find it if you wanted to. You need to be determined, suppress your desires," she shook her head helplessly.
"Okay, I'll do. I promise you," I told her earnestly. "By the way, is there something you need to discuss this time?"
"Yes, I heard that you've brought Charlotte Moore back," her tone turned serious.
Ah! As expected, she came here for Charlotte's matter. Just the thought of that woman gave me a headache. I wasn't in the mood to discuss her with Olivia right now.
"Ah! Yes, nothing can escape your notice," I pretended to be lighthearted.
"Where is she now?" she inquired.
"I've arranged her in the attic," I answered briefly.
"How do you plan to deal with her? Would you kill her?" she whispered near my ear.
